Artest to have surgery?

No, actually they might be more similar than YOU think. But that's neither here nor there.

My response was to a specific comment:

yeah I can't wait for the best player on our team to get traded. It worked out so well for us the last time (Webber trade)

I think the Webber trade crippled us and we're still dealing with the aftermath. An Artest trade would NOT do the damage to the team that was done by the acquisition of those "three flexible pieces." One of which, in case you'd forgotten, is still here and about as flexible as a really big rock.

An Artest deal with NY would have been fantastic last summer, when Lee + Dickau + Jones would have worked very neatly. But then they sent Dickau to the Clips, and signed Jones to an extension, leaving the franchise with only Randolph Morris ($800k) as an ender. Curry could be an ender this year, but he has a year or two worth of player options, so that's nothing one can count on, and his contract is a couple million a year bigger than Artest's, so then we'd be looking at throwing in significant filler or paying luxury tax. Or involving a third team, since I'm not sure we'd want to take the risk that Curry would decide to exercise his options.

In short, I think we already blew our chance with NY, I think the window of opportunity has closed. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're going to be forced to look elsewhere for our last-minute chance to get some value in return for RonRon.

I've been thinking the same thing. If we were going to trade Ron to NY, it should have been last summer. I don't see it happening now. He could still end up there as a free agent, but not through trade.

That Artest quote means about the same as most other Artest quotes. Absolutely nothing. Everyone knows that he has been on the trading block since last summer. Is it really a crime for him to say that he will help whatever team he goes to? I do not think any one said that he was "enamored" of Sacramento in the first place.

On top of that, this is from the NY Post. Those guys will not stop talking about Artest to NY and they will put any angle or spin on his words to show that he wants to go there. Has any other publication even mentioned Artest to NY since last summer aside from them?

I would rather have a guy that wants to win that bad over an "expiring or two AND maybe a slice of pizza" any day (and NY pizza is my favorite). I feel that they should start talking contract extention with Artest now. Kings need to decide whether he is part of the plan and nail him down if he is.

That's just it. I don't get the feeling that the Kings want to nail him down. I think they are hoping he'll be back at least 2-3 weeks before the trade deadline so they can shop him big time. Will it happen? Who knows? But, I think Petrie is going to try and get somebody for him. I fully expect Ron to opt out if we do not trade him to a team he'd like to join.

Agreed,it would be tough for any gm to wait or trust ron2x about his opt out clause. Waiting for that to happen would just hinder any plan for the future, ron is a damn good player but trading him for something good in return would be one of Petrie's plan.

So is he trying to trade TWO of our bigger players, in Ron AND Mike before the deadline?? And is Miller included in any of these offerings? KT? Cisco or Douby? We have a good handful of trade able players that we could hopefully pair up with a Reef or KT to get rid of them. Who knows...

I say we could get Balkman and expirings from the Knicks for Ron...not sure what we'd do with him(Balkman)once we got him, but its a thought. I think the Cavs probably still have interest in Mike, too...but not sure I really want Gooden, at this point.

I think pairing up players would be to our best advantage, but it is highly debatable whether Geoff can pull that off.
