NOTE: This article, on the front page of the Bee's special tip-in section, has pictures of Vlade Divac, Chris Webber and Mitch Richmond going down the left side (the gallery of greats). Across the top of the page are pictures of Mike Bibby, Ron Artest, Kevin Martin ... and at the bottom Brad Miller. They are, I suppose, "Musselman's team"... No picture of a starting power forward. Instead, there's a picture of Coach Muss standing in front of an easel...

Will Musselman's team join the gallery of Kings greats?

How big of a mystery are these Kings?

Just how blank is their canvas?

Ask the question this way: How deep do you want the mystery to go?

With the starting point guard injured and the coach not only new but already living through his first Kings-related crisis, this year's model is fast becoming versed in the ritual of uncertainty.

But the Kings of 2006-07 also enter this campaign steeped in the local history, mindful of what has come before. They are the first team of the post-Rick Adelman era, a span of eight seasons that produced eight consecutive trips to the playoffs and a sense of heightened expectation for a previously moribund franchise.

Included in that total was last season's improbable turnaround, a 26-12 sprint to the finish that came after Ron Artest arrived in a trade and propelled Sacramento to a first-round date with San Antonio that lasted six games before the Spurs prevailed.

Now Eric Musselman, the first-year Kings coach with a charge of driving under the influence already on his brief Kings résumé, attempts to add this season's edition to the roster of successful Sacramento entries.

And right off the bat, he will do so without injured guard Mike Bibby.

Mystery? All you can handle, absolutely.

Things will work out. WOW the drama that is the KINGS!!!! OMG
I guess we'll just have to wait and see, I think we'll do good, not as good as if we had what we need as in a rebounding & shoot blocking 4/5 guy, but we've been without that since Vlade and we have went to the playoffs 8 years in the row and put a real scare in SA. I'm very hopeful for the team with Kmart exploding and doing great, Bibby being lean and mean, playing some D, Brad being the fit he's been in a long time (US Team), Ron hopefully playing a full season after giving us glimse of what he can do coming in for the 2nd 1/2 of last season. Things should be good. Also Ronnie Price taking over backup PG and Salmons filling in the gaps 1-3.....TUNE IN, HOLD ON TIGHT, THIS SHOULD BE QUITE THE RIDE!!!! :D
