Camby wants stipend for dress code

The stipend thing is just plain dumb. But so is the dress code. Nobody is right in this situation in my opinion.

How does the NBA expect Latrell Sprewell to feed his family if it is going to make him buy a suit???

You know, the dress code better have some strict guidelines. I don't want to see Jalen Rose in that bright red striped suit again.

That thing is almost as ugly as our new uniforms and the tie doesn't even come close to matching. He could use some fashion tips from his best friend.

I have never seen such spoiled brats in my life. They get paid such gaudy amounts of money that they have no sense of reality. Everything is handed to them. Hell, those who can best afford things, rarely have to pay. What BULL!

And why does everyone keep saying, "suits". No one is asking them to wear a dang suit. Just a sports coat and slacks (not jeans or sweats). My parttime job demands a dress code. If I wanted the job, I had to buy my own clothes on what little I made. With their millions, they damn well can too!!!!

It makes sense? Every person in my building is required to wear attire appropriate for business, even unpaid interns. As far as I know, NONE of them receive stipends (if they do, and nobody told me, heads are gonna ROLL!)

Let that sink in for a minute, even interns who are paid the mind numbingly extravagant salary of $0.00 / year.

Hell, cashiers at the drug store on my corner are expected to wear a dress shirt and tie. You wear what is deemed appropriate for your business, and YOUR BOSS DETERMINES WHAT IS APPROPRIATE. Sorry folks, that is the nature of business.

LMFAO

That is ridiculous...but at the same time they do give them a stipend on the road to buy food or whatever when we all know they don't even need that money

Damn, Doc's on a roll... Where've you been hiding all summer, Doc? You're already back in "midseason" form...

This makes me sick. I will go out of my way to boo Camby, Iverson, and whoever else decides to voice their spoiled little mind about it.

I remember when the Kings gave Christie a contract. In it included 100k a year for a clothing "stipend". NBA players like Camby are overpaid and need to have a reality check.

Why doesn't stern just tell his players to stop punching fans, to stop shooting limo drivers, to stop using drugs, and to stop abusing their wives. That would clean up the league's image better than a dress code.

^^You're mixing apples and mangos, sanity...

We are all well aware that you and a few others don't agree with Stern about the dress code.

This thread isn't about whether or not the dress code is appropriate. ;)

Marcus Camby is, without a doubt, now firmed entrenched on my "IDIOT" list.

I'm actually not opposed to the dress code, I just don't think it will clean up the image of the league.

This reminds me of a comment made by Patrick Ewing once. He was whining and complaining about not making enough money (some kind of league/union issue), and someone pointed out to him that he makes soooo much more money than most people. He defended his comments by saying that they (the NBA players) didn't live like most people. Gives real credence to the phrase, 'Try Grade A instead of Faberge'.

I think these players aren't trying to be greedy per se, they are just trying to avoid being taken advantage of. That really seems to be the attitude in most of these situations where a multi-millionaire player holds out or says something stupid. They think the league, and Stern are trying to take advantage of them and they are trying to stand up for themselves and not back down. Unfortunately, sometimes the owners and the leagues do try to take advantage of the players, and there is nobody in the players ears helping them distinguish between legitimate gripes and situations like this.

Why thank you slim!

I've been hiding at work, actually working instead of camping out here. That work stuff is really starting to crimp my style. And not just the business suit they sometimes make (strongly suggest) me wear. Did you realize that they expect me to show up FIVE days a week. No really, FIVE DAYS. The nerve.

work is for chumps.

I've never been in the armed services, but I hear you guys get to wear whatever the hell you want in the navy. Perhaps Iverson should enlist.

Oh B.S. When you work at ANY top end job, there is no stipend for clothes. There is no hardship. And for a sports coat? You've got to be kidding me.

You're a pro in the top 5% (and top 1% easily for bball players), you wear whatever has been deemed appropriate, and its not even a question.

There is a word that comes to mind to describe some of this whining, and its "spoiled". Spoiled rotten. The players receive compensation beyond the dreams of avarice. They are made some of the richest people in America. And then they want more to buy a sports coat???

clap clap clap clap

How could I forget-the ones with ten illegitimate children by nine different mothers probably have very steep child support payments. Maybe they are financially suffering after all...

it sounds likes the majority of the NBA or something...a stereotype of sorts...I mean yeah there are a few guys in the NBA in that very same position but the way you put made is seem like its a lot...I dunno thats just how I read it...I mean I know that you know that its not a majority or anything but to an outsider it would seem that way...

I never said all players in my post, I said 'the ones', as in some. When I posted it, I was specifically thinking about the article appearing in SI some years ago bringing to light the number of illegitimate children from pro sports league players.

You are assuming that they are actually making those child support payments.

Last I check AI, NBA isn't a school ground.

Seriously how hard is it to wear a pair of slacks, a dress shirt and a sport jacket? I mean they could surely wear the same shirt, pants and jacket numerous time because Stern didn't say they couldn't. It's just going to be people like me that are going to recognize it. LOL

These guys are such babies, the Million dollar players can buy nice armani suits if they want to, (Webber has always had very nice suits) but even at 400k the league min players can get 2-3 blazers at the big and tall store and some dockers and comply without going broke.

If they want more money they can always negotiate more money in their next contract. As far as the owners paying for required uniforms, that is so silly, each player can get as fancy as they want or as basic depending on each players taste and style. Smart casual blazers, casual slacks or fancy suits can always be used when players go to fancy restaurants, formal events, or other times the player wants to dress up a bit.

That is also why IRS wont let you deduct this type of clothing, If the dress clothes can also be used for non-usiness wear then it is just part of a persons wardrobe which can not be deducted. Only clothes that are "safety clothes" or uniforms that have company insignia or logo on them that are required by employer are deductable. If each team had a team blazer with team logo sewn on the jacket pocket, (hehe yeah some "gold standard" blazers would really make us fans puke),then they could be deducted, but the NBA is not requiring off-court uniforms, so each player can spend as much as they want to get their own look. They just have some very min standards to meet.

Personnaly I dont believe in formal dress codes, but when I was an employee accountant I had to wear ties, etc. Now as a self-employed CPA, I almost never wear a tie, but still wear casual clacks and collared shirt. Unless I take the Harley to work, then jeans and denim shirt. But heck Im the Boss so I can do as I please. If someone hired me for Millions , I would wear suits, uniforms, a chicken outfit if my boss wanted.

If these guys want to wear anything they want then quit the NBA, open a basketball camp, be your own boss, wear whatever you want.
