Candy Man

Now before anyone hits me and tells me I am a moron... I am just looking for the pro's and con's of Mike O from you guys. If we could get him cheap, would he be a decent move due to his ability to block shots (when he actually tries) and grabs boards (effort needed obviously). I have never been high on him but if cheap, he could provide assistance. What you think

No thanks. Give me instead a young big with some talent and even more potential, instead of a guy who never reached expectations and likely never will.

I would think one of the young'uns in camp might be able to do the same things....

No thanks.

Were running our of options, and while I think even his good stats mean next to nothing -- he never has had an impact as a defender for instance, him showing up wouldn;t shock me at this point. Still would ratehr have Cato jsut as a cheaper guy who knows his role.

Well, he'd have to play with the Kings, not against them. Seeing as most of his grand momemts of achievement have come from playing against the Kings burly frontline, I don't think that would work.

As more of a bottom choice for back-up C? Sure. Kandi's an okay back-up center who could be had for pretty cheap. He's big, a good rebounder, and can block shots.

But there are definitely a bunch of others ahead of him who'd be better.

Jerome James and his 20+ million dollar contract and bag of garbage he brings with him, apparently too (didn't see any smilies). :D

I'm not averse to the idea, he's long and fills up the space. We've all seen Kandi have some monsterous games against us. The guy has some talent, his problem seems to be motivational, something that can be remedied in the right environment. Isn't Sactown the place where careers are rehabilitated? Is Kandiman beyond redemption???

Redemption? Heck, he needs to be taught the basics of how to play basketball. He's a 7 footer who has shot 43% over his career, a nifty 32% in the playoffs, and averages more turnovers than he does blocks and steals combined. He's just a mess. Has a good big body + can get you some baords, but the only time he was worth a damn was in his contract year. Gee, shocker. Its not only motivation, its having the basketball IQ of a lungfish.

Well if "the only time he was worth a damn" was in his contract year, that tells me it's more a lack of motivation than anything else. But I'll take your word for it Brick, as I haven't really followed Kandi for some time now. I suppose I was thinking anything is better than seeing SAR or Corliss playing at Center. I didn't know he was that bad. How he was drafted as number 1 pick amazes me.

Well tlet's put it this way: a) he sucks; but b) I actually agree with you -- I'd certainly take him before any more smallball garbage. But man, he's clueless. Almost offensively so at times. Slap your head clueless. Just want to shake him. Its why I'd rather have a guy who at least understands the game and his role like Cato. Cato is not very good, but he plays within himself and is not obnoxiously stupid or selfish or lazy (most of the time). On the other hand, if its Kandiman or some of the real junk floating around out there on the FA market, I'll take Kandi. But its clear its really not going to fix much of anything at this point besides at least being a big body in there.

BTW, difference between Gerald and Kandiman is that Gerald was 20 when people were trying to write him off. Still at an age when you are learning the game. Amazingly Kandiman is now 31 and still has no clue. Don't see him having an epiphany at this late stage of the game.

Actually, I disagree with the boldest statement above only because I think he's "slap HIS head clueless."

His proclivity for turnovers and bone-head plays really makes me hope he never sees a day in a Kings uniform. We have enough problems. I would NEVER be able to watch a close game, especially in the playoffs, without the constant fear Kandi would fulfill Murphy's Law.

Oh man, I certainly think GP is smart enough to pass on Kandiman. If not, I would have to excuse myself to the nearest bathroom in order to take a second look at my lunch.

I only disagree with the idea of taking him over the "small-ball garbage". If the Kings picked him up virtually any lineup they could conjure up to put on the floor would be better without him in it.

Bottom line is he's awful, the only reason he's still playing is because he was once the first pick in the draft.
