Letting Turiaf walk up the coast was the first piece of the puzzle that absolutely needed to happen to make a Ron-deal with LA go...

...and so here we are.

do you know how much the lakers would have to pay if they had matched turiafs contract?

there really isnt anyone available that the kings can trade for that would would be with the team after next season... unless they trade for josh smith...

Ahh, how about Josh Howard. Not that I want him, but he does have a few years left on his contract, I believe. I also wouldn't say that its inconceivable to resign Odom, depending on how he fit with the team.

Here's the thing. If you keep Ron you run the risk of him doing to the Kings what he did to the Pacers.

You want to be patient, but you also have to realize that the longer this drags out the worse it will probably get.

I say Geoff needs to sit tight to get us good deal for Ron, not the alternate one being discussed here.

Rest assured, despite the heavy "get the hell outta town" emotionalism from Kings fans after Ron's latest sequence of e-mails and interviews since the trade deadline, that the KINGS HOLD ALL THE CARDS HERE. We are not on the cusp of competing for a ring in 08-09, so we can be patient to let this all play out.

However, the clock is ticking in LA. The pain of this year's Finals still penetrates Laker Fan. If you are Kupchak, you have to strike while the iron is hot. You are so close ...and need just one more piece.

Me personally, I have no problem whatsoever with Ron playing out next season with us, irregardless of his recent musings and schizophrenic behavior/statements. That is just Ron. Always has been. If Ron stays put, he would be a monster on the court for us next season, playing for a new long-term contract with some team, with the only issue being can Reggie rein him in on offense so that he doesn't go ballhog-wild.

I can live with that. So, for now, sit and wait.
Well there's no doubt that Ron will be doing everything in his power to get as big a contract as possible next year. Thats part of what bothers me with him being here. I'm afraid that he'll be so obsessed with proving his worth, that the team will suffer.

My other problem is the fact that he will be taking away minutes from a younger player and taking away from any chemistry that could be built for the future, if he wasn't here. Now I know that, yes Odom would be here doing the same thing, if that were the trade to go down. But at least there's the possiblilty that he might be in the future of the Kings. There's no such possiblilty with Artest. Its also possible that Odom could start at the PF position and let JT come along more slowly. You could even put them on the floor together, and let the other team try and figure out who's playing what.

In a trade for Odom, I dont think he would take away minutes from anybody thats needs them for the future at SF. Garica is a classic 6 man to me. Not really a starting SF IMO. Also Salmons doesnt really fit in the future of the team as well. I would be all for a trade for Odom. We could probally ship him off at the deadline as well. Ironically though if that trade went down the Lakers would have gotten basically Artest and Gasol for Shaq. Gasol for Kwame who was traded for Caron Butler, then Artest for Odom. The big bonus would be getting rid of KT, who would free up minutes for Thompson and Williams.
