Byron Scott fired today

Just filed to ESPN: Our first coaching change of the season. New Orleans has today dismissed Byron Scott in the wake of a 3-6 start (via twitter from Mark Stein)

not gonna say I called it... but ... you know... check the NBA comments thread... from now on I will only answer to "Nostradumbass". it's catchy.

Scott deserved it. He reminds me of Lovie Smith on the sideline. Just seemed lost out there... seems like his players just stopped playing for him.

See my prediction in the other thread. :D

gosh bad timing - I suppose he could have had the Minnesota or Sacramento jobs for the asking if he had been fired LAST year. Now what?

Ugh, Scott is one of the worst fits for this team, and I did NOT want him here.

On topic: I thought they would let him coach out the year and let him walk (because they are paying him so much). Now I have no idea who they will replace him with. If it's an assistant who is promoted, kiss the season goodbye.

Everybody down here in LA is blaming the Hornets players for quitting on him. Which is valid, because they did get beat by 58 points, at home, in the playoffs, so, criticism abounds. But people seem to forget that this is the second time that Byron Scott has been fired after "losing his team". And we're not talking about unaccomplished scrubs; we're talking about veteran teams. Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, Chris Paul, Emeka Okafor, etc. They're calling the players bums and losers, but isn't a coach supposed to keep his team competing to the best of their ability? Oh, and I watched most of that Suns/Hornets game last night, and Chris Paul and Co. did not quit.

I can't absolve him of guilt. This goes both ways.

I don't think they're going to squeeze much more blood out of that turnip w/ a new coach of the caliber they're in the market for. They've got another move in their future.

Yeah sure NO lost 6 of 9

But look at the losses

Road - San Antonio
Road - Boston
Road - Lakers
Road - Suns

Road - Knicks (yeah should have had that one)
Home - Toronto

Wins
Home Sacto
Home Dallas
Road Clippers

Other than Knicks and Toronto what was expected with that squad
given the schedule

Good teams in a tough stretch should have won a couple of those games.. Think back to when Sac was good.. We would have came back with a 3-1 or 2-2 if we played those 4 road teams.

But in those losses, they weren't competitive. And they barely beat the Kings, and had a MIRACLE win against Dallas.

In case you didn't see that game, the mavs could have iced the game at the FT line. They were up 3. They had a tech FT - miss, followed by two FT misses on a foul. They missed 3 straight FT's while up 3. Peja, after missing everything all game, hits a miracle 3 to sent the game to OT where the Hornets win thanks to Paul and Dirk fouling out. That was total choke job by the mavs.

So two of those wins could have very well been two more losses.

Also, they used to actually compete with the top teams. Now, against those top teams, they get blown out.

vs:

Suns = 124-104
Lakers = 104-88
Celtics = 97-87
Spurs = 113-96

They weren't even in those games.

IMO this should've happened in the off season, but whatever. I was watching Hornets against Toronto and they were playing like a bunch of guys who were taken from some street court to play together.
For eg. Paul had great statistics, but he made so many mistakes when Hornets still had chance to get close to Raptors. Other guys aren't better.

I am little surprised that they didn't hire some real coach instead of their GM, but oh well.

He's a good coach. He just doesn't have much to work with besides CP3.

You're right. When you only have 1 really good player, how do you expect the record to be?

That’s exactly my thought. Even though the team would have needed to pay Scott's last year, it would have allowed the team to find another coach that could get a better start.
