Arena Finance Plan Unveiled!

I know they went against the ULI recommendations to move it west, but I think it works better this way. But part of that tunnel to the rail platforms is going to live a short life once construction starts next April or May.

Honestly, I think this is about as good a deal as Sacramento could hope to get. And I would say the terms are pretty good in favor of reducing risks for the city. Remember folks, the city will be paying 65% of the costs of building an arena it will own 100%.

All the millions the Maloofs and AEG put into this deal is 100% investment in the city of Sacramento. That's millions in investment that never comes to Sacramento without this deal.

I think this just gets better and better. :) If some council members vote against this, then I'd have to argue that they don't want an entertainment/sports complex anywhere in Sacramento, no matter how good the deal.

Somewhere today I read or heard that there are already developers calling to ask about land near the arena that might be available. That's called a stimulus to revitalization that so many naysayers want to say never happens, even though it has happened in city after city. I'm so excited, not just for the arena, but for what the whole rail yards could be someday with enough vision and political will. Yay!

Well said!

People in Sacramento who want a new arena know it's about far more than the Kings. Here in Sacramento, it's the people who think it's only about the Maloofs and the Kings are generally the folks against the new arena, beecause the majority of them aren't Kings fans. Nice video, but when it's directed at NBA/Kings fans, it's preaching to the choir.

Agreed. It's always been about more than basketball.

Looks like Rancho Cordova is trying to jump on the bandwagon now and help to finance the arena in some way. Hopefully this is a sign that momentum is really picking up, as everyone likes to be on the winning side.

"The Rancho Cordova City Council today will consider authorizing its city manager to talk with Sacramento city officials and other jurisdictions about helping pull a downtown Sacramento arena deal together."

Perhaps people are catching on to the idea that an arena plus whatever else goes in there makes the entire area more palatable for new industry. The idea of buying a portion as an investment seems a bit odd, though.
