Bulls looking for size...

Chicago Tribune - The Bulls will try to acquire some size with their $15M of cap room as they go into the free agency negotiating period on Saturday, with Detroit bruiser Ben Wallace and Atlanta tweener Al Harrington the best bets to get the first calls, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

While Othella Harrington and Darius Songaila are unlikely to return, the Bulls may also look towards Portland big man Joel Przybilla, Nazr Mohommed from San Antonio and Cleveland restricted free agent Drew Gooden, all of whom the Bulls have a stronger chance of securing than they do for Wallace.

Denver forward Nene is also a possibility, according to the Tribune, but the Nuggets have made Nene and Carmelo Anthony their off season priorities

Al Harrington? Where? I guess Ty Thomas wouldn't be starting in this case, or they'd be going small ball and trade Chandler. In most cases I think you gotta start Ty Thomas... I'd also certainly love to see it.

There were some more interesting/disturbing reports in the New York Daily News and Detroit papers that maybe, just maybe Big Ben was going to price himself out of the Pistons range, and that their backup FA to try to spend all that money on would be...Bonzi Wells. :(

Bobby was also mentioend as a possibility. Oh, and Bobby to the LAKERS was mentioned too. Ugh.

Bobby going to the Lakers would be funny. I think anyone who goes to the Lakers now has to be thinking, DAMN why couldn't I have been here when they were winning championships still.

B-Jax to the Lakers indeed... but I really see them getting Banks. Younger, and they've wanted him since they tried to a deal with Boston, but Banks for Payton (I think) couldn't happen.

On clearing space for Bonzi and not concentrating on Ben... well, that came from a NY paper, and they'd only be able to offer the MLE and a bench spot on a Pistons team with questions of their level.

If the Bulls waste their cap on Bonzi, they are DUMB! They need to go after: Nene, Harrington, Nazr, Big Ben, and Drew Gooden first. They are stacked at the SG/SF position. Especially after this draft.

If they didn't want to waste all their cap and were intersted in a S&T I wonder if we snag Tyson from them? I may go for that.

If I was unclear, the stories were actually about the Pistons going after Bonzi if Ben priced himself out of their range, not the Bulls.

The Bulls themselves...well, you would think they would be looking up front, but they coudl decide to go with Tyrus and Chandler, and they really don;t have a true OG -- jsut an oversized PG and an undersized tweener. So anything is possible I suppose.

If the Bulls were actually to add Big Ben...we'd mused about that earlier this season, but now with Tyrus Thomas too? Go from no frontcourt to one of the more intimidating ones I've ever seen put together defensively.

Whether or not the Pistons sign Ben Wallace, they still have nothing more than the MLE to offer Bonzi. Even without Big Ben, the have a payroll of about $46 million. Unless there is a huge jump in the salary cap (announced in the next week or two) they are pretty close to tapped out.

The Bulls could have some interest in Wells, but with a young team, I don't know why they would give a 30 year old guard a five year deal. Especially when they seem pretty high on Thabo Sefolosha.

Bulls I don't believe are a threat... they have Sefolosha now (who isn't gonna go overseas)/Khryapa/Nocioni/Deng/Ben Gordon all playing the wing spots. Plus the possibility of Hinrich playing off-the-ball w/ Duhon running the point.

Plus, if they want an SG, they'd want a shooter...

Wallace to meet with Bulls on first day of NBA free agency
Saturday, July 01, 2006
By A. Sherrod Blakely
AUBURN HILLS - Two NBA officials confirmed Friday night that Detroit center Ben Wallace, considered by most to be the top free agent available this summer, is scheduled to meet with the Chicago Bulls in Chicago today. Teams can begin negotiating with free agents today, but they can not sign players to contracts until July 12.

The Bulls are one of the few teams that will have enough salary cap space to sign Wallace, who as an unrestricted free agent can sign with any team he wants.

While all indications have been that Wallace would re-sign with Detroit, several league officials contacted on Friday said that they're not surprised that the 31-year-old Wallace will consider all his options.

Hinrich
Sefolosha or Gordon
Deng
Thomas
Ben Wallace

Bench: Ben Gordon/Nocioni/Duhon/Khryapa

Nice. Chandler - gone, or not? Interesting.

If Ben decides he wants to go to Chicago I wonder if they would try to work out a S&T w/Detroit for Chandler or whether they would keep Chandler for trade bait.

I'd trade Chandler+cash for big ben because it'd allow them to keep their cap room. Tyrus is going to be a smaller and better Chandler anyway. Then they can go out and get 3 FAs, like Bonzi, Harrington, and Nene. They have like 21 million in cap room I think. Their team would be amazing after that. Talent from the first roster spot to the 13th.

But I don't think they'd want to do Detroit any favors, they're theoretically going to be competing with them for the Eastern Conference Finals. Better to work out a S&T using Chandler with Atlanta for Harrington or a trade with a team out of their division (Kings?).

Better yet just to keep Chandler and compeltely dominate th boards and interior on defense. No rule says you can only have one rebounder/shotblocker.
