Wells, etc. -- As it turns out, Bonzi Wells turned down two opportunities to return to the Kings.

Although it had been widely reported that the former Kings shooting guard and his then-agent, William Phillips, rebuffed a five-year, $36 million offer in July, they also refused a second offer of five years and $38.5 million, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said.

Wells -- who was seeking a contract that would pay him $10 million annually -- agreed to terms with Houston on Wednesday night, with the two-year contract reportedly paying him $2.1 million this season and $2.4 million in 2007-08 if he exercises a player option. Wells has yet to sign.

Did anyone else see that comment at the end of the SacBee story on Bonzi on Friday that Phillips pulled a power negotiating tactic on Petrie, not returning his call for a week?

It was buried in the last couple of paragraphs.

Amateurs.

Such a shocker Bonzi fired his ***. There are reasons that a lot of guys go with the David Falks of the world even with the huge cut they take and the 40 clients ahead of you.

I hope we sweep the Rockettes this year.
I liked Bonzi, but his true colors were just revealed. If he wanted to stay in Sac so bad, he would have signed after the second offer. That's good coin for a guy with a history of having a bad attitude. Blame the agent all you want, but it's the player that makes the final decision. Our organization stuck its neck out for that guy. I hope Martin's an all-star this year, and goes off on Wells for 30 points and 10 rebounds.

As mentioned before, his agent was an idiot and Bonzi should have been more on top of his own affairs.

I doubt he'll ever have close to the $$$ he would have made in Sac, even if he has a good year. No one's gonna give him a similar offer in a year IMO.

At the end of the day Bonzi can only blame himself, and also admit that the $$$ was the #1 thing and not the great situation he was in here.

He played well for us and was a good citizen, so I wish him good luck.

Bonzi is as much to blame as the agent. Bottom line, it's over. And we can finally quit having Bonzi Wells as the only topic of discussion around here.

:)

damn, I was looking forward to getting a bonzi jersey on special...now I'm starting not to care for him anymore. Too bad; guess he and Artest weren't that close. (even though they made one hell of a combo)

Bonzi took a 5 million dollar hit this year going to the Rockets and he's going to have to play his a-- off all year without getting seriously injured in order to get a Kings level offer next year. He done messed himself up good.

That reminds me of a good test to know if you're happy with something girlfriend/boyfriend, job, husband/wife, whatever. The test is, if whenever you're around the person/place/thing in question and you are not spending most of your time thinking "this sucks, oh man does this suck, this sucks...." then you're probably happy with it.

And if you are happy with something, think long and hard before you replace it because the thing you replace it with is likely to not be as good.

Bonzi had a good thing going with the Kings. He was happy, he got respect, they offered him a fair wage. How many 30 year olds get 5 year $38+ million offers in the NBA? Probably less than 1%. Most NBA careers are over by 28.
But it wasn't enough. He wasn't going to let himself be happy until he was a $10 million dollar man. Oops.

I rememember bonzi saying throughout the year many times that he would chase the dollar in the off season. What do u mean hes showing his true colors, he didnt stand around and say hey im gonna come back no matter what, he said i will chase the dollar, if im not back next year its because they didnt want me back. Now obviiusly we offered him a lot, but he decidd to keep on chasing the dollar, hes still a good guy who aided us during the course of last year, most likely more than bobby or cuttino would have, or even doug for that matter

Bonzi was greedy. It's a common flaw.

At least we have KM waiting in the wings. That could turn out to be a sweet consolation prize.

"Bonzi is greedy! Bonzi is stupid for turning the kings down." Well bonzi probably isnt that smart. Thats why players have agents, and bonzi's agent really screwed him over. I really dont know if bonzi is a greedy person, but I do know his agent probably advised him to not sign a deal worth less then $40+ million. Calling him stupid or greedy for listening to his agent is ridiculous. If your older brother(or someone you trust) gives you advice, wouldnt you listen to it?

The agent screwed himself, too, since their fee is almost always a percentage. So the agent lost money and a client. Not that that helps us any.

Good pickup for Houston, they get the same contract year (good behavior, etc) Bonzi the Kings had, for cheap. They stole that move from GP.

And bonzi/kings was just a business deal, both sides try to get the best deal they can and sometimes somebody loses. Expecting a guy to take less because he loves a city or a team to pay more than a guy is worth is unrealistic.

I'm happy with the way it worked out, I thought there was a goodish chance of either injury or sloppy behavior after getting his last big contract. 38 million is a lot of money for that risk and we have to save up to throw a max deal at artest and had Martin fixing to take his job anyway.

It's really the media's fault for writing all those "Bonzi is earning his max contract now!!!" articles during the playoffs. He was fun to watch though, right on Bonzi. At least one of the Houston games this year should be pretty intense, he's just that kind of guy.
