A Merced man fell to his death from a smoking balcony at Arco Arena on Saturday night during an Ultimate Fighting Championship show, officials said.
The 30- to 40-foot fall was an apparent accident, said Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman R.L. Davis, who said the department provides security to the arena on a contract basis.
Sacramento coroner's officials identified the man as Eraldo Cano, 26.

Davis said Cano was in a smoking section accessible from the inside of the arena about 8 p.m., when he went over the 3-foot wall of the balcony, apparently not realizing the length of the drop. The man fell on the pavement on the northeast side of the arena and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 10 p.m.
Davis said deputies are still investigating the incident and await toxicology tests to learn whether alcohol played a role in the death.

I saw this in my local paper, Merced sun-star this morning. I was curious if anyone else had parished with the same circumstances within arco's existance.

I don't recall ANY other loss of life at Arco. I know exactly the area they're talking about and it's pretty obvious there's a drop-off there. There wouldn't be any logical reason for someone to jump over the foot-thick concrete wall.

Yeah I couldn't imagine that its a common occurance. I assume it was alcohol related, although I suppose its unfair to assume that before the toxicology results come back. I know whenever I had been exiting Arco in the past, traffic was so aggressive and stressful you have to wonder how many of those people are driving after consuming too much liquor.
