Brian Skinner

I've been observing how Brian Skinner has been playing since he came to Sacramento. I believe he is a HUGE addition to our team. Getting those rebounds on both ends of the court, scoring, doing all the dirty work, I think he's gonna be a big problem for the other teams in the playoffs. Brian has been averaging a minimum of 9 rebounds in most of our games since he got here. He's been getting a bunch of double doubles lately too.

With Thomas next to him... they can grab the boards all day! I think this is why we traded Webber, so we can have a better rebounding team. And actually play some defense. Because these were the problems why we didnt succeed in the past few years. i like where we're going with this.

Curiously timed thread given the falloff in Brian's effectiveness recently and his likely imminent benching when Brad returns. Still like what he brings -- indeed of ALL of our frontcourt players (except Tag) Skinner is actually the ONLY one who has good size and presence for his position (his natural PF, not when out of position at center). But that big impressive impact he brought for the first 7 or 8 games has been replaced now with kind of just a guy getting 9 and 9.

Which is still much more anyone expected from Skinner when we traded for him. I think the injuries that have affected his game recently, but I seriously hope he returns to that level of play of the 7- 8 games of which you speak. But all in all, Skinner has been more than a pleasant surprise and hope his minutes don't comletely dwindle, because his toughness and hustle are needed on this team.

Well, I dunno about that -- he was 10 and 7 as a starter last year for the Bucks. He's shown he's capable of 9 and 9 type work. But I think the 9 and 9 I would have expectd would have been more like his recent play (and I worried he might not ever even get the minutes he needed until Brad went down) -- ok, solid toughguy, but not inspiring. He's shown he can put up decent numbers, the difference is that he's just never really MATTERED before.

There is a word for that... roll player. Solid roll player when healthy.

Skinner's numbers aren't as important as his toughness. We needed tougher guys down low than C-Webb and GP got em'. Our big guys definitely don't make the sad face like C-Webb, they make an angry face!

...and still get scored over and through more or less at will. Only now we can't consistently answer back inside and just have to try to jumper people to death.

Who did we get who is "tougher down low"? Corliss's toughness is really just attributed to the fact that he gets to take advantage of smaller 3's. Kenny uses his slashing ability and speed to get past his man on drives to the basket, or he knocks down the jump shots. And Skinner has shown that he is VERY out of place when he has to guard a 7-footer. The advantage they bring is not toughness. They bring mobility, speed, a knowledge of how to box out, and a willingness not to be the focal point of the offense.

Once Brad is back, everyone will be back to their normal positions. Corliss will get to beat up on undersized SF's. Skinner will get to come off the bench with some energy and shot-blocking and not have to try and prevent guys way too big for him from posting him up all game.

When brad comes back skinner can be a energetic backup for him for the rest of this season. But if he works to try to become a PF this summer I would like him to start at the 4.

id rather see us get a real pf in the offseason and either trade skinner to get that or keep him as a backup if possible. its not that i dont like him- i like him a lot- but he is the type of player who i would love to see come off the bench. not quite a starter, as has been proven time and again when he has to play against quality centers or pfs.
