Bee: Kings seek lucky bounce

Someone asked somewhere today who was going to represent the Kings at the lottery drawing. According to tonight's news, it will be Phil Maloof. Interesting because Phil is the one brother you don't normally even think about when you think of the Kings...

I seem to recall that back in the day we always sent Chuckles (Jerry) to sit there and grin for the cameras.

But sending one of the brothers, and it being Phil, isn't a huge surprise for me. Its facetime for the Maloofs, but I think that Joe and Gavin have a real burr in their saddle, because remember they don't believe in getting bad to get good, and apparently thought that they were going to be special, like the Yankees or something, and never ever ever have to have a losing season. I'm sure they would view this as a humiliation, particularly since their own decisionmaking played a major part in leading to it. So how to maintain the Maloofs as the true faces of the franchise without having to go and feel embarrassed? Send good 'ole Phil as a representative.

George I would have understood. Bringing Phil in just seems a little strange since he's never been involved to any real extent with the public workings of MSE.

Edit: Or has he? I guess your logic makes sense, however, Brickie...

Because my curiousity got the better of me:

PHIL MALOOF
Phil Maloof is an executive vice president with Maloof Companies and the point person for the family’s newest business ventures, Maloof Productions and Maloof Music.

Phil-Maloof.jpg
A former senator for the state of New Mexico, Phil was one of the youngest elected officials in the country, appointed to the New Mexico State Senate following the election of Mayor Martin Chavez, and subsequently re-elected to a full four-year term from his west Albuquerque district in 1996, before running for U.S. Congress in 2000.

Phil was known for his tough stance on crime while representing New Mexico, becoming the first state senator in the country to sponsor the Three Strikes, You’re Out law, in addition to helping pass several bills aimed at improving school funding.

An outstanding all-around athlete, Phil played quarterback collegiately at New Mexico State, before earning his post-secondary degree from the University of New Mexico.

Phil resides in Las Vegas and also has a home in Los Angeles, where he works to develop Maloof Productions and the Maloof Music label. In addition, he assists in the other Maloof family businesses, including the Sacramento Kings and the Palms hotel and casino property. He enjoys playing basketball and traveling in his spare time.

Brick's logic does make sense.

Joe Maloof was on ESPN today about 12:05 and he said that Phil was going to represent the Kings because he was the "luckiest" brother. Not on very long but also said, when asked about Artest, that he had a great year, had some personal problems the second half, but they were excited to have him back next year. Of course, that really means nothing in today's NBA world.
Annie.

I have to watch. I dreamed we get the #3.

;)

Some of you old times may remember the summer in which I dreamt we had Brad Miller, then Petrie pulled off the sign and trade weeks later.

Well, last night I dreamt I was collge roommates with Greg Oden. Take that for what you will... ;)

That's just the way they designed it. The top 3 picks are meant to be up for grabs (in a very heavily weighted sort of way), but that's all the lottery is supposed to accomplish. In order to pull off the required order-juggling, they also had to make it possible for teams to drop a place or two. So we can get a top-3 pick, stay where we are, or drop a place or two. There is no combination of pingpong balls which can bring about any other result.

We are currently 10th.

If we win one of the three top spots via a lucky bounce of the ping-pong balls (lottery), we go there. We cannot be 4-9 because there are only 3 spots chosen in this manner (1-3).

We can be 11-13 if teams 11+ get even more lucky and grab the top spots (everyone else gets bumped higher). VERY unlikely we would go any higher than 11th, though, worst case.

Thanks....

HAHAHAHAHA celtics #5!!!!! Take that, tankers. That almost makes it all worth it.

Seattle, Portland and Atlanta in the lottery.

The chances of us dropping back was higher than us getting top 3. Of course, the benefit of jumping up way outweighs that of dropping back 1 or more spots.

All-in-all, no big surprise...for the Kings anyway. Let's hope that the Hawks get the first pick--I'd much rather see Oden twice than 4 times a year.
