Balancing our roster with Indiana and Boston

If anybody wanted Tinsely he wouldn't be on the Pacers right now. That's pretty obvious. They would give him away for nothing. However, if Beno is out of the rotation than you take Tinsley's two years and keep paying him to stay home. If nothing else that saves you about 15 million dollars and you get the mid-level contract off the books two years sooner. I think Beno is a better player than a straight up salary dump would indicate though. I don't know how badly Indiana wants Tinsley gone, and it's hard to see them giving up Hibbert, but that works out well for us if they do. We still need a backup center.

Tinsley's just too big of an idiot for us to take on as a real player in our current situation -- full of impressionable youth, lacking leaders. Westphal would probably have a cardiac event if he heard we were kicking off his Kings tenure by dumping a cancer in his lap.

If we acquire Tinsley, its not going to be to play him. Its just a way to shed Beno's salary quicker. The key talent for us in any such deal would be getting Hibbert -- not an old guy like Foster, but rather a young piece that could complete our frontcourt going forward. Him we could play.

So WhAT!
I'd rather deal with that for TWO years, than Beno's wussy/untalented ways for FOUR years.

Even when Beno plays passive, he isn't a distraction in the clubhouse. I would rather deal with that for 4 years than to see how Tinsley can mess things up for 2.

Petrie's shown a history of taking gambles on 'malcontents' and they typically pay off...

See Webber, Bonzi, Jim Jackson, Vernon Maxwell, Ron Artest, etc etc etc.

All those players had one thing else in commen: Rick Adelman. Don't know what it is, but he has a way of getting problem players to play their best and not be a distraction. He is no longer here (maybe one of the reasons Artest became a problem after he was gone).

The Pacers have been trying to trade him for OVER a year. On top of that, he has only played in 39 games the past 2 years.

Tinsley's injury problems continued during the 2007–08 season; he only played in 39 games....

...

O'Brien and Pacers' President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird informed Tinsley that he is not permitted to attend team practices or games during the 2008–09 season while the Pacers work out a trade for him. Tinsley has since requested a contract buyout through his agent. The NBA Players Association filed a grievance against the Pacers on Tinsley's behalf on February 11, 2009; the Pacers, who say that they are still searching for a trade for him, could be forced either to buy out Tinsley's contract or to waive him.

You guys are underestimating how hard it's going to be to move Beno's bloated deal. Saving 13-14 million dollars and getting rid of him 2 years sooner IS a Big deal.

I think you are underestimating how easy it can be, if we find the right deal. Packaged with Noc or KT at the right time of year could do wonders. Patience is key.
