Bobby Jackson relieved of responsibilities?

Per Jason Jones:

New #nbakings coach Michael Malone will not retain any assistant coaches from Keith Smart's staff

Unfortunate. BJax is the ONE guy I would've kept with the organization. Seems an all around good guy, good relationship with players.

Just spoke with Bobby Jackson. He hadn't heard the news from Coach Malone. Still wants to be a part of the #NBAKings if possible.

So either Jones is premature or bad move not telling the coaches first.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the team will do away with someone like Bobby Jackson. I'm told spot with organization should exist

If Jason Jones got this wrong, I hope the Bee cans his arse. I cannot believe that Coach Malone would give a reporter that information without first talking to each of the coaches.

I strongly suspect there's gonna be some kind of walk-back by Jones. At least I hope so.

I thought it was a done deal that Petrie, Smart and the rest of the staff were being replaced.

Petrie is working through June 30th. Smart has been relieved of duties. The rest of the coaches are still under contract until the 30th.

And thinking about, the coaches were helping run the draft workouts. So for this report to come out now would cause a more awkward situation if they were planning to have them continue helping with the workouts.

Its pretty much a no brainer though. Most of the time new coach = new assistant coaches. let alone new coach, new GM, new owner. And Bobby hasn't exactly put together a sterling gotta have him coaching record to somehow magically survive the normal process.

Could see him being retained in the organization along with other fan favorites like Jerry, but the assistants had to all know/assume they were out as soon as Smart was out.

Right. We all knew this, i thought.

looks like JJ may have gotten this one right

James Ham @James_Ham now
There is no word on what if any role Bobby Jackson will have with the franchise. No longer an assistant.

James Ham probably got his info from Jason Jones.

The Kings say Jackson will no longer serve as an assistant coach but will continue with the organization in another capacity.

Maybe he'll be the new starting PG. Couldn't be all that bad. ;)

Dear lord, JJ just can't win with y'all can he? Either he's too slow with his news or the news he does break is obviously wrong and thus he should be fired. I'm not a JJ fan by any means but come on.

He could have made it clear Bobby would be staying. The official media release made it pretty clear.

IMHO it's sloppy reporting, something he's made a habit of for a long time.

To be fair, he was reporting it a full three hours before the official release, always a chance his source was unaware of BJ's future role.

Look, I loved BJax as a player but there was really no indication he was all that spectacular as a coach. I'm glad he'll have a role in the future of the organization but I honestly wouldn't have been crushed if he did not.

24 hr a day news networks began the slow death of journalism. Once getting it first trumped, getting it right the News was doomed. Twitter has just been a mercy killing ending the slow death.

Look, we always do this, but not liking a guy is not sufficient reason to pan his report when its right. And he was essentially right. And first. Kudos for once.
