Chicago Tribune - Having secured the services of Ben Wallace and acquired PJ Brown and JR Smith for Tyson Chandler, John Paxson signaled the likelihood of another acquisition sometime after the salary cap is announced next week, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Paxson spoke for the first time since Wallace agreed to terms with the team on Thursday after the team's first day of mini-camp at the Berto Center.

John Paxson raised the stakes for the Bulls with his deal this week to bring defensive powerhouse Ben Wallace to Chicago.

The Bulls' general manager finally talked about it, albeit in general terms, Thursday after the team's first day of mini-camp at the Berto Center.

"I hope expectations are high," Paxson said of the Bulls' elevation from playoff contenders to championship contenders. "We have big expectations for ourselves."

"I think it's going to be a great training camp when we get around to it in October," Paxson said. "We're going to have guys battling. I think they're going to see we've made a commitment to upgrading our professionalism, our talent base, our athleticism, our length.

"It gives me a chance to evaluate what the next step will be. Sometimes you can't do everything all at once. Down the road we'll be able to maybe make another move that helps us out even more."

In acquiring Smith and Viktor Khryapa, as well as picking up Malik Allen's option, Paxson has flexibility to move some players. The salary cap announcement will help him decide his next move.

If I was a GM in the East, I'd be very worried about what Paxson might have in mind.
 
Oh! I skipped that I guess but thanks for pointing it out. Dang I am jealous of the bulls right now, they are doing everything and getting so much better while we wait for Bonzi's agent to stop playing games with us. The Bulls are really turning into a super power in one offseason.
 
I don't think we're waiting for Phillips to stop playing games. I think what has happened is that Petrie made an offer, Phillips made a counter-offer and now Petrie is waiting. Since most of the teams that may have initially been able to bid for Bonzi have acquired other players, I think Petrie is the one holding the winning hand. Either by being able to offer more than MLE or by some kind of agreeable S&T, it appears the Kings could easily end up on the good end of this.
 
You know what's really scary? The Bulls get the Knicks first rounder next year...The bulls get so much better in one offseason, and the already terrible Knicks get so much worse (hiring Isiah as coach and all, drafting so...creatively) Chicago could end up with a top 3 pick in the draft. Can you imagine if they got Oden or Durant?
 
Well, the Bulls will definitely swap picks with the Knicks next year, but I don't think they will have a shot at Oden. No way the Knicks are as bad next year as they were this year. Even though Isiah made a mess of the Knicks, it will be pretty hard for him to not improve the Knicks record next year. They won't make the playoffs, but they'll be a lot better. At least they will have a consistent starting lineup next year, which should be enough for them to make a marked improvement. Still, they will get a top 10 pick for sure, and with a high quality draft next year, they will still get a nice player. Not Oden though.
 
Maybe Kurt Thomas is up for grabs. I could see the Sarver regime sending him and Leandrio Barbosa both, out to Chicago in exchange for $3 million dollars, a half-full pallet of out-of-date sunrise brand macaroni and cheese, and the rights to Dalibor Bagaric if the CBA would allow it...

The Knicks will trade for a new low 1st rounder and they will draft an unknown named Relando Balmkan. With their 2nd rounder, they take Neraldo Lalkban.
 
Chicago Sun-Times - Could Chris Wilcox be the next target that the Chicago Bulls will chase this offseason?

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bulls could use another big body. And according to team sources, the Sun-Times writes, the next name on Paxson's wish list is restricted free agent Chris Wilcox, a 6-10 power forward.

Since the Ben Wallace signing will eat up most of the Bulls' $16 million of cap space, their best chance of landing Wilcox will be through a sign-and-trade deal with his current team, the Seattle SuperSonics . That's always a tricky situation when the current team wants to retain the player, but the Bulls could benefit from the Sonics' shaky financial outlook.

Wilcox, who will turn 24 in September, is looking for a multiyear deal at roughly $10 million a year.

It's doubtful the Bulls would be willing to pay that kind of money as well, but they are in a better position to meet Wilcox's salary demands. The Bulls also have the kind of young talent to entice Seattle into making a deal.

J.R. Smith, a 6-6 guard who is also part of the Chandler deal, is very attractive because of his youth (he turns 21 in September), and Malik Allen and Viktor Khryapa are other players who could be included in a trade.

Even if they don't acquire Wilcox, a trade seems likely because the Bulls have too many players worthy of playing time. Brown, though, believes the Bulls have big plans for him.

''I don't think they're bringing me there to just let my contract expire,'' P.J. Brown told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. ''I think they want me to definitely help get this team to the next level. With the acquisition of Ben, you see how committed they are toward winning.''

Again, absolutely love the aggression though. Trying their damndest to go for the presto! instant-contender offseason.
 
Isiah's a great drafter though...

And say what you want about the Balkman pick, and that the Knicks should of taken a PG... but, I think from what I've gathered and seen on the guy, he's gonna be a good player for the Knicks. He's athletic, long, hustles, good defender. Knicks haven't had a guy like that since Jerome Williams, and is a type of player they've needed to add to all the offensive players and scorers they have. Similar deal for Collins, only is a different type of player because he's a wingplayer, but brings those things as well, and of course that pick was more justified.

Now it is just the summer league, but he was all over the place today vs. the Cavs. Think his style and game will carry over well to the pros.
