Down The Stretch…
Seventeen games and counting.

That’s all that’s left in the 2004-05 regular season—one of the craziest years in Sacramento Kings history. There have been trades—several of them in fact—controversies, plenty of injuries, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Yet here is Sacramento at 40-25, trying to chase down it fifth straight 50-win season and find a spot in the playoffs.

It’s been one heck of a roller-coaster, and things should only get more interesting over the next month.

The Kings are four games behind Seattle and the three-seed, two games behind Dallas and the four, but have Houston and Memphis charging hard behind them.

And oh yeah, did I mention they have to do it without Brad Miller? Here’s hoping the shoulders of Peja Stojakovic and Mike Bibby are broad enough to carry the load, because they are going to be Sacramento’s best chance to finish strong.

It’s going to be an interesting ride to say the least.

Payback…
Sacramento got payback on the Magic on Tuesday for the loss two weeks ago in Orlando. Now Golden State and the Clippers get their turns later this week to exact some revenge on the Kings.

The Warriors lost an overtime thriller to the Kings more than a month ago in Oakland, in which Brad Miller and Mike Bibby were monsters down the stretch. The Clippers’ lost a heartbreaker on Friday thanks to Bibby’s game-winning jumper with 0.4 seconds to go.

Both will be hungry and ready to go in games Sacramento really needs.

Random Thoughts…

If Brian Skinner were to get a new nickname, my vote goes to ‘The Principle’. For one, because of the funny Simpson’s connection (Bart and Lisa’s elementary task master is named Principle Seymour Skinner), and for two, because Skinner is a disciplinarian in the paint, making sure opponents act correctly when they come at the Kings defense.
On a side note, look for Principal Skinner to meet up with Superintendent Chalmers (Clippers’ point guard Lionel Chalmers) on Saturday when the Kings take on the Clips. I can hear “SKIN-NER” already.

Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley are so close, that when Francis saw Mobley wearing a padded undershirt a week ago on the satellite dish, he had to have one of his own. Hence, Francis and Mobley looking like twins on Tuesday.

It’s much nicer to see Dwight Howard play like he did on Tuesday instead of two weeks ago when he ripped Sacramento. He almost looked like a completely different player, which illustrates the main difference between rookies and vets: consistency.

It’s too bad Doug Christie got injured before this game—he would have received a long and deserved ovation from grateful Kings fans.

After seeing Grant Hill play in person, it’s very obvious that he is really back and a shoo-in for comeback player of the year. In fact, they should rename it in his honor. He is so quick and fluid out there, it’s like he never missed any time. Hill had a scary moment in the fourth quarter though when he rolled his surgically repaired ankle—you could see a momentary look of concern on his face until he walked it off.

Is it just me, or does Skinner get about two or three blocks in the first quarter of every game because opponents don't realize how quickly he gets off his feet?

I’m serious, when Rick Adelman wins 50 games this season, he needs to be right up there with Mike D’Antoni for coach of the year.

Word. If he gets anywhere from 53- 55 wins he should definately be COY, considering the circumstances.

I don't think he's ever been COY, which in my opinion is a travesty. Winning a championship does not necessarily make you a great coach. Rick deserves it , and I don't care what anyone else says about it!! ;)
