Here's a trade deadline deal that could benefit both teams, push Sacramento into elite status, and give New Jersey a potent enough backcourt to challenge in the east next season.

Why the Kings do this: Quality center, check, cap space, check, solving the wing conundrum, check. Toughness, check, rebounding, check, post scoring, check. With an All-Star quality center, and enough cap space to get another quality free agent (Simmons + KT = $20 Million in expirings), the Kings would be set for a serious championship run very soon .

Why the Kings don't do this: Coach Westphal has always liked smallerball teams, and Brook Lopez might slow down their approach too much. If the Nets demand the Kings 1st round pick and Kevin Martin, it might be too rich for Geoffe to pull the trigger.

Why the Nets do this: A back court of Devin Harris and Kevin Martin would be dynamic, especially in the eastern conference, and that could lift them into the post season. They would be set there for the next 5+ years. Given the depth of big men in this draft they could get 1 or 2 quality inside players to compliment them, not to mention a good free agent this summer. This would give them more ping pong balls too .

Why the Nets don't do this: Brook Lopez is looking great and could develop into a perennial all-star. Draft picks are more hit and miss...K-Mart also has an injury history that could scare off the Nets.

I would love to do this trade. The Nets, probably not. If it did go down, they'd probably want a servcable center back. Meaning we'd probably have to give up Hawes as well.

I would love this deal, but as bad as the Nets are now, they know one thing going forward - they have the center position taken care of for the next 12 years. Whichever way they want to go with their rebuild, Lopez should be the first building block, with anything else expendable.

Cash can't take the place of salary in a trade. It can be a sweetener, but the contracts still have to match.

regardless of their pathetic record, NJ is in a pretty good rebuilding spot right now.

Two young talents in Lopez and Harris. Some young role players like Courtney Lee, Yi, Terrance Williams.

This summer they'll have 20M + in cap space plus a top 5 draft pick. I can't imagine they would trade older for younger and big for small right now. They are just about to get a bounce next year.

I proposed nearly an identical trade idea a month or two ago and the majority said that NJ probably wouldn't do it. I personally look at it with the outlook of if you're making history of being the worst team of all time, no one is untradable and would think this would be more than enough to get it done.

I wanted to do it then, and I would be down to do it now. The only down side is that we're sending our boy Martin to arguably one of the worst teams in history.

I have my doubts as well, but if we could trade Martin and Hawes for Simmons and Lopez, it could end up being a good trade for both teams. Yeah, Hawes isn't as good a player as Lopez is right now, but he will get better and is certainly of value. They would have Martin to play along side Harris. I wouldn't throw in the 2010 first round pick though. I'd be willing to give them a 2011 pick. The plus for us is that we upgrade at center and we gain siginificant cap space at the end of the year.

Well I don't want to get my lips too close to any part of Kiki's face, but I agree with you on the difference between Hawes and Lopez. The difference maker would have to be Martin in this deal, and I have no idea how much they would covet Martin. As I said, I doubt this would happen. But their willing I'm willing..

Prokhorov never done anything stupid or hasty during his CSKA era. I just think that he wants to be patient and see what is going on before he makes any deals.
