Hall of Famer
Kings are on a mini losing streak after a 4 game winning streak and so on and on in this pathetic season. We are 36-42 and Muss Junior is not going to get his winning season but he can say that he is better than original Muss. This accomplishment equals inventing of warm water. King have 4 games left in this never ending groundhog day type of season. 3 home games and a visit to city of botox in 5 days or 2 back to back sets or 4 games in 5 nights.

Coach still wants to play a role of spoiler despite playing it all season long. Doesn't it get boring ? What did we spoil other than our draft pick ? Newsflash - we don't mater none right now. Any team that desperately needs to beat us will beat us. We have a chance to get the 11th worst record if Pacers win and we don't but what is the point ? maybe we will beat Hornets, Spurs or lakers and help some or hurt some but it is Western conference so there is no dream first or any round. We will be forgotten. Maybe TNT crew will remember us when they show pictures from their fishing trips.

Not long ago we hated the long summers despite them being shorter than they are today in terms of Kings postseason or lack thereof. Now - I am looking forward to the summer as I am always every leap year because an Euro is followed by the Olympics with plenty opportunities to forget the failure of the regular NBA season. I wish the Kings a great summer which means proving once again what mid level exception can do for You as Mikki's twin brother need a contract too. Looking forward to see us draft another Hawes or Douby because what else can You get at 12-13 pick. Not looking forward to see us keep all the flexible pieces and garbage for another season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
No playoffs for us next season either. I am aware that I am not going on a limb here but I am saying this because when the training camp start we will have bunch of threads talking about our chances to get there. Our chances are as good as they were in these past 2 season = 0. Teams that are better than us aren't going anywhere yet and neither are we. If everything goes great - and it won't because this is Kings - we might win 41 games and if that happens we won't make the playoffs in 2010 either and so on and so on
------------------------------------------------------------------------
We lost to Warriors who needed it badly. BTW - shouldn't You win a game when You shoot 53% and score 132 points. Of course not - because Your opponent does the same and on top of that has 17 more rebounds. Just imagine the score if the Warriors didn't have that crappy 26 pts third quarter.

AWARD TIME

TDM - Biedrins
LW-VC - no one in a fantasy basketball dream game
JHA - A.J.
SAR - Methuselah - Mikki Moore - too bad he didn't foul out earlier

WTF of the game - Mikki Moore plays basketball
------------------------------------------------------------------
Blazers are next and they know how to beat lakers at home. Mean obviously nothing other than personal satisfaction because this is the best and probably only chance to win another one this season and to clinch the 12th pick. Joel will massacre us again but it won't matter. Kings win.

still not sure why you call theus, muss jr. he's nothing like muss

Agreed.

Those two are not even in the same zip code, regardless of our final W-L record or even if it had been the same or worse than Muss'.

This was never a playoff team, and almost every prediction here way back when, before we knew the injuries that would befall us, predicted the same. Our rookie coach made rookie mistakes, but that was to be expected. He is learning and will be better next year. In the end, Reggie had to play with the players available to him, and he did a laudable job in year one. Expectations of him will be much higher next season, but we can deal with that as the 2008-09 campaign unfolds.

Sorry, piksi, but I've been thinking the same thing. And the comment "both of them are doing the same thing just in different ways" doesn't really say much, does it?

Reggie Theus is the anti-Musselman in a lot of ways. He's learning from his mistakes, he's keeping the lines of communication open with the players AND he's showing a flexibility Musselman couldn't spell let alone utilize. I know you're pretty fond of your piksimism attitude, but sometimes you have to adjust your terms to meet reality.

Both of them are doing the sam thing just in different ways

I totally disagree and I guarantee you 90%+ Kings fans do not think Reggie Theus is remotely a Muss Jr. Half way through this season there was talk around the league (Stan Van Gundy brought it up) that Theus might be considered for NBA coach of the year having put the Muss train wreck back on the tracks despite being dealt such horrible bad luck with his makeshift roster. Coach Theus has respect of his players by earning that respect as a former player and tell it like it is, no BS mentor. I predicted before the season began that the Kings would win 36or37 games. I really can't believe they made it to that count considering the weird stuff that went down - all of it completely out of the control of Theus. Imagine if management had decided to give little Muss boy one more year instead of eating his fat remaining contract. Does anybody think he would have "led" this years Kings team to anywhere near the record Theus somehow managed?

IImagine if management had decided to give little Muss boy one more year instead of eating his fat remaining contract.

:shiver:

That was worse than any nightmare I've had since I was about three years old.

That's not an image I want to revisit any time soon.

Ooh. Then they do have something in common.

Muss came in 2nd place for COY in his first year as a head coach ('03), behind Popovich.

I am going to stand by my statement.

I put Kings first and both of them put their jobs first which I understand but don't care.

If Theus was a coach last season he would have ended like Muss.

Fact is that Theus did not use this "free" first season well enough for which he will pay down the road.

Esentially - no difference for me

If we were healthy - kids wouldn't get to play at all - screw that

And I stand by my comments.

This team was better than last year's by a good bit. Injuries/down time to multiple key players had an effect on the final W-L record. Even still, we were not a playoff team and never were. A big factor here in all this is that other teams in the West got a lot better. I saw firsthand overall more effort and hustle on the floor this season than last, several more quality wins than last year, and multiple player improvement, including the young guys.

Not sure what Reggie did not do to use his "free season well enough for which he will pay down the road". The youngsters have gotten serious playing time, perhaps not as much to the liking of some, but it did happen. Stating that the kids would not have played if we were healthy is conjecture at best, and we will never know because we were indeed majorly injured through the first half of this season. Kings are 25-24 since the start of 2008, roughly about the same time that KMart returned from injury and Bibby came back shortly after that.

???

What difference does it make where YOU put the Kings? We're talking about the differences between Eric Musselman and Reggie Theus as COACHES of the Kings, not participants on a message board.

If Theus was a coach last season he would have ended like Muss.

Care to elaborate? Musselman lost the entire team early on. Theus has had his differences with various players but he's willing to discuss them and work them out, something Musselman absolutely refused to even try to do.

Fact is that Theus did not use this "free" first season well enough for which he will pay down the road.

I'd also like to see some elaboration of this statement. As others have pointed out, Theus actually did pretty well considering what he was given to begin with AND the injuries that plagued the team.

Esentially - no difference for me

If we were healthy - kids wouldn't get to play at all - screw that

Once again, the use of the "kids" term without any kind of real definition. Which kids?

Sorry, piksi, but your arguments just don't stand up to the light of day IMHO. It's one thing to be the resident curmudgeon but you seem to be pulling some of this stuff out of thin air.

This team was better than last year's by a good bit.

Yep. I only got to three exciting home games this season after going to five mostly boring contests under Muss. All the games I went to were competitive (last year I think maybe 1 or 2 attended were mildly exciting) , the Arco fans were into it (way more than last season when midway through the 4th tons were in the parking lot) and this years Kings player effort was never really questioned (no way I could say that about Muss-debacle).

To come to piksi's (partial) defense, I'd have to say that I do get his point.

There are a dozen or two things that are very important for any coach to do. I am operating under the working assumption that Theus does most of them better than Muss did. And looking at it that way, he seems like the hands-down winner.

But in one respect -- development for the future -- he really isn't any better than Muss at all. And that is the one thing that we absolutely should have worked on this season.

From that perspective, this year has been a wasted opportunity, and no better than last year.

Of course it's not Reggie's responsibility alone, the front office has a tidy package of blame with their name on it. But, in the end, it was Geoff and the Maloofs telling the press that Reggie wasn't playing the kids enough. It should never have come to that.

It is just one spot on the draft board. But if the Pacers keep doing well... and the Blazers somehow don't stumble to the end, we could have a chance to move up to the 11th spot. Or down to the 13th.

I am going to watch this until the game in LA starts and then I will be flipping channels between the games

Good god almighty...why in the hell do kevin martin and spencer hawes think its ok to wear a headband? LMAO they look like idiots.

too bad that Brad isn't there to look like an idiot too and then to toss it in the stands while whining to the refs on one of the occasuon
