Andre Miller

Section 101

All-Star
So Roy is whining about Andre Miller saying he doesnt space the floor enough.

Beno for Miller straight up works. Kings take on about $2 mil in salary but get a vet who can run the team.

It's not about spacing the floor and Evans. It's about what's better for the team as a whole. Big Picture not little picture.

Not spacing the floor IS big picture for the worst shooting team in the league. Our strengths are/are going to be Reke's ability to attack inside, and our big guys' ability to attack inside. That's our big picture. In order to make the most of either of those we need spacing. Picking up a player who cannot pace the floor is not big picture. Picking up a 35yr old player who cannot space the floor and is strugglign to mesh wiht one of the better comparison players in the league to Reke right now just makes no sense at all.

I should note a told you so on the whole ROy/Miller pairing. It was never a good fit -- Roy needs the ball, Dre needs the ball. Be an even worse one here where Reke needs the ball, Dre needs the ball, and unlike Brandon who is a good midrange shooter, Reke is taking it to the rack.

As some of you know Andre Miller lives in Sacramento in offseason. His home is up in foothills I believe in El Dorado or Placer County. He certainly would be an excellent vet presence for the Kings. Does anyone know why he makes his home here - maybe through marriage to a local gal?

Last time I looked it wasn't opposing guards getting in Evans way in the paint. So now we need to get Hawes back to space the paint? Oh, and if Martin wasn't a space maker I don't think anyone else in the league is either.

Roy is just making excuses for his lack of movement. It's all excuses for Evans too. Teams are now taking away his ability to go to his right and they are predicting he will go back there and getting the charges. The other issue with Evans is he is scared of contact. He should be going into the paint getting contact and going through it for baskets. Instead he's avoiding contact and taking off balance shots. Last year he averaged 6.5 free throws a game, this year he is at 4.3.

He has family in EDH.

LOL @ people here not wanting Miller. The guy is legit. He can work in the post, can hit the midrange shot, and is a good playmaker. If the Kings can get him in a package with Rudy, who is unhappy and can shoot the ball, it's a no brainer.

Beno + JT or Garcia in a heartbeat.

Im getting a bit tired of hearing the only players that should be on this team should compliment tyreke. How about getting good players on this team and trying to make a young evans fit into the team. i personally thought martin and evans would have been fine with evans driving and dishing to martin for a 3 but it didnt work out at first. So instead of giving it time, we ship martin away cuz he didnt compliment evans. At first everyone thought landry for martin was good, but in hindsight...i dunno. (the only thing that could make it a wash is if we do something after getting rid of martins contract.) Then we think we need a ball handling shooting guard will compliment evans. So i was on board with garcia starting at first, but have you seen him play lately? So here's a thought. Now that we have an up and coming big man in cousins, how about instead of just getting guys that compliment evans, we get a good veteran pg who can direct the team and get the ball to our bigs. It's time to stop stocking up on youngs. We need vets to show these youngs how to win. If andre miller or billups can do it, why not? Cause they dont fit evans game? dont get me wrong i like evans and love him as a king, but this isnt the sacramento tyrekes.

Bumping this back up !

Miller is not happy in Denver being a backup.

Still think he would get this team challenging for a playoff spot. He brings what we are missing. No it's not a long term solution, but we need something now.

Salmons for Miller works straight up, but I don't think Denver would go for it. I'd put in 2 2nd rounders too.

I was just thinking about this. I don't know if the bit on just salmons and 2nds. But he would be a nice pickup, start Tyreke at the two and play Cisco and Greene at the three again.....hmmm

The other bit from that Miller article is that he says he's planning to leave in FA. Of course, the Kings haven't had success getting anyone via a FA signing so that option of waiting for Miller might not be viable.

I guess I'm one of those in the minority that like Miller. I'm not sure why he gets criticized as much as he does. He's always done his job very efficently, and he certainly knows how to run a team. So far, Salmons looks like a fish out of water on this team. I do believe he's trying his best to fit in, but he's not playing his game, and his game, doesn't fit with the Kings. Defensively he's had his moments, but are those moments enough to balance all the things he's not doing well.

So personally, I'd trade Salmons for Miller plus a second rounder. I doubt Denver would do that deal, but you never know. If Miller doesn't want to resign here, that could be a blessing in the long term.

I seem to remember that Miller used to live in Sacramento during the off season. Don't know if it is still true, but that might make him more willing to player here.

Miller not being happy being a backup tells you much of what you need to know about how he'd fit here, because that is what an old man like himself would be here too. Maybe filling Beno's role from last year. And given that he is a FA at the end of the year, we likely lose him in a few months. Not, mind you, that trading Salmons away would in some great way damage this team. In fact it might even be a smart salary dump.

In any case he's 36 now, and he can't shoot from outside, which makes him a very awkward fit next to Reke not to mention a poor spacer fro Cousins. He and Roy struggled over the ball in Portland, it would be even worse here. He should just settle back in Denver and be happy some team is willing to give a 36yr old guy 29min a night.

It's not about putting someone next to Evans who you feel fits. It's time for Evans to fit into the team not the other way around. It's about getting someone who's experience in running a playoff team to come in and steady the ship. Someone who can get the ball into the post, run the offense (distribute) and play some D. He doesn't need a lot of shots to be effective. Even for part of one year would go along way to showing the other guards on the team how it's done.

No, I know you are probably feeling pretty desperate at this point, but its not time for a Tyreke Evans who is blowing up now under Smart the way it was originally foretold to change his game to fit alongside anybody other than Cousins, and to a lesser degree Thronton. You fit the roleplayers to the stars, not the stars to the roelplayers.

Now this team does need some ballhandling help and could use an extra veteran voice -- the Beno trade isn't looking very good right now. But it has to be somebody who fits into a role around Reke and Cousins and Thornton, because that is all they are going to do. And if you have any doubts at all about that after seeing how Smart is coaching the team...you shouldn't. He knows how to coach stars and is turning them loose in shots, minutes, and focus. Everybody else is going to have to fit in.

Yes Evans is playing better. And you know what else? He hasn't been the primary ball handler since Smart took over. He's been getting the ball off screens more. Now if they had someone like Miller who is a much better ball handler than Jimmer or IT running the first team offense it would free up Evans for better shots.

If you have watch Smart then you would also notice he is yelling at Evans. Making him accountable for not moving the ball or doing the right play. When I say it's time for Evans to fit in the team I mean the concept of playing as a team not going one on one. Running a set offense and knowing where everyone is supposed to be on the floor.

Right now this team needs a guard who can set the pace and run the correct plays. Not guards who need to learn how to do it. Plus, moving Thornton to the 6th man roll is the only way this team moves forward. Evans and Thornton are not going to work as the starting back court. Thornton's skill set is of much more value coming off the bench in the BJax, Ginobli type role.

He's yelling out plays, which Reke is for the most part running. yesterday before half he yelled out at Evans to jsut take his guy 1 on 1 because we ddin't have enough time to run it.

And Reke certianly has been the primiary ballhandler/initator from way up top. But as we have an actual semblance of an offense now the ball goes from Reke to a guard or forward on the wing, then either into a big or guard/forwrd chusk a shto, or back to Reke up top to reset or jsut take it himself.

In any case, all of those "other guards" we've got runnind around out there are down the food chain from Reke, and critically they can all theoretically shoot. Find a way to get Beno back and he could fit that role. A 36yr old Dre Miller? Not so much.

Better rewatch the games. It's been Jimmer and IT the past 2 games bringing the ball up and initiating. Thornton was doing it more before that.

In no way do I think of Miller as a replacement in the lineup for Tyreke. I'm just weighing what he brings as oppossed to what Salmons has brought so far. And In my opinion, Greene can do everything Salmons has done. But I can see Miller as a player that could bring some stability to the team when things start to go south, and competent leadership with the game on the line in the fourth quarter. I also think that Tyreke has been doing a good job of adjusting to not having the ball in his hands as much, and still getting his shots. Its a learning process, and I have no doubts that he'll be just fine. His mid-range shot has been looking good as well.

If it means getting rid of Salmons, then go get Miller. Less toxic contract and might turn out to be a blessing. If it does not work, maybe Jimmer will already be ready and we can just let Miller walk away.

trade salmons n a second for dre then negotiate a buyout. :) we'd still be on the books for the contract to meet the league minimum requirements. in the offseason we'd have a chunk of $$$ and a roster spot to throw at AK47 again.

we'd have donte, cisco & outlaw manning the 3 position.

I wish we could have Miller. Put him in there as a floor general. Getting rid of Salmons would be a plus.
