Any news about Peja's injury?

Are there any news about Peja and his recent injury? It could be a huge loss if Peja can't play cuz' he was on fire in last few games...
I can't believe that Fortson again sent some player to the hospital. That guy has serious problems...

It cracks me up when I look at the by-line in the newspaper and it says Kings lose Peja to an "injured pinky". For someone who already has a label as being soft I'm sure he wishes they would have just said injured hand.

That's just awful.

I understand not being effective, but if he sits multiple games - he deserves the wuss of the year award.

You have to show up. Nothing can be done about a dislocated finger for the most part. Pop it back in and let's keep playing.

I know it's different, but when I played tight end - I can't tell you how many jammed or dislocated fingers I had. You just pop it in and keep going.

Which is what he did on both Friday and last night.

^heh yeah thats what I was gonna say...

I think he'll end up playing but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit one game the second half of a back to back...just to give it one extra days rest...but I think he should play and will

No. He didn't.

He came out of the game for minutes and then played EXTREMELY soft.

I also have to say - in defense of one of my least favorite players, Danny "Pippylongstockings" Fortson - his hit was clean. The only bad thing about that whole play was that Peja tried to go coast to coast. Foolish.

I think there might be a bit of a difference between the effect a dislocated finger would have on a tight end and a small forward whose only real contribution is the light touch on his outside shot.

I said there is a difference, but I said I wouldn't blame him for losing effectiveness. I would blame him if his shot is off and he doesn't really contribute any other way. I would have choice words for him if he sits out because of it.

Also, I've seen WR with torn up knuckles and dislocated fingers catch the next pass. That requires a LOT more pain resistance than putting your body in front of someone.

That's not the play his finger was injured on. WHen he came back he didn't shoot well anymore, but he was far from being soft. His rebounding and D went up.

Oh come on. I don't usually defend Peja in these types of situations, but anyone who's seen the game last night saw that Peja was in really bad pain.

You can't compare your high-school , or whatever you're referring to injuries to NBA ones. The NBA is about 50,000x more physical than any game you've been in.

I don't know man I've jammed one of my shooting hands before and it is extremely painful. After an hour or so it feels better BUT if someone comes along and tries to slap the ball away from you and hits your jammed finger instead the pain is twice as bad. Usually I would get on Peja about this but since I've experienced the pain I'll let him sly on this one.

Yes, it was.

He went coast to coast and Fortson went to swipe the ball. Peja got hurt again there. He came out on the next seriest.

He didn't shoot well after halftime. He was 0-4 before getting his pinky reinjured.

His rebounding didn't go up, he had a couple boards that happened to come to him ... but he didn't get in there and hustle for the rebounds.

His defense also did NOT go up. No one's did. We switched on EVERYONE and this left open players open for 3 on every defensive stand.

Peja is known to be a wuss.

First - pain is pain. It doesn't matter if it was high school or not.

Second - I played football for the University of Alabama, a top tier NCAA division 1 school, and have a ring to prove it. I also played for the Houston Texans. I am sure that I can officially say that the NBA is NOT 50,000 times more physical than any game I've been in. Thanks for trying to let me know though.

As someone who often calls Peja on his wussiness, I would say that's just taking it too far. He came back. He played. In years past he probably would have spent a week in the hospital followed by another month of "rehab" on the beach working on his tan. But he came back this game and at least gave it a go. Problem being, that if the finger is injured that's going to effect your shot, tough guy or not. And his shot is pretty much all he's got. I've played through a lot of injuries in my time, and sorry, they effect your game. The "tough guy" part is going back out there and playing, but you're rarely going to be as effective as you would be without the boo boo.

Now I DID feel it knocked him back into passivity, and that is where the "wuss" may have reentered things. We'll see tongiht -- he certainly has a built in excuse now not to even try to compete against Bowen (not that he has any luck agaisnt him even when healthy). Be interesting to see what he does or does not bring.

That's all I'm saying.

He came back, but looked EXTREMELY passive.

I'm not upset that his shot was less effective, that's to be expected. Same with dribbling. But, the effort things should go up ... hustle, defense, rotation. Find a way to contribute in other areas.

I hate getting into any discussions with you because you obviously know much better than me and I am just making a fool of my self.

By the way as far as I remember Peja was near the 3pt line, trying to fake FDF when he swiped him acros his hand. It didn't look to me like he was driving coast to coast (that was on a play or two before he got slapped)

You need to give it a rest with "Peja bashing". I don't mind it when it';s deserved but right now you are just full of sh*t.

That's very big of you to admit.

The truth is often very hard to face.

From what I watched, Peja went coast to coast and tried to lay it up. Fortson blocked the shot and Peja came down clutching his hand. Perhaps he gutted out a play or two after - I seem to recall him going out on the next series.

Wait - I say the same thing as Brick and I'm Peja-bashing?

Sorry, I don't buy it.

I'm not bashing the guy. I just think when you get paid millions to do a job, you find a way to get it done. Give it 100% of what you can.

His PINKY was hurt. NOT his legs. Not his body. Not his arms. All of those things he could use perfectly. Instead he became passive.

I am sorry but not even Brick agrees with you on this one and I don't think there is anyone harder on Peja then him.

I have always tried to come across as a bigger person, especially when dealing with people who think they know it all. Sometimes it is just easier to let them think that. I have been around here for a while and every once in a while somebody like that comes along.

I still think you have it very wrong on the play when Fortson re injured Peja's hand.

I don't feel I know it all. I just state things in that manner. You just have to get to know me as a poster.

I'll admit it when I'm wrong, especially if it's been proven to me.

It's possible.

I think I remember the commentators mentioning that play as the play that injured his hand - but I could just be imagining or they could be wrong too.

Either way - the coast to coast play was dumb. :D

I think we can all agree that the point is that Peja WAS INJURED. To win, we need a healthy Peja on the court. I personally think if he has to sit a couple of games in order to have him 100% then so be it. Its better than risking the chance of him getting hurt even worse. Sure, a injured pinky is not the same as a broken back or something but for him to be effective he needs to be able to produce offense for the team.

To win - we need to play offense like we did in the first quarter.

Granted, Peja's not going to go 9-10 on most nights - but getting the ball to the post and allowing Peja to get open from this is the BEST brand of basketball this team can play.

In my opinion, and I'm sorry if this conflicts with some tiem tested values around here, Reef and Peja are the best options on the team. Period. They are head and shoulders better than anyone else on the roster. Followed by Bibby, followed by Miller.

We need to find a way for both these players to take 15+ shots a game. The team needs to get the ball to the scorers where the scorer is comfortable .... and we need to do this a LOT more.

I have been as critical as Peja as anyone on this board.

Last night, he did NOT wuss out. He was obviously in pain, which has no relevance at all to whether or not some here would have been able to withstand that pain and more. He came back and he still got a couple of rebounds, he tried to move inside a couple of times, etc.

No, he wasn't on fire any longer and he really wouldn't have been on the court had we anyone on the bench who could really replace him, but Peja does NOT deserve some of the unending bashing he's getting in here.

playmaker - I think part of your problem is you assuming we have to get to know you and your style of posting. I think what some are saying is that among the established members of the board, your comments do appear as though they are bashing. It's not about comparing you to Bricklayer, whose comments are well founded and backed up by years and years of pretty lucid in-depth analysis.

This certainly does NOT conflict with my values. I have always maintained that Peja and SAR are the best offensive options on the team. Even more reason why a healthy Peja is crutial to the teams success.

Wait. Wasn't this thread supposed to be about whether or not Peja was playing tonight? It seems to have turned into whether or not Peja is a wuss, and how this incident provides evidence for one or the other.

Has there been any news about his status?

Nothing has been said so far, and at most they would probably say it's a "game time decision."

The noon news usually has a sports segment. If they add any new info, I'll be sure and post it...

Well, let me re-state - I am NOT bashing Peja.

If I bash anyone, it'll be RA and Wells.

What started as me saying that if Peja sits out multiple games then I'll think he's a wuss turned into something else due to the reaction of the post.

For the record, here's what I had to say (in the PBP) about the injury when it happened:

VF21 said:
Sonics ball, knocked oob off Sonics.

Kings ball.

9:17 left

Miller to Bonzi, miss, but SAR cleans it up. Bonzi was shoved, no call.

68-64 Kings

Sonics ball. Fortson called for "sticking out his knee."

Kings ball.

Peja cutting away from ball, fouled by Lewis. 3PF. Still Kings ball.

Bibby jumper in the corner for two.

70-64 Kings

Allen for three.

70-67 Kings

Peja with the ball, has it slapped away by Fortson - who apparently hits Peja hard on the finger that was hurt. He is in pain...

Bonzi miss; Sonics board.

Miller ties it up with Allen. Jump ball. Oob off Sonics.

Kings ball; someone cursing in the background about bad calls. Looked good to me.

Peja fallaway doesn't go. SAR board, Bibby three just a little off.

Fortson board.

Kings steal, Allen called for foul on Bonzi.

Peja to the bench, Kevin in. It's obvious that Peja is in a LOT of pain. Trainer looking at finger.

Kings ball. Bibby to Miller, who is hip checked by Fortson. 4th team foul on Sonics. Stil Kings ball.

SAR to Bonzi for the dunk.

72-67 KINGS
http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=219992&postcount=43

I don't think Peja was in the midst of a lay-up OR he would have gone to the line to shoot fouls, which you can clearly see he did not. In addition, he DIDN'T go immediately to the bench.
