Are you excited....... ?

I'm always happy to have the season beginning.

I'm excited that Theus seems to be off to a good start. I'm excited that most of our youngsters are playing well. I'm excited about the possibility of Justin coming back soon. I'm excited that some of our vets are playing well enough that they might have a shot at being traded to a team where they can win, rather than having to endure a rebuild late in their careers. And, whether it's through trades, the draft, or whatever, I am excited about the prospect of roster changes, because anybody we get who is new, and who is at least a potential improvement, is going to be a very welcome sight. Not only because they will be a hope for the future of the team, but also because that means we will have turned a big corner. It will mean that the front office has begun to learn from their mistakes. And when that happens, there will be nowhere to go but up.

Not so much

I was somewhat excited at the 49ers early on this season, but they've become nothing but depressing to watch.

I am a Giants fan and they were out of it last May, which made for a long summer for baseball.

Now, I was looking forward to basketball, since it's my favorite to watch as a fan. I feel like I jinxed Bibby. I was watching the game against Utah and thinking, "My, it's nice that Bibby is healthy, unlike last year."

Sorry.

I am looking forward to the NBA. It is my favorite sport. As far as the Kings, I am hoping beyond hope that this team is competitive, exciting and fun to watch. That is all I am asking for. Winning is not a priority for my in 07-08. Therefore my expectations are tempered.

What I am concerned with though is the level of participation on this board. I have never seen this board this dead at the beginning of the season. My question is have we seen the last of "The Best Fans in the NBA"? Are we bandwagon jumpers and have scooted down I-80 to Oakland. Can the passion of 99-06 return? Or is it all contingent upon winning? If it is, that makes me sad.:(

Excited to see NBA games, yeah. Excited about the Kings season, hell no.

It should be an exciting year for the Suns. All the way baby.

Ditto that. I will watch the games on TV and root for a win, but I know they are not going far this year.

I look forward to every season and then sometimes the enthusiasm dies. (I'll 'splain later)

I want to watch what Theus can do with this team. I know a lot about the man and have talked to him. I think he is a wonderful guy and hard to dislike. I am hoping the other players develop that same feeling because something is going to have to help them get through this season. Sigh! So far, I am impressed. Any coach who can get this team to put out energy on defense has performed a miracle. Now can it hold up over the year? It's tough and people get tired. Reggie might very well be the next great NBA coach but them I am very biased. :) People overlook the importance of the coach until it is time to fire someone when a team does poorly.

I am very interested in Douby. Petrie has proven to have a gift at finding shooters and Douby may be a little better than that as he has the longest arms this side of the simian species. Those arms are useful in blocking from the side and behind and in a basketball sense, make him three or four inches taller. Now let's see what experience and having a pg for a coach does for him. He's been shoved into a bad situation for a shooting guard.

I love to watch a Kevin Martin shot. It is not that he seems like an Old West gunslinger pulling the ball out of a holster but the unique swish - a little Peja-like as Peja's shots swished in a unique way. What's not to like about Kevin? Keep it up and become a star that is the center piece of this team for years to come. (Now, when was he drafted?)

I very much want to see a lot of Hawes. He's 19. Remember that and not just about the pessimism about his knees - which I share with everyone. That should never be forgotten. All I look for is to see his offensive game and I will forgive his defensive short comings as I hope his defense comes in the years to come. If he develops defense and his knees hold out, we have got a stud in the likes of my man Kevin McHale. (It took Kevin Mc many years before his NBA game came around if anyone remembers) Did I say Hawes is 19?

Can you teach judgment? That's the major question concerning Cisco. We'll see and who better to have an impact on him than an old coach of his. I fear that he will not but he could become a perpetual valued player on any NBA team if he gains control over his somewhat scattered mind. I like him as he has an all around game. I also have my doubts that he can control himself but he's young and certainly worth our patience as fans.

I have somewhat of a morbid curiosity about Brad. He's a Midwesterner like me and sometimes sittin' in a boat on a small lake fishin' and drinkin' is the best part of life and that's what I see in Brad. He's my home boy. Besides, he's lost a lot of weight and that shows a determination that I didn't think he had. Just shoot it when you are open, Brad. Grow a pair. Can a guy at his age develop confidence? We'll see.

I'll watch Mikki for a few weeks because a guy that tall and active should be able to do more than he does. However, it seems the only things missing from his game are the ability to shoot and rebound. Can he contribute to the interior defense? Maybe and maybe not.

All in all I am falling out of love with the NBA because it is so much a game of W's and L's. If the team wins, everything is great and if they lose, it's awful. There are other high level sports where I can always find something interesting even if the team loses. Not the NBA. It's hard to explain but I think I have seen every dunk, every alley opp and every 40 foot swisher to find none of that interesting. I enjoy the team work that seemed present during most of Adleman's years and last year was a predictable disaster .... and predictable if you knew anything about the Mussleman family style of coaching. Young Muss was just like his dad - better suited to college basketball where Bill Mussleman developed a name at Minnesota.

It is very much a possibility I have seen too much except that other sports still grab me interest. I'd love to feel more excited about the NBA. Maybe having no expectation of success will help.

I am somewhat in agreement here. It seems there are too many teams, too many games, the season is too long. There is too much emphasis on having the better team win and not enough opportunity for upsets (GS was exciting but really rare).

Not to mention all the negative energy from the shadow laid down by the ref scandals and - I am not even gonna say more than "etc".

I am still an NBA fan only and absolutely no other organized sport does it for me. I truly hope Stern can bring it around.

I liked the whole post but the bolded part REALLY summed up how I feel about Cisco. I want him to get it together, I just don't know if he can...

I'm also really glad you're back with us, GophersFan.

This is ridiculous! I can't remember ever not handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, since I was one. But I got a lot of kids last year.

I'm seriously thinking of keeping the lights off and not doing it this year, because I want to watch the game uninterrupted. I guess I am excited. ;)

The timer on my outside light broke, and now I can't even turn it on (true story).

Uuum, darn! ;)

Just another good reason to live in the middle of a forest.

Just cancelled Directv. Nothing of interest in Sacto these days. Unless one is drawn to a prolonged numbed status of inactivity. The style of play that once was, and the players playing for each other is loooonngg gone.

Will root for Cisco when checking the box scores, since I consider him the last "team first" guy on the squad. He may have to leave to blossom, because there are too many over-rated or overpaid guys either getting his minutes or keeping the team mediocre.

Reggie Theus!??? One and done like Musselman. Wait until Artest turns on him.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

You're wrong about Reggie. He will be here longer than one year. He has a good attitude, and good coaching style. And as for Artest, he hasn't met the likes of Reggie Theus. I'm not sure if you've realized this yet, but Theus actually has a pretty big Ego and a lot of confidence. He will NOT back down to Artest.

During the preseason Artest started to walk away as Theus was finishing up speaking. He grabbed Artests arm and pulled him back in until he was done with out breaking stride. I also think Artest respects Theus and wouldn't act disrespectuflly towards him. I honestly think that moment came from Ron thinking Theus was done speaking, but Theus wasn't.

And as for Artest, he hasn't met the likes of Reggie Theus.

You're just being delusional if you think Ron Artest hasn't met, and defied all types. Including at least one coach who's ego makes Reggie look like a shrinking violet (Zeke). In fact the only one who ever even seemed to have him in control was exactly the one who did not try to control him (Rick). And even that may not have lasted.

I do think Reggie will be here more than one year, if for no other reasons than the Maloofs need the dog and pony act for the locals, the expectations are so lowered that Reggie has an excuse for anything but complete rebellion, and Muss is chewing up millions of dollars in the background making the Maloofs considerably unlikely to want to be paying a THIRD coach simultaneously. I also think Reggie will be here a lot longer if the front office does him a favor and eliminates the lurking Artest threat.
