Best draft of the night - Joe Crawford to LAL

Was there anyone who didn't roll on the floor laughing when they heard the Assistant Commissioner of the NBA announce with a straight face:

And with the 58th selection of the 2008 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers pick Joe Crawford.

You know, at least they're finally coming out and just making it obvious to all concerned.

;)

The best part wasn't the announcement, however. The best part is yet to come...

It seems the young Joe Crawford had something to say about his selection:

When asked about being drafted by the Lakers, Crawford responded: "oh, great... I'm a SG and I have to be drafted by the team that has THAT GUY... like I"ll get any playing time over the next 5 years."

Now is that the best part? Oh no, fellow Kings fans. The absolute BEST pat is that a goodly number of Laker fans are madder than hell and ready to tar and feather the poor guy for DARING to besmirch the image of their hero. What you say?

Yep, it seems the most common response on at least one Laker board to Crawford's comment has been to call him a hater, demand he not be signed, etc. Apparently Kobefan doesn't have much of a sense of humor and is highly insulted that a newbie would deign to call their hero "that guy"...

And people wonder why so much of the league dislikes Laker fans.

And no, we aren't going to link to the board in question.

:)

I think its cute that the 58th pick in the draft actually thinks he's going to be with the team that drafted him for 5 years :)

When your team starts winning you start getting bandwagoners and you start getting some not so basketball smart fans start rooting for their teams. So you will get a spectrum of fans who become vocal with a succesful team, even with not so successful teams you will start getting them.

There will also be some basketball smart fans who take really polarized views about certain things and certain teams, its part of the game.

I dont think all of those or any other obvious fact is the reason people dislike the lakers - it is just that they have managed to stay on top for a long time and that would mean that the teams they would have beaten would be pretty to close to all of the teams in the nba and importantly western conf. When you dont like the team, its lot easier to dislike the fans of those teams.

Its not like your teams fans are above the ordinary and we see the proof here on this board everyday. I am not even talking about non-kings related discussions, just kings related discussions have been closed and kings fans have been banned for fighting with each other. All fans are like that, when you like something you get little passionate about that you express differently, doesnt mean its right or wrong.

I wouldnt have bothered to anyone else's post about other fans, I just didnt expect it from you. Well atleast now we know :)

Nawwwww.

He also didn't join them until 3 or 4 seasons until after he was drafted which is probably why he slipped so long. Nowadays you see teams use these second round picks on guys that are under contract in Europe for 2-3 more seasons so a first round pick is a waste. I guess this was a joke post so its all irrelevant, but the player in question was supposedly upset that he wouldn't be able to get minutes and make an impact. In either event, Manu is certainly the exception to the rule.

Oh you're not a joy killer at all. In fact, if it was a joke by the OP that makes it even better. The funny part is how irate some Laker fans got at the thought that a newbie like Crawford might dare make a humorous comment about the Brave Little Soldier.
