Barry on Block...

Locked On Sports - Reports coming out of Seattle indicate that Brent Barry has been placed on the trading block by the San Antonio Spurs .

The Spurs have interest in a few of the available free agent swingmen on the market and would like to get more athletic at that position.

Be kinda hard with his contract. I'd give him another season, he really started to come around in just before the 2nd half of the season. He was quite big for them in the playoffs and vs. Phoenix (including regular season).

If we werent already versatile guard heavy I'd say make a run for him.

Since we are, PLEASE dont!

It'll be interseting to see where he does end up though. Probably to a contender, that's usually how this works out, sadly. Why can't the good players get traded to crappy teams instead of making good ones better? :D except us. always trade us good players.

you know, watching barry play last season, he seems like he would be a pretty good fit for the kings from a few years ago. nice passing, good court vision, dead-eye shooter.

Oh yes -- and last summer our apparent complete lack of interest in him was baffling. He was very much a Sacramento King even without being on the Kings.

Phoenix could use him in a bad way. Don't know that they have anything the Spurs could use.

And would the Spurs really help out the team that they met in the WCF? That be kind of like us trading with the Lakers in 02-03 -- not the same amount of bad blood obviously, but would still be odd to see a trade between the two biggest rivals in the conference right now.

At this point, I wouldn't do anything to make it easy for the Spurs to do anything more to strengthen their roster. So, for that reason, I wouldn't deal with them...with our luck, it would be the one thing that allowed them to get even stronger - and possibly even bring Mo Evans on board.

Do not deal with the Spurs!!!

:D

Spurs are one of my top 3 fav teams, but I'd be pretty jealous if they got James Jones or Mo Evans. With some joy though. ;)

I think (and would rather ;) ) they should bring back Glenn Robinson, he proved up to them nicely when he came in. He even played some decent defense.

Good point.

I got this off of Realgm.com, but the source, lockedonsports.blogspot.com- i've never heard of it... just something interesting...

I wouldn't mind seeing Brent Barry coming in and giving Bonzi a break, however our newbies would have to wait another year before they see any meaningful PT.

I doubt we'd go after him, his contract isn't too good as said. If he did come here (which isn't going to happen), I'd be cool with it. Would rather have someone with more experience behind Bonzi in general. Obviously could change in October, but who knows what happens before then.

I think the Spurs should keep Barry. He really started to settle in from late Jan./February on, and was really good for them in the post-season.

Spurs are also interested in James Jones, so it could be Mo or him. I think they should bring back Glenn Robinson (which I'd rather see ;) ), and with a full camp/season, he'd be even better for them.

Do the Kings really need another swing man that can score? The team is loaded at the 2 and 3, especially if Kenny Thomas gets some minutes at small forward. Besides, he has a bad hair cut! ;)

We need a 5...

I wouldn't say having a 1-year player and a rookie is loaded at the two. Though how they are come October could change that. The three? Corliss is it. KT would be playing at PF most of the time, with a bit at SF.

I doubt Brent would be playing SF much.

Yep, our biggest need now is back-up for Brad. I also think back-up SF will be addressed, and maybe SG too.

I've heard the Spurs are actively shopping Brent Berry.

Posittives: Barry is versitle and can shoot 3's.

Negatives: Age and contract.
Negative: Defense

I guess he would fit in well.
