Any desert island drafts this summer?

We've done them for so long I can't imagine we won't have one or two lined up this year. I think Brick might have had at least one draft he was interested in running that didn't get done last year, so maybe he'll chime in.

A music or films based one will be cool, as would some kind of "usa sports allstars" one... But as i said last year im extreamly interested in whatever

Well, they got discontinued there under dying interest, but the dying interest might have been the whole fanbase sputtering -- ironically one of the very things they were designed to alleviate.

Anyway, we are back, a lot more people are about again, so I certainly don't mind getting one or more organized for the summer if there are enough people up for it this time.

Last 2 that were on the list last time they died off were Music Singles II and Girls II, but really, whatever people wanted to do is no problem. Supposed to be for fun, not a scheduled mandatory activity.

With all of the optimism returning around this franchise, it does seem right to bring the old games back. I bet the traffic will pick up a bunch around here over the off season now that the Maloofs are finally out of the picture. I know they have been keeping me far, far away. I'm glad we can finally bring back the good times. LONG LIVE THE KINGS!

As for some draft ideas...

1) The common themes of music, movies, and girls drafts are usually hits, but have been done annually for some time now. How about a Zombie Apocalypse Draft
AKA you're stuck in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse and need 5+ friends to travel around with to continue to stay alive. Draft eligible candidate could include athletes, celebrities, etc.

2) In the same vein as the Author's draft last time around, a far more intellectual draft could be the 20 historical figures draft. Situation: dinner party for 20, and you...

3) We have yet to do a youtube clip draft. That could be epic, and hilarious! Perhaps even educational too...

You could do an artist one. And be liberal with the term artist- visual artist, performing artist etc.

A music album one would be good. Maybe you could do it per decade. Although some decades I would have to exclude myself.

For the past few years, the level of activity in the draft threads was in severe decline. I think a good part of it was because of the overall depression over the team and a lot of people just quit coming around.

For that reason, a return to a couple of tried and true draft topics - such as music and movies - might not be a bad idea. It could draw in some of our newer members who have never participated in an ACTIVE draft season.

And, as a twist for some of us who have participated in a lot of drafts, we might be able to do some refining. For example, if the broad draft category was movies, we might make it so that in order to complete your draft you have to have movies representing the spectrum of the craft, such as romantic comedy, science fiction, documentary, etc.

Perhaps the first step is just to determine how many people might be interested in participating at all? We can always update the old drafts. For example, my favorite was the Classic Rides draft that I ran and it's been five years for that one. People have changed, tastes have changed, etc.

Anyway, I'm up for this and I'd be glad to run at least one of the drafts. It's so incredible to be thinking about things like this instead of wondering if there will even be a Kingsfans around after the summer. :)

I'm game this summer, but I also don't want to take spots away from fresh drafters if they are interested. I'm of the Field of Dreams mind set that "if you build it, they will come". I suggest initiating a sign up thread for one or two ideas and going from there.

Not too sure about that bit, actually. I know that the increasingly complicated rules and gimmicks for some of the drafts were a big contributing factor to my own waning participation, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone in that one. It got a bit out of hand, I think, and there was more than a little grumbling about these things starting to feel more like a chore than a fun diversion. But that's just my pennies.

Add my name to those who'd be willing to revisit the drafts, though, as I've enjoyed a number of them. Especially if any straightforward movie/music/car/etc. drafts are added to the docket. As the resident art historian, I am also very intrigued by the idea of an artist draft, though I don't know how much interest there would be beyond me and the poster who suggested it.

Also, Brick, you mentioned that second music single and girl drafts were in the works, but don't you think I've forgotten that you also suggested/threatened the possibility of organizing a boys draft for the ladies of the board.

there actually was a sign-up thread for that. never got off the ground, though.

There were actually quite a few things that never got off the ground as attention and active participation in the drafts waned.

I do agree with G3 (Great to see you, BTW!) that too much refinement could be a deterrent to the draft. So, instead of continuing to debate the topic, I'm going to resurrect the FIRST-EVER desert island draft, as brought to us by Mr. Slim Citrus back in 2008. Stand by. It'll take a couple of minutes to get it posted.

Nice to see you GGG.

Blantantly copied and pasted from 2012 thread. Here's where it was left:

4) and possibly Dashing Dudes or some such, as a counterpart to the Hot Babes draft, if the ladies ever get their act together and actually put together a list of drafters.

Dashing Dudes
1) Spike
2) kennadog the cougar
3) Prophetess
4) Gogogadget
5)
6)
7)
8)
9)
10)

It was likely due to my dominance in the Babe Draft-I was looking for a challenge. ;)

Or, it was some smartass comment. Either way, I'm a man of my word. I've been working on a list.

We need to get this going, before my dashing dudes go potbellied and bald...not that Jason Alexander isn't on my list. ;)

I have SOME older guys on my list, but with pics of them in their prime. Altho some are most definitely still pretty hot as older gentlemen. ;)

Actually, I have NOT ordered a list, but I certainly have plenty of possibilities to choose from.

Edited for two important words. DUH. :p

it's okay though, I have alternates to alternates to alternates. I should not run out. LOL
