Best fans in the NBA? Maybe not.

I'm creating this thread simply because of everything that has gone on the last few days regarding Bonzi, Salmons etc. etc..
I've read over and over again on this site how Kings fans are the best, most loyal fans in the NBA. I am seriously beginning to doubt it. I don't want to be completely negative, but looking at some of the threads that have had to be closed because of the blatent ignorance of them, leads me to believe many fans here are arrogant. "Bonzi is stupid and unloyal", "how can Bonzi do this to us, he's spoilt" etc. etc. It's a game. Players move on. Teams and rosters change. Get over it. Bonzi isn't the only player that has chose not to re-sign. But just because it's the Kings he's leaving suddenly he's "unloyal, and unworthy to be a King". He was with us one year, it's not like he gave us years of service and then just left us for more money. If we were the best fans in the NBA, we wouldn't be bitching about everything bad that happens to us. Just move on. Respect Bonzi and thank him for playing as hard as he did for us. It's his life, his decision. Not ours.

Lastly, please give Salmons a chance. He could be a valuable bench player for us. He's 26, he has plenty of years left in him. Like everything else, it's a gamble. He could be a complete bust for us and a waste of money, but I don't think he will be. I think he can contribute with his athleticism and versatility and can step up his game if Bibby gets injured or needs a rest. He's also a better defender than Bibby, and unlike Hart he won't kill our offense if we need some defense at the point. I have a feeling he'll become popular with us. I'll stop rambling on now, but mods please don't close this thread. It may not have much to do with the Kings team, but it regards the attitude many fans have towards the beautiful game. If you close it, there's nothing I can do. But I don't see a valid reason for this to be closed. What I'm saying, Kings fans, is you cannot call yourselves the best fans in the world if you're going to behave like you have in the last few days. Have some class and respect for what players like Bonzi have done for us. This is not aimed at all Kings fans, but the ones that I'm talking about should take heed of it.

I'm particulalry in no postion to judge what fans are supposed to be, or how they should act. I still think we have the best fans, after all we are 'Kings Fans'. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. It's only normal for acriminmonius debates to ensue after these kinds of situations. But that's what being a fan is all about, imo. Bottomline is we all love our team, otherwise what the hell are we doing here.

Having said that, I wish Bonzi well, and I'm excited for the prospect of Salmons and our young core.

I understand how everyone feels. I know that in 1997 no one here would have really giving it much thought about this signing. But once we got spoiled between 1998-2005 we could never see ourselves with mediocre players, We need the best of the best. Hello, every team and every fan wants that. But, I know the KINGS FANS will appreciate this current team. Good Luck to us all in 2006-2007. Welcome to all the new players.:D

Not terribly fond of this particular tactic, I must say.

Being a "good" fan is not, in fact, conditional on happily swallowing every little pill that the team feeds you. I'm not happy with the moves made so far this summer. I've not been happy with a number of the moves made for the past several years. I still love this team, however, and I'll still be rooting for them on opening night.

Also, it seems pretty silly for anyone to question the validity of one's fandom on a message board. I don't know too many people who take the time to join such a community and discuss something that they're kinda, sorta, but not REALLY interested in.

Yes, because I don't think Salmons is the second coming of Christ I am a bad fan. In fact, why don't I just join the Lakers bandwagon.

People who opposed the dumb move have given clear and concise reasons WHY they opposed it in many threads and we are insulted for it time and again. One of those with this opinion just happens to be a moderator of these forums and has been around for many years.

GoGoGadget said it quite well.

I see what you're saying.

And I can't really disagree. Although I don't always have a smile on my face when I think about the Kings these days, I'm still supportive and grateful for the players and staff for what we have.

I think most people are, but us Kings fans are packrats by nature, and we never want to let anything go except the most useless junk we have (Keon). Feelings get hurt when a player we like and are on the borderline of LOVING moves on to somewhere else.

It's all part of sports, though, and you'll find it on any message board of any team in any sport.

I didn't say it was. I said less of the attitude to the people that called Bonzi "unloyal" and "unworthy" just because he didn't resign. It's as if you all think it's easy to make a big trade. Would you rather Petrie tries to look for the right deal, or just sign the first player that comes along? Cause that's where alot of your attitudes are at right now. Petri may have negiotiated several trades that would have brought in defensive big men, but had the trade rejected. It's frustrating when people say "I'm not happy with Petrie", "fire Geoff". It's childish. You don't always get everything you want. Some fans on this board just can't grasp that it's not as easy to make a good trade as they think it is.

I didn't say that either. Are you trying to start an arguement or get this thread closed? I didn't say anyone was a bad fan. I didn't say Salmons is the second coming of Christ, either. I quite clearly didn't say it was a good move, I said give Salmons a chance. Tell me, what's wrong with that? Some fans are extremely childish.

wtf? is this thread for real? when did caring enough about your team to voice your opinion (positive or negative) start meaning how little one knows about being a fan? who the hell are you to insult my loyalty to the kings? the only thing childish is to judge others who don't share your views.

The name of the thread, which you started, is "Best fans in the NBA? Maybe not."

Perhaps your initial post didn't specifically call anyone a "bad" fan, but the implication was there. Those of us who aren't willing to blindly show our support to Salmons, or the moves that got him here, are not as loyal or as dedicated as those of you who are. And now we're childish, as well.

Please don't throw out comments meant to insult a good number of people on this message board, and then assume we're too stupid to realize we're being insulted.

Or, if you do, at least stand behind it.

you might not have sad "bad fan," but you sure as hell insinuated we're not loyal. just because i'm voicing my displeasure over the salmons signing DOES NOT mean i am averting my eyes to kings basketball next season. in fact, i think supporting and rooting for the team DESPITE not agreeing with their choices on personnel makes me a VERY loyal fan.

you want me to cut slack to petrie and management, because "it's not easy to make a big trade"? cry me a river; it's their JOB. and they can mess up time to time, and we will criticize them for it, but i still support them and this franchise.

bonzi said he wanted to be a king. he said he didn't want to move. obviously he lied and wanted more money. there is nothing wrong with that, it's understandable. but this is clearly a case of him not caring about sacramento, and i don't think fans are wrong to be disappointed with it. he flat out LIED.

Oh, man. Someone close this thread. I did NOT mean to insult anyone. I know what I meant and I did not mean to insult anyone so GGG don't say "Please don't throw out comments meant to insult a good number of people on this message board, and then assume we're too stupid to realize we're being insulted." I did Not mean to insult anyone for the third time. Sorry for whatever stress I may have caused to you or anyone else on this board. Jerryaki - "in fact, i think supporting and rooting for the team DESPITE not agreeing with their choices on personnel makes me a VERY loyal fan." Ha. Shows how disillusioned you are. That alone does not make you a loyal fan. By the way, I never called (or implied) that you, or any other fan, is not loyal.

And again, jerryaki - "you want me to cut slack to petrie and management, because "it's not easy to make a big trade"? cry me a river; it's their JOB." Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that's their job. So, just because it's his job that makes it easy. That is ridiculous.

Anyways, I apologise to jerryaki and any other fan I have insulted in some way. It was not my intentions, despite what you think. Once again, sorry.

^ that is utter bull. you apologize right after calling me disillusioned and my comments ridiculous?

so what by your definition is a loyal fan? my buddies here in new york who bleed the knicks, they criticize their team every f*cking day, and because they're now swallowing isiah's stupid antics or grinning and smiling and "giving everyone a chance" they're not loyal?

it is their job, and that's why they're getting paid millions. i'm still going to call them out if i think that they've made a mistake. of course it's not easy. what do you want from all "loyal" fans, unending encouragement? milk and cookies? what?

"that alone does not make you a loyal fan." hey, instead of calling me out on my supposed un-loyalness, why don't you just give me a chance?

such utter bullsh*t that you didn't mean to insult anyone, the spirit of your post was quite clear. rather than start a post, why didn't you just PM the parties who should "take heed" at your lovely message?

OK. I'm apologizing now. I'm sorry. No other comments towards you. Just I'm sorry.

D-Mass "But...isn't he???

Sure, it may be his agent, but there's certainly no sense of loyalty and selflessness in that camp.Today 08:08 AM
No, I don't think he is being selfish. In his eyes, maybe the Kings organization is being unloyal to him. He helped us give the Spurs a series, and now we don't offer him the contract he feels he deserves. What's to stop him thinking the Kings are unloyal to him. I'm just trying to get people to see it from both sides. No more insults (not that I tried to insult anyone).

accepted. problem solved.

everyone on this board is in my opinion a loyal and passionate fan; who else would spend their time going around a sports team message board? there's going to be a wide range of views; what i particularly took offense at was the suggestion that just because certain fans on this board (the same fans who welcomed me into the kings community more than a year ago and who bleed purple) have differing opinions they were "unloyal" or "bad" or whatever.

cheers.
