Bibby for Pau straight up

Jespher

Starter
Since Cleveland already opened up the can of worms for Bibby leaving, I suggest something that would be much simpler to get done. Mike Bibby for Pau Gasol straight up. This would make the kings a bit younger, give us a taller, more solid front line, finally give us a shot blocker, and decent defender up front to bang with Ron, and allow us a great excuse to actually play some of our young players.

Memphis is in transition right now. They are trying to push the tempo and the score as much as possible, and are destined for the lottery this year anyways, with lots of savory bigs to choose from. If Pau is still as unhappy in memphis as he was once he returned from his foot injury, then it would also satisfy him to relocate.

The problem with this trade for us is who would play point guard. I like Ronnie Prices athleticism, but he doesn't seem ready for full time starting yet, Jason Hart is in the dog house, and Quincy Douby is still raw. I personally would like to see a starting line-up of Francisco Garcia, Kevin Martin, Ron Artest, Kenny Thomas, and Pau Gasol. I know that Francisco has some decision making problems, but he brings such energy on both sides, and his heart is always in the right place, to try to improve his game and help the team win. I think that this would be a great opportunity for him to shine with the playing time he'd get with the starters, and that his energy and defense would trump our his poor decision making.

This lineup would give us a defensive identity (finally), and would be veritile enough offensively to make things interesting. This would also strengthen our bench, to be able to bring in Shareef, Brad, John Salmons, Corliss, Douby, Williams, and Price. Another nice idea, would be to start Pau and Brad, with both Kenny and Shareef comming off of the bench (where they belong).

Just my personal opinion, but I like the look of this straight up trade. Those are the types of deals that GP likes to do anyways (see Christie for Mobely, Peja for Artest, Corliss for Christie...)

Key Trade Components

Mike Bibby $12.5 Million This Year (2 more years...maybe)
Pau Gasol $12.3 Million this year (4 more years)

Kings Post Trade Lineup

Francisco Garcia
Kevin Martin
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
Pau Gasol

Ronnie Price
Quincy Douby
John Salmons
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Brad Miller

Jason Hart
Corliss Williamson
Justin Williams
Vitaly Potapenko

For those of you wondering why the Grizzlies would even think about doing this...Mike Bibby's contract gives them much more financial flexibility, he's a clutch shooter, and him paired with Mike Miller and Rudy Gay would be very potent in their ne up tempo style. They're also destined for the lottery this year anyways, and are bound to find a cheaper replacement up front than Pau's big contract.

as much as i like this trade. it won't happen because memphis isgoing into rebuild and will be looking for young talent/picks/capspace.

Is this a joke? Hey, why don't we trade him for Dwyane Wade while we're at it. Or Lebron James. Ok, that's asking too much. How about Chris Bosh. Then we'd really have a good young team! I don't think the salaries match, though. The Raptors can throw in TJ Ford.

Yeah! Bosh and Ford for Bibby! Someone call Petrie!

they might do it for Bibby, Garcia and our pick and they throw in Chuky Atkins. Since Chuky is a FA after this season they don't lose much there and they get and young swingman with loads of potential as well as their #1 pick and our #1 pick possibly giving them 2 top 10 picks in this deep frontcourt draft to make up for the loss of Gasol. Now comes the question do we do it. If we can find a place for Miller to go for an ending and hopfully a pick then we could do it. Gasol just doesn't impress me that much. If he was that great he could have won at least 1 playoff game by now no matter who he was around him.

If they turned down the rumored Jefferson/Greene/filler (I think those are the names, not 100% sure though) combo from Boston, there's no was in the world this happens.

Na, if I remember correctly the deal was centered around Jefferson.

Boston said they wouldn't trade Greene, but they even backtracked on that, according to some rumors I read around.

If the rumor was true the Grizz were pretty lame for passing on Jefferson...That kid is gonna be a beast one day.

The Bulls has Deng, The Knicks' lottery pick and an expiring contract on the table (PJ Brown); and the Grizz said that's not enough. That deal is much better than Mike Bibby alone.

There is simply no way Bibby for Pau straight up happens. If they move Pau, they want youth and capspace, AS SHOULD WE. Strange how all these other teams get the concept but we are helmed by idiots.

And for us to meet those demands, if we were even to get into the Pau conversation we would need to pony up Kevin.

Everyone has pretty much covered the "no way the Grizz would do this" stance so how about this...

This line up that is proposed sucks worse then the one currently on the floor.

Francisco Garcia
Kevin Martin
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
Pau Gasol

Wow that would be terrible.

How about this if we are going to pull off the miracle Pau for Bibby trade:

Douby
Martin
Artest
Miller
Gasol

The combo of Douby and Artest can make it down the floor and Miller can also help with facilitating the plays that we don't run.

Somehow I don't think that adding KT + Garcia for Miller is exactly sweetening the deal for Memphis. More like utterly destroying their franchise.
