Andrei Kirilenko

Find someone with cap space that needs a shooting guard, have them sign AK for 6.5 mil, trade for AK47 using Thorton, Then use the 1.5 mil to sign TWill, Yeah thats the ticket!!!

he's not coming back to the nba...

Really? Todays news.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors

The Golden State Warriors are interested in signing free-agent Andrei Kirilenko, according to the San Jose Mercury News' Marcus Thompson.

"The Warriors, according to league sources, have him on their wishlist. At 6-foot-9, 235 pounds, Kirilenko doesn't figure to have the bulk the Warriors would want at power forward, but he'd fit well as a PF in a small lineup," Thompson said. "Even with that, Kirilenko is a defensive specialist and the Warriors simply just need guys like that on the roster. Kirilenko can also play small forward, which he did for years with Utah. If his game is on point, he could even compete for the starting SF spot."

As we noted earlier, Kirilenko is still drawing interest from the Brooklyn Nets, who likely are the frontrunner for his services.

That Warrior report is delusional.

Why would AK want to go to the Warriors, to "maybe compete for the starting SF spot"?

Bookmark it! Kirilenko is staying with CSKA Moscow for at least another season. He is not coming back to the NBA especially not for the $2.4 million (pre-tax) when he can play in Europe for 3 million euros (after tax). He has said that he wants to win the Euroleague title with CSKA and considering their new additions, Krstic staying and a new coach in Ettore Messina, he is not going to walk away from all that AND take a HUGE pay cut to go with it. Warriors are delusional if they think he will sign with them for that money.

If this were to happen, which I doubt it will, I'll be pissed. GS, in my backyard will have added Bogut, AK and Barnes, who fit very well with Steph, Klay and Lee, while also adding a defensive minded coach, in a strong attempt to change their culture and develop a style which wins in the playoffs, while we're doing our best to become the GS which GS themselves figured out won't win. But even without AK I'd wager they'll be better than us next year, as their talent fits.

Boris Diaw clone. Yeah, Smart will be playing him as one of our undersized PFs.

I hope not. Between Cuz/JT/Trob/Hayes and even Outlaw, there is no reason to ever play an undersized PF again.
Johnson is really the exact opposite because he usually loves to shoot, while Diaw doesn't shoot enough. If JJ keeps up his D, an athletic Diaw on offense would be perfect.

Id rather have thornton than kirilenko. Maybe im the.only one. I think thornton makes i bigger impact on the game at this point.

Errr the whole problem with Hayes is that he IS undersized. He is a 6'6" "big men".

Sure, only because AK47 hasn't played in an NBA game in nearly a year and a half.

MT only provides a bigger impact in regards to scoring and the occasional clutch shot here and there. If he isn't providing that, he's not doing much else to make an impact.

Meanwhile, AK impacts a game with his length, defensive intensity and all-around offensive game.

Sound like AK47 is coming back to the NBA afterall! Probably the Nets, but I am hopeful the Kings find a way to nab him.

We just aquired James Johnson to play SF. Were almost at the cap, so were not going to nab anyone unless its through a trade or they're willing to sign for the 2.5 mil exception for teams under the cap. No offense to anyone having a wish list with Kirilenko on it, but there's reality, and there's the dreamworld. Seldom are the two compatable.

But but but we can amnesty Salmons.

Quick question about "the cap".

If AK would sign for eitht million and ........
All teams were witin a million of the cap .......
Could AK be signed for eitht million by anyone?

Thanks.

No. Teams may only exceed the salary cap with contracts to one of their own players using the Larry Bird exception. Since Kirilenko was out of the NBA (and I believe the Jazz relinquished their rights to him) there is no team that has Bird Rights for AK and thus no team that can exceed the cap to sign him. That leaves Kirilenko in the position of looking for (a) a team with caproom or (b) a team with a mid-level exception to use assuming he'd be willing to sign for the MLE.

The Kings only shot would be if they could amnesty Salmons and sign Kirilenko but I do believe the period for amnestying a player has now passed.

now i wonder if we jumped the gun on trying to reach the cap. if ak47 signs with a noncontender or small market team, i'd be upset. personally i believe 2 years of ak47>brooks + johnson

So are there any teams under the cap that want to sign a starting SG (Thorton?) Could they sign AK47 for 8 mil and then trade straight accross for Thorton?

You can't sign-and-trade a player unless you have their rights. So Utah (if they have retained Kirilenko's rights, and that's not clear) would be the only team who would be able to sign-and-trade Kirilenko. Since the amnesty period is past, the only way we could sign Kirilenko for more than the room exception would be to trade away salary to clear cap space. It's hard to just dump a contract, but it might be possible to find a team with cap space who would take Thornton, sending back a small contract and a pick. I'd say that's unlikely. And there are almost certainly teams that have a full MLE left.

I appreciate the room exception, but I still dislike the CBA rules that penalize a team for being under the cap by taking away their MLE. Teams that stay over the cap can bring their old players back and still get the $5M MLE. We were under the cap, spent a good part of that bringing an old player back, spent up to the cap, then aren't allowed the MLE. It's a bizarre dynamic, and it hurts small market teams.

Yeah, its interesting how it turned out. I'm not sure thats what they intended, but it is what it is. I believe Section 101 is correct about the amnesty rule. I believe the deadling has passed, so thats no longer an option for us until next year. Which leaves what you described. At this stage of the game, I would think that Kirilenko is no longer an option for us, unless we could find a way to clear space, or he's willing to play for the Kings for 2.5 mil, which, according to what I read, is more than the Nets can pay him. I think all they have available is the league mininum. I'm sure there's a team out there that can find more than that to attract him.

So if we want to get Kirilenko, there may be a reasonable path, but it will cost Thornton (of course).

We could try to trade Thornton ($7.6M) to the Bobcats for Reggie Williams ($2.5M) and the Portland pick that Charlotte owns (top-12 protected through 2015, then unprotected in 2016). That would be legal for Charlotte due to their cap space and would get us an extra $5.1M to offer Kirilenko (on top of whatever small amount of room we have now). That's even more than an MLE! Of course, Charlotte has to go for it, and while they need scoring the only scorer they have (Ben Gordon) plays the same position as Thornton so that's not necessarily something they'll jump at.

Brooks/IT/Jimmer
Tyreke/Salmons/Garcia
Kirilenko/Johnson/RWilliams/Honeycutt
Thompson/Robinson/(Kirilenko)/Outlaw
Cousins/Hayes/(Thompson)

I like the look of that - the defense gets a lot better, though we still have 3PT woes, in fact more than with Thornton in town.

We have one of the most, if not the most open sf spots on any team despite having 5 sfs right now.

Johnson, salmons, garcia, outlaw, Honeycutt. Ak has never made it explicit that he would ride coattails to a ring, so you would think he wants playing time. course, if everyone's throwing 2.5 million at me, the lack of coherent team building and sad excuse for a front office here in Sac would mean there's no way he chooses Sac.

Btw, Minnesota is now somewhat of a destination for free agents now. Even with the weather, small market, and KAAAAHN, they have a reputation as a team that has a lot of promise and plays the right way. One could say it was because of the emergence of love as a force and Rubio as an amazing floor leader, but I say it started with Rick Adelman, who is highly respected among players. He puts everyone in a position to succeed and he is able to get a lot out of what he's given. One can't help but wonder what he would be a le to do with DMC and Evans.

I get the feeling with the T-Pups clearing up cap space and freeing up the logjam of Wes Johnson?!?!, they'll be a dark horse player for AK47.

it's strange, just a couple years ago so many of us believed the kings were moving on up with former ROY, a steal in the draft with cousins, and capspace. while looking down on the "pitiful" timberwolves with a team consisting of nothing but PGs, rubio not coming over, and kahn. smh

It's moot anyways. Adelman was making 6 million his last year here and making 5 million a year now. Even if there was no bad blood or pride, its pretty obvious that the Maloofs strategy is to take that money and pay 2-3 mediocre coaches concurrently.
