I was reading his latest game blog when this jumped out at me like the boogeyman on Halloween...

CruzDude said:
Ailene Voisin confirmed (she is sitting 3 chairs over in the press room) that Sean May has agreed to sign with the Kings.

I have one thing to say...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I do not see the point and have an eyebrow actively raised, but not sure Sean May is worth a NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ;) A couple of years back Sean May, at the same age, actually put up better numbers than Jason Thompson did (11.9pts 6.7rebs in 24min a game). So as a flyer...you could probably do worse.

Now of course if this is all we do for the frontline, and this is Petrie's newest pathetic excuse for finding interior defense (which will of course be accompanied by his annual "we'll be fine, we just have to play team defense" speech), then I may join you. Katie for GM anybody? :p

I vote Katie for GM

BTW if this is true, then Sean May has told teams he would play for the minimum. Which is okay I guess.

Sounds like it would be a league minimum deal and for a guy that had some potential on a team that needs that. BUT, as usual, it seems to ignore the glaringly obvious demands for size, interior defense and a general lack of "chubbiness". I swear if a guy hits 5 j's in a row during a Kings workout, Petrie tosses a contract his way. Oh well, I'm sure there is a brilliant move right around the corner.

A minimum one year deal is nothing to get upset over .. I would rather have someone else, but I just cant get worked up over this one and I wish May the best.

Who is Katie? I vote for Kayte.

We need players willing to play for the minimum

Sean May for the Minimum is way better than Ike Diogu for $3 Mil. The Kings biggest asset right now is cap room to facilitate another team trying to get below the luxury tax. To get a legitimate NBA front-court player (when healthy) willing to play for the minimum, come off the bench and prove himself is just what we need. Nobody that we sign is going to put Hawes or JT on the bench. Now I understand the desire for interior defense, but for the minimum I will settle for talented with something to prove. It will be interesting to see what back-up center we bring onboard, but that has no bearing on this signing. Good work GP.

I assumed Brick accidentally misspelled her name, but went along with it. Bricklayer got a flyer this time because, heck, he may have known of a hottie named Katie and wanted to get her hooked up. I would be fine with that right now too.:D

Did you say we shouldn't be haters?

I was not being a hater. I just do not think he's that much of a bargain, I don't think he'll be much help and I would much rather have had someone else. Hence my comment. I did not mention "hate" in any way...

Now, that the market price has been set for ex high draft picks that underperform. Maybe we can get Ike for close to the Min.

Cap Space isn't worth anything if your not going to use it or there's no one good to use it on. As long as we only sign players to one yr deals or two yr deals with a team option for the second yr, we'll still have the same cap next yr. that we would of had if we didn't use it.

But based on (Joe or Gavin don't remember which) comments it sounds like their looking to next yr. to add a big name. A yr for the young guys to develop, a yr to acquire another high draft choice, then add a big name to move the Kings into the playoffs. Playoffs in 1 or 2 yrs.

A cheaper, better shooting, worse defender, and a tad better rebonder than Ike at 1/3 the price. not a negative pickup. if legs are ok good blossom into a good pickup. still would like to add some length on the bench as well.

lets see

thats 13 i still think a trade looms.

Except we have very little to do so to begin with, and now have about 1 million less. If that's the idea the best thing would have been to stash Casspi in Europe for a year, sign Brockman real cheap, and get on the horn.

how tall is sean may? 6'9... not bad atleast he isnt a midget... if he can put up 11/6 like he did a couple of years ago he wont be that bad of a pick up... he wont put us over the top but atleast we wont cringe everytime he steps on the floor. i used to hate seeing moore out there, he can score a little so he wont be completely lost out there.

Aside from concerns about his knees, and the fact that, defensively, he makes Darius Songaila look like Marcus Camby, I'm okay with what he brings, and can't get very worked up about any tiny one year contracts anyway. So... whatever.

Maybe we will win 20 games instead of 17 games.

At a price of the league minimum, I'd say a brilliant choice by Petrie. May is young and hope he can keep himself healthy the whole season. This is a minimum risk high reward choice. And better than a 3M for Diogu.

Maybe we have another tasteful Suns Mascot fat joke to brighten our season, ala Oliver Miller from the earlier dark ages!!!
:p

In all seriousness, cheaper than Ike, probably better than Mikki.
Why complain?
Welcome aboard and best of luck!

Good point. Sean May can't be worse than Mikki. Last time I checked, though, Sean is only 6'9". So maybe he can be like an offensive-minded John Brockman? They might be about as big too

Seems like a stopgap solution for our frontline...

Which is fine. I like this signing actually.

Next years draft is seriously big heavy in the top 10 (where we will undoubtedly pick)...So handing out a 1 year deal for a bench big is fine and dandy as our next high draft pick (and hopefully LAST high draft pick, at least for awhile) will probably play the 4 or 5 and will need minutes.

Not a bad idea. Use Brockman when you need rebounding and physical play, and use May when you need scoring. Don't know if it will work, but worth a try.

Use neither when you need to actually stop somebody, which is the true problem up front. ;)

While I shrug at this signing, and have said its ok if Brockman and May are the 4th/5th bigs battling it out in a talent vs. scrap contest, this still does absolutely nothing to address our half decade long weakness up front defensively. We still need that legit defensive #3.
