KINGS WAIVE FOUR PLAYERS
SACRAMENTO, CA, Sunday, October 14, 2007 --- The Sacramento Kings today requested waivers on free agent centers Rashid Byrd and Adam Parada and forwards Nik Caner-Medley and Brandon Robinson, according to Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.
The Kings’ updated roster now stands at 15 players.

15 is max right? Think we will waive anyone else?

15 is max, 13 is minimum. Watkins, Shakur, and Greene are the only guys left who are on the bubble - one of Shakur and Greene will make it for sure, and the other two...? Well, from memory it seems like the Kings have left training camp with rosters of 13 in recent years, which doesn't bode well for Watkins and one of the points.

Greene is the only one i think is going to make it

Agreed. I think he stayed on the bench in game 2 because they got a good look at him already and figure he's a keeper. All the other guys had a decent chance to prove themselves in the 2nd game.

We will keep 13 and we may send 1 or 2 guys to the D league. That, of course, is only my guess.

The best thing about Adam Parada was that he went UC Irvine. Wow, talk about basketball powerhouse.

Of the four, anyway, only Nik Caner Medley was a name, and even so, he had a 5% chance of making the team. Obviously didn't come to fruition.

Although he really did pretty well for a guy whose NBA career was a total of 6 minutes of PT. Three assists and two points on 100% shooting... could be worse.

I fully expected those guys to get cut, although I'm kind of surprised at how soon they did it. They might have been useful in practice for a couple more weeks... ?

Oh well, no biggie.

Oh well. I kind of liked the idea of having Caner-Medley (I've never actually seen him play) but it's not like he would have seen any PT anyway. Even having Justin (and Hawes) get some semblance of regular minutes will be very good with this frontcourt logjam.

If only we could get rid of SAR and KFT so painlessly instead...

As for the PGs I think we'll keep them both. We're still Kings so... not to call any trouble, but I expect them to have at least some opportunities to play during the season if you know what I mean :o

Granted I've only seen Shakur in the 1 pre-season game and a handful of minutes of summer league, but he's not an NBA PG. Greene is having trouble finding time in the NBA and he appears to be much better than Shakur. I don't see the point of keeping Watkins. He'll never ever play for us.

I think Shakur is all but gone. He hasn't stepped up during the preseason and I don't think he will in these next two games. Greene may not be a great player, but at least he's got the NBA experience over Shakur.

I don't think it'll be so bad for Shakur. He can go to the D-league and maybe we'll bring him back mid-season like we did with J-Will. At this point I don't think anyone believes Justin Williams is getting cut. His cost/value is far too good to pass up now.

The one primary thing that has been holding Shakur back, besides his ever-wavering confidence, from college to now, has always been his shot. And in more ways than one, that in turn dictates his confidence--can't shoot, then can't exploit defenses, the lane is taken away, force the issue, become turnover prone. It has been the same old story for Shakur during his last threeish years at Arizona. McDonald's All American to projected lotto pick to eventually undrafted--Shakur definitely took the high road.

I will give Shakur credit--I've vouched for him many a time because of his intriguing height/athleticism/speed/general physical tools combination--but I don't know if it's time to let go. The guy did play solid at preseason, but with his strengths in penetration, getting to the free throw line, etc.--comes his flaws. He can't shoot. Period. Well, yeah, he can shoot free throws--practiced static shot with no defenders guarding you--that's given for a guard, though. But any other shot? I think that's where the D-League comes in--if he does improve, I think we can sign him back--much like J-Will last year; we waived him, he dominated D-League defensively, he came back. The difference is Orien Greene is drawing rave reviews--I think that might be the death knell for Shakur. But we'll see what happens.

In summer league I really like Caner-Medley with his 6-8 240 body and great outside shooting with bangers attitude going to basket. But guess he didn't show enough. Wish him well tho'.

I liked Caner-Medley too, but didn't see how he'd ever get any PT.

There's definitely going to be some minutes available for a PG, but I don't see anything fantastic on the horizon with any of the current options. Douby may yet turn into a good floor general, but so far he hasn't done that at all. In these first two games he's made 4 TOs and 1 assist, 3rd-worst A/TO ratio on the team (along with Greene's 0-1 and Justin's 0-2). Those three also share honors for the fewest assists per minute, but Douby is the hands down winner for most shots per assist (22-1).

Greene hasn't shown that he can run the offense, either. If you're content with 2 steals per game, and a lot of defensive intangibles, he's your guy. But that may be all you get. I don't know whether he's a SG with no shot, or a PG with no point.

Which leaves Shakur. He may have the best balanced game of the three, because he isn't especially good at anything.

Oh well... there will be some good PGs available 8 months from now.

He has no offense. Can't shoot and he can't break down defenses. At the very least, he's a good defender. All I know is that against Seattle, Delonte West was having his way against us and then Greene shut him down when inserted into the game. He's very active on the floor. Guards guys and played the passing lanes. Really need to see more of him but he stood out on our team because he played defense better than any of our other guards. I think he could get minutes for us but he would need 4 other guys on the court who had an offensive game.

I thought he shot well against Boston. Maybe he's a late bloomer...

Made a couple long distance shots that looked reaaaaal nice
Of course hes not a Kevin type of shooter, but I wouldnt go as far as saying he has no offense.
