Brad Miller best center in the west?

just curious to know what other people think about this proposition. a lot of people would say yao ming, especially now that shaq's moved east. i think theyre full of crap. yao is a bunch of hype and PR at the moment. he isnt putting up the numbers that brad is. yao isnt giving the rockets 4-6 assists a game. he's not scoring more than 20 a game. he blocks a few shots here and there, but he's not real strong. i think yao's got the potential to be the best center in the nba, post-shaq. but right now, brad's shooting a really high percentage form the field and free throw line, and after tonight's game, he's averaging at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. i say brad's the most effective center in the western conference at the moment, and i have reason to believe he will remain so. am i missing somebody? is there somebody out there who's better?
 
I only have seen Yao in the game the Kings played--but he looked pretty unstoppable for the most part. It seems like the Rox have been struggling though, so maybe Yao is still pretty inconsistent...

In any case, Brad is certainly putting himself in position for yet another All-Star berth.

I think Brad is often underrated by TV sports weenies and media twits.
 
Brad is more than a center because he plays the P4 better than the center spot. He is more comfortable at 3/4 key than under the basket, and I wonder how many of his current stats are acquired when he is more than 12 feet out, like Web plays now, probably most. But what is greatest about Brad that Bibby, Web or Peja don't have (but DC and B-Jax do) is that mean streak of defense, that put-your-body-out-there attitude that wins possessions and gets possessions back.
 
When Yao gets healthy he'll easily be the best. Brad should be the next guy though, and could well be looking at another All-Star slot.

One thing about Brad this year though -- he has not been a dominant force on the boards yet. Has to pick that up, especially on our team.

I hope we do not have any all stars this year. Just remember what happened to Brad last year. The guys are playing heavy minutes and could use a weekend off this year.
 
I honestly think Brad is underrated - or I don't know if it's just me because he's not surrounded by the hype that goes with other more prominent names in the C spot (not only in the West). But I believe he's one of the best centers and definitely deserves an All-Star slot.
 
Brad is slightly underrated, probaly the second best in the West, but most importantly he is a great complemnet to the Kings. The more he plays with these guys the better THEY look. He is great tallent and perfect fit.
 
brad is DEFINELTY going to get a spot on the AS game.

brad is underrated, but thats fine with me. yao gets all the hype, the kings win more games. i'll take that any day of the week

I f Brad can develop some semblence of a post game, and maybe hit the weight room I think he can become one of the best in the league. Yao has much more talent that Brad does, but Brad seems to be the more intelligent player of the two.
 
No, Yao is quite obviously better all around player. Miller has passing on Yao, but that's it. Yao's the better scorer and the better defender.
 
Mavs fan here and I would have to give my vote to Brad Miller. I just don't think much of Ming, he is a lot of hype. He has a lot of really crappy games and some great games that shows flashes. A lot like Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

For us at least, with Dampier and Dirk, it is a lot harder to matchup with Brad Miller. Brad spreads the floor, he can pass it, and he is a better rebounder, the stats will soon show it.
 
Until Yao Ming starts to perform like Michael Olowukandi, he's the best center in the west. Call him inconsistent if you want, but if I had to choose between him and Brad, i would have to choose him. He proved he was worthy of the hype in his rookie season a la Lebron James.

Brad is definately the next best option now that Shaq is gone though.
 
Brad is just more reliable come playoff time. He is a fighter and when the playoffs come you have to have that. Ming is more talented, sure. But he is not a better basketball player than Brad.
 
well if you are asking me you know what im gonna say...but the media hounds are definetly gonna put yao at number one and than Brad at two i guess

but i agree with Variant...so far he is gearing up for a trip to Denver for the All Star game

Umm All-Star slot? Aren't we only 7 games into the season?
 
Although I LOVE Brad, I think his numbers are so high because of the offense we run. He doesn't face double teams throughout the game. If Yao could play Brad's style (popping out for outside jumpers) in the Kings offense, his numbers would be absurd.

well, yeah...just like if brad had a quality post game his numbers would be absurd. i consider brad the best center in the west because of the impact he has for his team. he may not play like a natural center, but the numbers are there....and they were last season, too. with vlade gone, and o-tag getting limited minutes, i think we can fairly say that brad miller will be given the nod as backup to yao at the all-star game.

I hope you are right. Brad deserves to be an All-Star again. I was thrilled last year that he proved his previous selection wasn't just because he was in the Eastern Conference.
 
Yao Ming has one big drawback, IMHO. He is strictly limited on how many minutes he can play because of his lack of stamina. That could really be telling later in the season...

I don't care where Miller is ranked, quite honestly. He's the best center for the KINGS right now, and that's all that matters. He fits extremely well into our style of play and when he and Webber combine their efforts, it's beautiful to watch.

We've had this discussion BTC (before the crash), but the timing of the All-Star game for basketball stinks. You get players going for nothing more than a big popularity contest, risking serious injury and for what? So people can see dunks and show-boating?

Blech!

The whole event is so full of hype, razzle-dazzle, etc. that it is no more a true contest than the old "Battle of the Network Superstars" events so popular back in the day!

You know, when the cast of Dallas met "on the field of battle" to compete against the cast of Dynasty?

One nice thing that Brad is doing this year is mixing in a few more drives with his outside shot. Now he doesn't always have success with them, but still it is an important bit of versatility to add. I mentioned last year that Brad's offensive game is largely the game of a roleplayer -- open standstill jumpers. That's the classic roleplayer shot -- hit it if you're open, but you can't force your offense. The other team gets to dictate whether you score or not (either they leave you open, or they don't). Mixing in the ability to drive, even if its not always effective, is giving Brad the ability to attack a little more this year, and is also probably opening up his jumper a little further.

He's still not better than Yao though. :) (and I happen to think Yao is a little overrated because of stamina and inconsistency -- still post game, size on defense, and a much better set of passing skills than he gets credit for (nto entirely sure in our offense he woldn;t average nearly as many assists as Brad).

Which event? The one where the scantily-clad women of Dallas beat the scantily-clad women of Dynasty in a nail-biting contest of tug-of-war (with the loser being dragged through a mudpit)? Or perhaps the one where the scantily-clad women of Dynasty were able to stage a resounding upset in the battle of "water balloon" target shooting, where the opponents (the scantily-clad women of Dallas) were the targets??

Sure, why not? If he continues to play like he always does.

Then again, thinking back, like some have been pointing out, maybe it's better if he sits it out... No use tempting bad luck again! :D
