Is change imminent in Petrie's schedule?
A firing and a possible hiring could mean a sibling switch.

As Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie waited for his Sacramento-bound flight at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday afternoon, he reflected on the early days of his search for a new head coach.

"I'm feeling a bit like Larry King," Petrie joked.

And that was after only two formal interviews.

A day after meeting with Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis, Petrie stayed in Southern California to meet with New Mexico State coach Reggie Theus, a former King, on Friday. Petrie said he would not comment on specific interviews, and Theus and Rambis did not return calls for comment.

Petrie has four more interviews in this initial wave of candidates. He is scheduled to meet with Houston assistant Tom Thibodeau today, former Miami Heat coach Stan Van Gundy on Monday, Lakers assistant Brian Shaw on Tuesday and former Kings assistant Elston Turner on Wednesday.

Yet Van Gundy might have become the front-runner for the Indiana Pacers job before even meeting with the Kings. According to the Indianapolis Star, the coach, who resigned from the Heat in December 2005, met with Pacers officials Friday for the second time in two weeks. Petrie, however, said he still plans to meet with Van Gundy.

"As of the moment, we're still on track as far as I know," he said.

A new, ironic twist to the search was added Friday when Houston fired Jeff Van Gundy, Stan's brother, after four seasons. According to the New York Post, his replacement will be Rick Adelman. The Kings did not retain Adelman following the 2005-06 season despite eight consecutive playoff berths.

Petrie would not say whether he would add Jeff Van Gundy to his list.

What an incredible waste of part of the front page of the sports section. Sounds like Amick happened to run into Petrie at the airport and had to try and find a way to write about it.

Petrie said he feels a bit like Larry King? That's the best quote Amick could get? What's that mean? Petrie is feeling an uncontrollable urge to wear ridiculous-looking suspenders?

Petrie wouldn't comment about the interviews he had with Rambis and Theus. Rambis and Theus don't return Amick's calls.

Petrie said they're on track, which I can envision him saying as he rapidly walked away from Amick...

...

Anyone of us here could have written this piece of breaking news. :p

Petrie is not much of a talker. For Amick to have gotten that much is great! GP keeps it close to the vest so no one can make anything out of something he says and since he never says much......... Well you figure it out.

It would be very bad protocol for him to say anything at this point with only 2 down and maybe 10 to go. I'm a happy dude for now. :)

Last year there was a little bit of criticism for the Bee running little to nothing about the head coaching search. This year, Amick seems to have some actual information. I'm fine with relatively contentless articles and minor updates (even on the front page of the sports section) just to know that we are getting the latest.

ROFL!
I didn't understand that either.

I suspect it was a reference to how many interviews he has conducted in the last couple of weeks.
