I think they only way their investment pays off is if they can start a regional sports network with a partner like the Mariners. The arena revenue will not cover what they are spending. I know Ballmer is loaded, but so is Paul Allen and he got to a point where losing money on the Blazers and their arena was a burden to him.

Even RSN's need good content. The Mariners and reincarnated Sonics are not exactly hot products on the field and court. The Mariners were 26th in attendance last season.

Yep, Seattle fans like to keep mentioning the bigger market, but fail to mention the competition for money. The sonics lost last time and doesn't look like anything has changed.

RE at it again this morning. Says it will come down to the better arena plan.

Sac RR yards arena very complex & challenging deal, but a winner. Building new owner group plus arena doubles complexity. That's the story.

Sac's arena plan will have to be tight and truly funded to the dollar. No time for buying time.

Nailing down arena & premium inventory partners gives competing city big lift.

Prediction: ultimate NBA decision won't hang on new owner but rather most solid arena plan (followed by premium inventory sales).

Hansen must hope to avoid Sac momentum builder & spring uprising in April. All bad for Seattle. Quick close out best for them.

Seattle's Hansen strategy: keep quite while Sac makes news trying to keep Kings.

I must not be reading your post correctly. The Maloofs "good guys" ship sailed quite a while ago, crashed on the rocks and sank like a stone. There's not even enough wreckage for any kind of salvage operation at this point.
Quite true. Let's that selling local makes them less bad guys. Fine distinction but I think real for them. Put another way- they can't control the outcome but I believe they would prefer local ownership at the same price. Down with the spite/vengeance factor.

I'm more of a fan of the Downtown Plaza site myself. The only reason the railyards even came up was because Westfield was uncooperative. We don't have all the facts about the financials and time might be tight. But if one of the partners already owns the land, it's not a problem there.

I know where the problem is with DTP. It's that the east end of DTP where the arena is planned, is 1,920 of the 5,144 garage parking spots in the parking concession deal. That is about 37% of the total garage spots. So the trick is to replace those spots with a new garage(s) both onsite and offsite. Losing 37% of the spots means losing 95 million of the 255 million from the city.

True, but if JMA Ventures is now partner they could be making up the difference.

Been working that puzzle. Possible answers are that Macy's has 299 private spots. That could be conveyed to the city once the Macy's store sells. During construction of the arena, not all of the east end plaza is needed for the arena itself. If they can include a new city owned garage with premium event parking of about 800-1,000 spaces, it could offset the loss somewhat. Less spaces, but higher value spaces. They actually had a premium garage added to the railyards late in those negotiations. I think David Taylor was going to bankroll that. Not insurmountable, but they have to work out a lot of these details. I think the move of the site to DTP serves the city better in the long run and the end result will be one of the finest downtown arena projects in the country. It's the right place.

Yesterday I had lunch and Pizza Rock on K St. and walking through that whole area down there just screams with exciting possibilities.

Mastrov met with the 20 local investors today

http://blogs.sacbee.com/city-beat/2...mastrov-meets-with-local-kings-investors.html

Mastrov, who reportedly made an unsuccessful bid of $350 million to buy the Golden State Warriors in 2010, is in serious discussions with billionaire Ron Burkle on teaming up on a bid to purchase the Kings and keep them in Sacramento. The pair has also discussed partnering on a plan to help build a new downtown sports arena, most likely at the site of the Downtown Plaza, sources have told The Bee.

This morning was my first and last visit to "Sonics Rising". I made the mistake of venturing that way to see if there was any additional news from Seattle's side and perhaps find some perspective from the other side of things.

What I found is this:

For all the vitriol and anger Seattle fans tend to hurl at Clay Bennett and OKC, they themselves are worse. Much worse.

The vast majority of posts were mocking or jeering comments directed towards Sacramento's efforts to retain the Kings with the occasional disclaimer of fake sympathy.

Shameful really.

The Sonics were taken from them in shady and unfair circumstances, but they are more than happy to do exactly the same to another group of fans. Knowing what the experience is like and yet gleefully wishing for it to happen to others makes them worse than OKC.

I live in Seattle, and I can honestly say that a lot of the people up here are snarky, passive aggressive, rude, or just downright douchey.

But we only get (on average) 58 sunny days a year up here, so can you blame us? :p

I purposely avoided their forums. I guess it was a good choice.

If anyone has earned spite, and Vengence, its the Malools. You want to forgive them, have at it, but I won't be a party to it. You believe they would perfer to sell to a local owner? Why? What have they done or said that would lead anyone to believe that. Or is it just wishful thinking on your part? They've had ample opportunity to state their true intentions, and we've heard nothing, other than lies, saying that the team wasn't for sale, and that they would never sell, but then going behind the backs of the city, and the minority owners, and trying to sell the team to Seattle.

I defended the Maloofs for a long long time. But no more! As far as I'm concerned, they're the scum of the earth!

I believe you have the highest sucide rate of any major city in the united states. It could go up if the BOG rejects Seattle's plan.
