Are the Kings entering a rebuild phase?

Will The Kings actually commit to a rebuild for once?

Are we wasting this season? We might get a top 5 pick on all of this, and I think Perry used some of these signings to show Vivek we can't sign our way out of this mess.
Man, if Vivek thought we were a Schröder away from a playoff team...

Idk if this team is bad enough for an outright top 5 pick, unless everyone ends up injured in one way or another. But we will be in the lottery, unless we randomly rip off a big win streak. Based on this team's style of play (or lack thereof), I don't see that happening.

I mean, if we’re looking at recent examples, The Rockets are on year 6 of their rebuild and didn’t make the playoffs until last season.
OKC pretty much started their full rebuild the same season as the Rockets did (SGA was already on their roster and they had the Clippers picks but that was the season they traded CP3 to the Suns and really got the ball rolling), made the playoffs in year 4 and then won their ring in year 5.
Spurs are on year seven of their rebuild (traded Kawhi in the summer) and finally on pace to make the postseason.

3-5 years honestly might be a bit short of a time frame given those examples.

Pistons might be a good example here. Started their rebuild 2019-2020 season, took five lottery selections to climb up to 44 last season and remais to be seen where they finish for year 7 but I'd imagine mid 50's. got to hit on the picks of course, which the Kings haven't been able to do for their existence for the most part

I don't think it was that but players (notably Domas) were asking for a "true PG". I don't know why we had to overpay for one though. I do think there was some thinking that such a player would also show players work in a "traditional offense" and help move them. Again using full MLE on such a piece is confusing to me, but I get the thought process.

All that said we really aren't committed to anyone other than Keegan and the rookies beyond 2 seasons from now, and maybe Monk if his contract is actually considered bad around the league, and aside from the pick swap with San Antonio we are in good shape pick wise.

Perry on 1140 next. Doubt he says anything particularly newsworthy but should be an interesting listen regardless

I think you’re right about Schroeder, but the puzzling part for me is that it didn’t seem like anyone else was particularly interested in him in free agency. I think we could have gotten him for much cheaper, but for some reason they threw money at him when nobody else seemed to be bidding against us.

I could be wrong, but I don’t remember hearing about any other teams with strong interest.

Whitey starting with a wild ass question that Perry couldn’t possibly give a straight answer to lmao

Can't believe he couldn't be had for 2/3rds or less either, unless it was some kind of backhanded agent quid pro quo to deliver Keon later.

Scott on Keon: “there is no difference of opinion on Keon Ellis… Doug knows Keon Ellis more than I do…He exemplifies our six pillars…We like Keon Ellis here.”

Sounds like we’re either trying to push his value up or we actually do have a secret handshake agreement in place.

Heard this too... once again I'm having a problem separating the smooth talk of Perry/Doug vs what actually takes place on the court. Could not be anymore glowing review talking about him... yet he's playing the least amount of MPG since his rookie year. And you went out and signed 2 guards without cleaning any of the previous glut out.

“There’s thirty teams in this league…and even before December 15th…You’re constantly on the phone listening trying to find ways to improve your team…Trades are very difficult in professional sports.”

A big ol’ nothing sandwich of an interview. Reconfirmed support for Doug Christie. Reiterated love for Keon. Talked about being opportunistic on the trade market.

Honestly a whole lot of "GM speak" outside of him just making it very clear he has full autonomy to take the team where he wants. Which, I guess he wouldn't say publicly if he weren't, but yeah.

I'm going with "we've already decided not to resign him, no reason to be assholes about it"

I still think they will trade him. Maybe they're trying to lower the odds of him getting injured, by not playing him much

If we want anything good for Domas or Deebo or Monk, we're going to have to throw in Keon.

I didn't list Zach because he's the ultimate tank commander and we should keep him through next season to help us get another high lotto pick. Maybe even retire his jersey if he gets us into the top 3, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there!

Anyways, if we do hold on to Keon I'll be very happy for us. If we trade him I'll be happy for Keon.

Not sure why that would be the case with Monk. He still has top 6th man talent
