BEE: Q & A With the Maloof's about the Kings/Finances/Monarchs

This is the most insightful interview I've read concerning the Kings since Petrie was interviewed a few years ago. The admission that they blew it by postponing the rebuild for a couple of years was refreshing. The more expanded role that Walton will have with Cousins was intriguing.

In particular, the Q&A surrounding the Kings financial picture was very interesting. Here they are significantly under the salary cap, and yet they are just close to break even. So if they spend significant money on FA now, they would be significantly in the red. And unless they can significantly increase ticket sales, they will be significantly in the red next year if they spend big $ on a FA. (Maybe the new CBA will change some of that; I don't know). Looming in the background, of course, is the stadium issue. The Maloofs offer the prospect of nabbing a high priced FA, but say it's probably not this year. They offer the prospect that it will happen, though, sometime in the future. I've got wonder though: the Collective Bargaining Act, the decision on the stadium, red ink at the Palms, and a current break-even budget with the Kings, are several reasons why a big-ticket FA acquisition might not come about.

The Dead aren't touring anymore, right? If I remember Walton as a player, (and I don't, because I'm a little young), his skill-set and Cousins' are pretty similar. Good for him if he can provide anything. I'll take Cousins as Walton, and Whiteside as Olajuwon anyday of the week. I wonder if Hakeem is still mentoring Whiteside...

I've never heard anybody talk with as much specificity on the footwork of blocking a shot as Walton. Remember, he tutored Shaq for quite a while. The more he works with Cousins, the better.

Confusus say that any man that uses the word significant in any form more than three times in a paragraph, will significantly reduce the effect of the significance of the word significant, and will thereby be significantly ineffectual in making a significant point. I hope you can appreciate the significance of this and significantly reduce the use of the word significant.:D

I thought he was just going to be an announcer. I had no idea he would be working with the players.

Walton was one of the best passing big men to ever play the game. I think Cousins is a little more physical player than Walton was, but there are certainly parts of their games that are similar. Its too bad that Walton was brittle. He could have been one of the best ever. Maybe he was anyway.

Yeah, it was probably time to break out the Thesaurus. It is an important source of synonyms for an important article of an important subject and I might add, an important team.:D
