Boogie, Karl, etc. from an unbiased POV

I'm shocked that the Kings still permit Grant to be on the radio talking like that. Seems to me they could easily strong arm him out of that job. Just insane how our freakin play by play guy, the "voice" of the Kings spreads so much bias, hate, borderline slander, and baseless ridicule towards our franchise piece. Are there any other situations like that around the league?!

I despise Grant's outlook typically, think he is an arrogant douche, suspect he hides from real critical calls.

But he does a decent job with the fluff still. Has a good radio voice. I view it like second grade half attention span rambles.

Well, mostly acknowledging that there were hypothetical conversations about trading cuz. Why say that in the press when we finally have some momentum building towards healing the dynamic and team chemistry.

And of course implying there will be further ones, all while never admitting there should not have been first ones.

Which is to say that for a loyalty first guy like Cousins, Karl just, intentionally perhaps, keeping tension high, playing power games. At the time it happened somebody argued with me over whether the first "nobody is untradeable" thing was just innocent language, or a shot across Boogie's bow. And with Karl it was quite obviously the latter. And because again we're talking Karl, this sort of thing sniffs of possible 'better keep inside the lines Cuz because we talk and will talk and if you think you're immune you're not".

Barring Karl getting a lobotomy its ironic that the exact mechanism that could scuttle our 10th straight season is so obvious and so much right in front of our faces, and yet we're going to walk right into the fire.

I think you can look at it from another angle:

There is no use to denying that things have happened (trade talk) but this way he is rationalizing that most of what is out there is exaggerated and full of hyperbole. It certainly isn't impossible that if you want to win you have to explore all the available options. That doesn't mean it was seriously considered beyond "what if".

I think if both of them accept professionally that they both want to win and therefore set their differences aside, they might realize that they can both benefit from each other. Karl having a (likely) HoF caliber player in his prime, and Cuz having (finally) a legit and proven coach who has almost always gotten to the promised land (playoffs)....once we get there (this year), this team will rock and surprise. We are now full of Veterans and winners to get us far.

Go kings!

Kings refused to hire his son, they refused to trade boogie, haven't signed any "typical" Karl type players and didnt go after his old crew like he was hoping. I think we are forcing him to walk before all is said and done. The "with cause" rumors that were out there sure got muffled quickly but sounded very legit

Oh I dunno, why add to the drama, when it is a put up or shut up scenario?

Agenda, I'm not so sure, but cozy?

Nah it aint cozy, do your job, the talent is there.

What's certain to this point in the off season is that Vlade constructed a team HE thought was best around the talents of Cousins and Gay without any input from Karl. This is Vlade's decision to make and he had it right from the get go to not have Karl have any input on player personnel and just go out there and coach with the talent that's been given to you. Vlade has done his job, now it's time for Karl and the players to do theirs.

All cool. and Karl is a talented enough coach to take this roster and make something of it.

But the problem is that Karl has a big ego, has always believed that his job included control over "his' personnel, wouldn't admit it even if he came to see the error of his ways there, and has never shown any ability or willingness to just step back and coach. He's his own worst enemy. So he will keep on poking the bear, keep on trying to manipulate the situation and play politics, and you can never just rest and settle in with no worry about drama with him.

Good read here on Karl re rift with Cousins and his thoughts on the free agency moves. Don't know if it has been posted in any of the threads yet, but you can read the full article here.

"I want to talk to Cuz," Karl said. "But the situation, because of how it got, I think we've got to be patient to get to that point. ... I trust Vlade. I don't know when it will be or how it will be, but I think [the meeting with Cousins] will happen."

"The decision to rebuild the team with veteran guys, I think, is fantastic," Karl said. "I think putting a culture in Sacramento is what I want. That's what I'm used to in Denver -- intensity and getting better and players loving the game and enjoying the game. And I think we picked up players that are not only talented players, but love the game and want to play the game the right way. So I'm not going to let the atmosphere of doom diminish my excitement. We're going to have a hell of a year.

If it comes to that...then I have the utmost faith in Vlade to make the right basketball decision and relieve him of his duties AFTER this season. I don't want to see a mid season firing and realistically, I don't think we will.

That full article puts comments in perspective. I do not see anything here that Karl said to deepen the rift between him and Cousins, on the contrary.
Beside "I am not authorized to discuss this" quip, this interview is the second best interview he gave.

Do not know how long it will last, but since the draft his behavior was very acceptable.

That was actually one of the most interesting quotes in the whole interview and one that is tough to interpret in a written interview. Was this Karl joking around or was this the old coach bristling at having been given orders by his GM. The former is harmless and a bit funny. The latter is a bit more problematic but would at least show that Vlade is definitely running the show and putting the clamps on behaviors that would upset the apple cart. We'll see how it all plays out.

What quip is that? I read through the article twice and I'm not seeing it.

It was reply he gave about 10 days ago when asked about free agency moves. Cannot find quickly where it is, but the link was posted on this forum.
I was maybe not clear, I think that is the best reply he can give, but the interview he just gave was the second best what he can say on that and Cousins topic.

edit: thanks Funky
