I was feeling badly for Quinn as he fell in the picks. But all's well that ends well and I think this could be "the beginning of a beautiful friendship" - to paraphrase "Casablanca" - with Quinn actually playing quarterback for his childhood team.

I may have to start following the Browns more closely. Whooooooo!!!

:D

He handled it quite well. I watched the entire first round today...

If he can handle that kind of pressure, I'm pretty sure he'll do okay in the NFL.

I watched almost all of it, too, VF. Very, very mature young man, who handled himself exceptionally well, I thought. Said he had to calm his family down and thought it was worse for them, than him.

I think it was great that Cleveland moved up to nab him and the Cleveland fans were sure happy. Good for him, that he gets to play for his hometown team, his dream come true.

hoopsie is a USC fan, who really dislikes ND. I suspect her comment was more of a
than anything else.

Quinn may have been disappointed that he wasn't chosen earlier, especially considering that he wasn't even the Browns' first selection pick. But whatever. Quinn is now on his favorite team that he rooted for as a kid, and not too many NFL players can say that.

Draft selection choice is not an indicator of how a young player --- especially a QB --- will do in the NFL. It takes time, and sometimes as much as 2-3 seasons, for a rookie QB to develop in the pro leagues.

Speaking of QB's being drafted, the Raiders' #1 overall pick yesterday was JaMarcus Russell of LSU. He'll go into the Raiders training camp with tons of high expectations, and there'll be lots of pressure on him. But he needs to patient and not try to outdo himself, especially with this Raiders team.

IIRC, the 49ers drafted Joe Montana in 1979...in the third round! And he didn't do too badly later on in his career. :)

I'm not sure why you quoted me. I'm a big Brady Quinn fan and am quite sure he'll do very well with the Browns.

The first part is true...but it was an honest question. I was very surprised myself!

I wasn't watching the draft and just happened upon it as his name was being called. My reaction was.."WHAT?" I wondered what had taken place to have him be available at 22!!

The bigger shock was that Miami didn't take him 9th. Other than that, there weren't too many teams looking to take a QB in the first round, although rumor was that Baltimore was moving up to get Quinn and the Eagles were simply drooling.

While his pocketbook will hurt now, if he shows the kind of promise I think he will, the Browns will have to take care of him or he'll go somewhere else. Tis' that simple. Besides, he'll still do OK for himself. I'm sure his agent is the one who is a little more cheesed about that part.
