Brand Injury Opens Trade Possibilities

i would never wish any player to get hurt, but the Elton Brand injury could possibly open a door for the kings-clips trade...

the clips basically have no backup power forward, unless you call tim thomas a PF... the kings have three players that can play PF (SAR, KT, Mikki Moore)... the clips just signed Brevin Knight to FA contract, so they have a PG...

how about SAR or KT for Sam Cassell... cassell is on his last legs and is injury prone, so the clips might not mind sending him out... he is an ending contract... clips probably wouldn't take KT, but SAR may fit their needs until Brand is back in 6 + months from his achilles injury....

I wouldn't mind seeing any of the PFs in our team go.

Even better if they would take both SAR and KT to cover for Elton. :p

I dont think even the Clips would be stupid enough to make that trade. Any trade that mentions KT in it probably makes GM's run as fast as they can without stopping to get away. They may have interest in SAR, though...not sure what else we'd have to throw in to get them to bite, though.

With Livingston and now Brand out with injuries. The Clippers are going to need help. Lets hope we can be help them out with a player or two.

Moore for Cassell would likely be more attractive for the Clippers. Not sure if the Kings are willing to help them out, in exchange for a breaking down point guard going to a team with three point guards. That would also leave the Clippers dangerously thin at point guard, given that Knight is injury-prone. If the Clippers were to exercise their team option for Will Conroy, Moore and Douby for Cassell and Conroy would work. They would have to wait until December 13 to make that trade, however. It's possible that they'd take back Shareef instead of Moore.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think you can trade Moore after just signed him weeks ago....

That's correct. You have to wait until three months after the free agent has been signed, or December 13, whichever is later.

Houston and the Clips both have holes at the PF spot. Just so happens we can spare 1 or 2 of them for the right deal. How many second round picks does it take to add up to KT's contract.

Don't forget they have Al Thornton. This just means he's going to get a lot of playing time this year which will speed his progression. The guy is going to be a star.

Totally! Thornton is the real deal...and as long as he stays healthy, will have a very long and productive NBA career.

Al Thornton = Desmond Mason.... not a star but a good player, well at least he was a good player at one time.

Even with Al, SAR can still be a nice backup for them.

Geez! Just take at least 1 of our big men away please! :p

Moore for Cassell would be pointless for us, unless they threw in a second round pick. Geoff signed Moore because he wanted either a big body to contribute upfront or the contract as an asset.

If we wanted to dump Reef's contract, Reef for Cassell would solve that, but we should seek more than just Cassell.

Artest for Maggs is probably off for now. Maggette is the better player if the Clippers still want to push for the playoffs.

Al Thornton was not drafted by the Kings because he wasn't what they needed at #10. Just like if J. Noah would have been there he likely would have been taken instead of S. Hawes. No doubt Thornton at 24 years old MAY be productive this season for the Clips and MAY have a long NBA career. The same can be said about our new 19 year old center... he MAY...

To return to the topic at hand ;), I'd be willing to send them SAR for whatever they want to send back (provided there's at least a shorter contract or something involved). At this point, just an expiring contract would look good to me.

I'd guess the Clips will apply for a medical injury exception in a potential season-ending injury like this one. I remember the Rockets got an injury exception for Mo Taylor's achillies tendon injury (sounds like the same injury as Brand) a few yrs back (Mo missed the entire season).

If the Clips gets the MIE, that's around $7 millions they can play in the FA market. Or better yet, they can trade the MIE to us for SAR (must pray harder tonite).

From the Clips' point of view though, I don't see why they'd want a downhill vet coming off a knee surgery.

This is a possibility, though I'm not entirely sure what the requirements are to get it. This is how we ended up with Jimmy Jackson and (I believe) Damon Jones

I am with you. Its not as if i hate SAR or KT that bad. I just don't want them taking time away from Justin, Spencer, or Watkins if he is here.

Or better than using their tall SF to be fill the shoes of their very good vet.

No it isn't. SAR isn't getting them to the playoffs anyway so they should just let their pick Thornton get as much time as possible. Why would you want a washed up vet like Reef taking up a young guy's time on a lottery team? That's stupid. Atleast we have an excuse, we're stuck with him. But if the Clippers trade for him they're flat out stupid.

They'd get a medical exception of around 5.3 million. The rule is you get either 50% of the player's salary or the league average, whichever is less. The league average is roughly 5.3 million.

So basically you get an extra MLE to play with to either sign a player or trade for an MLE contract.

err... maybe because as young and energetic as Al Thornton might be, he sometimes needs to rest?

Clippers doesn't have another PF besides him at the moment. and by tall SF I meant Tim Thomas. :D

I see. $5.3 millions. We'll take that! Trade the medical exception for SAR, Clips!!
