"In what Mayor Kevin Johnson called an unprecedented event, 14 chambers of commerce from the Sacramento region announced Thursday that they support an entertainment and sports complex in downtown Sacramento.

Martha Lofgren, interim CEO of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce and Willie Pelote, assistant director for the Political Action Department of the California chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees both believe the numbers are accurate from the "Economic Engine Report: An Economic Analysis on the Regional Impact of an Entertainment and Sports Complex."

He (Pelote) added that he is “very comfortable” with what the finance committee – headed by former Sacramento Treasurer Tom Friery – is doing to make sure it is not being built on the backs of taxpayers.

Other chambers of commerce supporting the downtown arena are the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce, the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce, Citrus Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, Folsom Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, Rainbow Chamber of Commerce, Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Roseville Chamber of Commerce, Slavic-American Chamber of Commerce and the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce."

Of course this outreach to biz community and wider metro area should have be done years ago - but we know the attitude of Mayor Johnson's predessor. Now it's up to these organizations to be more than just moral support and find ways to help fund a proposed new sports and entertainment arena.

ya. He was talking about people that helped with all the events at the end of last season. Saying it was a bunch of "normal joes" getting the ball rolling.

I finally got a chance to listen to the CD show. That was very cool of him to mention those of us who helped played a small role in saving our Sacramento Kings through the Here We Stay movement.

We've done a lot of work, but we're not done yet. The hard work continues and we'll be there every step of the way.
