Calling All Bug People

There must be an entomologist out there. What is this bug? There are hundreds of them around my house lately. They act like they are coming around for the heat. They fly, and they stink. They look a lot like a Kissing Bug, but they are not.

Help!

They're known as the Assassin Bug and they're nasty, nasty critters. They bite - and leave horrible marks and draw blood. There's practically an infestation of them all over northern California right now. Put "Assassin Bug" into Google and you'll get tons of information.

To indicate how nasty they are, my cats won't even eat them and they eat virtually ALL bugs.

Wow, a "bug person" also? Thanks. I'll look them up.

P.S.

Spined Assassin Bug

Adults are 1/2 to 9/16 inch long, brown colored, narrow, angular, and rough-bodied. The head, thorax (middle part) and front leg (upper portion) are covered with spines and the female's abdomen is wavy. Cylindrical white eggs are laid in small groups covered with a reddish secretion. These bugs are very beneficial to agriculture, feeding on many injurious insects, attacking all stages of the Mexican bean beetle.

These may not be kissing bugs, but they are way too close for me to fool around! Chagas disease is incurable! It is really, really, bad. I just ran out and set up a bug light, first time in years. I don't care if assassin bugs are benefitial for agriculture. The only agriculture I have around here feeds blue jays and deer.

Vf, what do you not do?

ROFL!!

Well, let's just say that she is a well-rounded individual. When you get our age, you've had plenty of time for various experiences, especially if you keep yourself open to it. I think maybe VF is very open.....or has been. :D

You're safe from Chagas disease unless you take a trip to Central America and sleep on the floor of your relatives' mudhut.

Gargy, I was planning on taking a trip to Central America and sleeping on the floor of a stranger's mudhut. Does that mean I am safe? :p
