Idiotic Ramblings meaning nothing
Apprehensive? Yes, because this year has so many questions and it seems nothing has happened. But to the contrary, things have happened. This year, there have been actual quotes attributed to Petrie on individuals that they are interested in such as Shareef and Bonzi. Will the team get either or both? don't know, but neither player has yet to make any public commitments.
Since I can't seem to make anything simple, here are some idle musing that could net both:
1) Trade Corliss Williamson and Mike Bibby to Memphis for Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells and James Posey.
The Kings do this for upgrades defensively in both the SG and SF positions. The Kings don't do this simply because it is a downgradg in PG position.
Memphis does this to get something from Bonzi, get rid of Williams, cut salary on this years payroll and get an upgrade in the PG position. Memphis doesn't do this simply because Bibby costs a lot for a team in the rebuilding stage.
2) Trade Skinner and a 1st for a resigned Shareef from Portland.
Kings do this because Shareef's offensive skills fit perfectly with the Kings system and he can play around the basket. His defensive deficiencies aren't as acute with better defenders on the outer edges. The Kings give up a first in order to get Portland to take salary even if the salary is only for this year and the next.
Portland does this because without getting something back, they have a huge hole at the PF position and they gain a first round pick. With the current state of the Kings, it is possible that pick may be lower than the last few years. As stated above, Skinner's salary is for this year and the next, with the following year the team's option.
3) Trade Thomas and Jackson for a resigned Marko Jaric from the Clippers.
The Kings do this to get a younger, bigger defensive minded PG. They also are able to get out from under Thomas's long contract. They don't do it simply because that is a high price for a borderline starter.
The Clippers do this cause they can. Jackson would serve as a short term solution for a back-up to Livingston who they see as their future. Thomas may also be attractive as a "starter" SF/back-up PF. The Clippers don't cause it sure seems like they have it out for the Kings this year.
These moves result in the following assuming the team matches any (reasonable) offer for Songalia and fill the rest (two) slots with minimum wage players (although they would still have the mid-level left):
Jason Williams PG
Marco Jaric PG/SG
Price? House?
Bonzi Wells SG
Kevin Martin SG
"Cisco" Garcia SG/SF
Peja Stojakovic SF
James Posey SF/SG
Matt Barnes SF
Shareef Abdur-Rahim PF/SF
Darius Songalia PF
Nikoloz Tskitishvili?
Brad Miller C/PF
Greg Ostertag C
Not a team that one would be used to be seeing, but could be interesting with plenty of offensive and a more defensive peremiter. Who knows what will happen in the next few weeks? not I.
