The guy is amazing.

How do you go from scrub-bust into a versatile triple double threat in the span of one year.

Tonight he has a triple-double with 24/10/10 the night before he has 18/9/11.

Add to that he's a 6-8 player that can play any position you want him to play.

And people wonder why the Hawks are such a pathetic franchise.

I just thought I'd open a thread about this guy.

Once he gets eny resemblance of a reliable offensive game, he's gonna be huge.

Im calling it.

But I just dont see how the Hawks didn't see this guys skills...Being with Nash couldnt have magically givin him rebounding/passing skills, along with his amazing versatility...I just don't see how the Hawks couldnt see those qualiteis that HAD to have already been there.
 
steve nash definitely makes the players around him better, and that spillover effect is great for young guys. it gives them serious confidence. i have no doubt that diaw would not be where he is if he didn't play alongside nash. but i also have no doubt that he will continue to flourish even when nash is gone. steve nash has helped set the groundwork for a young guy like boris diaw by playing unselfish ball. he's so creative and crafty, and he can get the young guys involved. that confidence factor cannot be underestimated. just look at the difference a bit of confidence has done for kevin martin and francisco garcia.

atlanta doesn't have a floor leader like nash. as a matter of fact, they have no floor leader at all (passed on chris paul, i believe). diaw would likely have been lost among the likes of joe johnson, al harrington, and josh smith.
 
From what I understand Atlanta used him wrong, they played him at the OG from what I understand from a friend that's a Hawks fan. The Suns play him between the wings and center.

Oh ya, and this guy called Steve Nash is there.
 
The guy fits perfect in the system they have. Here's a question, what other team in the league could this guy play the C spot for and get away with it?

Not gonna happen, they outscore their opponents in turn putting up great looking numbers. Diaw is a very good player, but image Lamar Odom in that system.

Yeah because we all know Diaw lacked court vision and rebounding instincts before he met Steve Nash. :rolleyes:

If I'm not mistaken the Hawks got Joe Johnson for Diaw. Hindsight is always 20/20. Johnson was coming out of a breakout year and still is a solid player. Diaw is good but wasn't moving along in the Hawks system. (if you want to call it a system). The Hawks have some solid young athletic players, if they keep them around, sign or draft a good PG, and a veteran free agent all star they could be decent. They have the cap room if I remember right to make a big signing.

I think this is a case where both teams and players will benefit. Diaw has clearly found a place in Phoenix and Johnson will continue to put up numbers in Atlanta.

They also got 2 first round picks (ouch). That's what's going to hurt Atlanta. Yes FA are nice but they are usually overpaid. Although, Atlanta really doesn't draft very well.

They drafted, Childress (solid), Smith and Marvin who all essentially play the swing like Harrington and Johnson but they are all very talented.
 
Role players can't fill a role when they're on a horrible team without any direction. There's no franchise player to set the tone and lead on the court and those type of teams usually don't have much of an offensive system. On the other hand, a team like the Suns has some really nice pieces already in place. Take that smart, talented and versatile role player off the lottery team and plug him into that situation with a winner and the game becomes much easier and much more fun for him.
 
And now here's some potential fun for this argument.

Steve Nash sprained his ankle in tonights game...

Im not sure if he'll miss time, but if he does lets monitor Mr. Diaw's stats.
 
If Nash is out, Diaw's assists should take a nice jump. He would take over even more of the ball handling duties.

It's a gosh darn shame that he only has 3 position elibility in most fantasy leagues.
 
I never thought BORIS DIAW was this good. I'll have to wait to see his numbers next season to make my judgement.
 
No Steve Nash, no prob...

19/9/9 while playing the ever traditional position of point-center...Hit 8/14 shots.
