Bleacher Report giving some love to Rudy Gay.

I think the guts of this article have been mentioned in one way or another by various members of this forum but it's always nice to see the info in a coherent note in one place. One thing that jumped out at me is his 7'3" wingspan. Has there ever been anyone his height with that wingspan? Of course there is no way of knowing but I will bet that since such measurements have been taken, the answer is "no."

Boy, am I happy Vivek controls the purse strings. I can't imagine him letting Rudy go. I think the Kings and the fans and the arena may also convince Rudy that there is no better place to be. Well, maybe on an NBA champ (can an NBA champ afford him?) but it seems clear that with Cuz, Rudy, and Malone we have the start of a team that can compete at the highest of levels. I am very happy we are in the era of the punitive luxury tax as the well heeled teams will have to think twice before trying to sign Rudy especially to a long term contract as they will undoubtedly go way of over the luxury tax limit.

We have a great find and we have a great chance of keeping him. Did I say he is such a gentleman? Might as well have it all, Rudy, my man. Just you and me!

For those interested, the grant land article.

Remember this quote from PDA? “We look at him differently than maybe others do. I feel like a lot of times with certain players, it’s where they’re getting the ball, it’s where they’re scoring, it’s the position they’re put in. And I think we have a good idea, we’re talking as a staff a little bit, we have a good idea of what positions that we’d like to put him in.”

I think the man might be right.

Guess who has a wingspan within a quarter inch of that?

We have him as well....Quincy Acy. Wingspan of 7'2.75" at a height in shoes of 6'7.75". We've got two of the longest guys in the league for their height...and they both use it very effectively

Thanks for looking that up. If he is going to see spot duty at center against teams where Gray doesn't match up those arms will be helpful. Cool.

Everyone was saying how much his FG% sucked when he was traded here, well as of today it is 52.6% since the trade. (and 20.76 points per game) If IT can play like a real PG and we can fix the MT hole, we might be seriously good next year.

IT cant play like a real PG because it's not in his DNA to distribute. He's a selfish player and would do best coming off the bench that way he can take advantage of his urge to score. We need a REAL PG.

Just a little note guys, but let's try not to turn Rudy's thread into another IT thread if we can.

Tom Ziller also had a nice writeup at sbnation with his "usage theory". Long story short: Gay is most efficient and effective fitting in as a secondary scorer with a sub-30 usage (as he was in Memphis) rather than a #1 option (as he was in Toronto). Link here.
