Simon was on the Ellen show this afternoon. He thinks the two who will most likely leave this week are Phil and Chris. He said he thinks it's a toss-up between Jordin and Melinda for top spot right now, but that Blake and Lakisha still could sneak in...

I actually think one of the two who leaves this week will be Lakisha. She just has faded every week. As I mentioned before, I think she's really homesick and missing her daughter and doesn't have the same hunger and focus as before.

I have liked Lakisha, since the day she showed up for her audition. She has a confidence and attitude about her that comes across as a quiet passion for singing. But over the past few weeks, she seems to have shrunk before us. Like she is not handling the grueling pressure of this show. With that said, sometimes you need a wake up call, and I believe that this week is her last shot to get it together. If she performs anywhere near what she did in the beginning of the show, she is going to get through this week and get back on track. I just hope she fits into the Bon Jovi mold. Part of me doubts that she does.

I am SO EXCITED that Jon Bon Jovi will be on Idol. I have been a Bon Jovi fan as long as I have been a King's fan! In high school, I had a life sized poster on my bedroom wall of him. Of course I am eager to see how the contestants perform, but I am even more eager to see Bon Jovi!

I agree with you about Lakisha. I really don't think she is going to do well with the Bon Jovi mold either. Like I mentioned before, she hasn't been impressing me at all for the past month. If she wants to stay in the competition, she had better step it up.

Some interesting performances... Here's how I saw tonight:

Melinda - Have a Nice Day
Blake - You Give Love a Bad Name (Major props for the biggest stretch of the night; he truly made the song his own)
Phil - Blaze of Glory
Jordin - Living on a Prayer
Lakisha - This Ain't A Love Song
Chris - Wanted Dead or Alive

I haven't watched tonight yet, but based on last week which still counts for half the votes I suspect its Lakisha and Chris who are gone. I think Phil has found his audience even though I don't like him.

I also suspect that the powers that be would like to get rid of Melinda - in fact their comments that Chris and Phil are in danger might be a ploy to get their fans to vote more tonight. Melinda is a better singer than Jordin but Jordin is far more marketable (and mendable at 17) and I think they'd really like to pave the way for her to run away with this.

I just can't follow that logic. At this point, both Jordin and Melinda have fantastic careers ahead of them and either will make a great American Idol. I cannot imagine what possible benefit the "powers that be" could get from getting rid of Melinda...

Because Jordin is far and away the most marketable of the remaining contestants and having her win further enhances that marketability. Melinda is going to be in more of a niche market (adult contemporary vs. pop) and doesn't need the credibility of a win to sell her voice.

The music industry is one of the shadiest industries known to man and this show is run by those same people, why wouldn't they want to influence the voting to best position the performers they've pretty much roped into one sided contracts by the very nature of being on this show? It maximizes their profitability which is ultimately what this is all about.

You might want to watch tonight's show ... It sure didn't look like TPTB (whomever they are) were trying to push Melinda away in favor of Jordin. And to clarify - Ellen asked Simon who he thought was in most jeopardy going into this week's show. He ventured a personal opinion, saying he thought Chris and Phil were the most in jeopardy. She then asked him which ones he favored and he said Melinda and Jordin. It wasn't a pronouncement of any kind. Simon has done pretty much the same thing every year and he hasn't always been right...

I'm watching right now and just watched Jordin who I thought was pretty bad. But the judges comments while harsh were directed in a way that will rile up her voting base. 6 seasons into the show they are well aware that those type of comments have a certain effect - "Cue the boos now" is practically a direct challenge to her fans to respond to his negative comments.

Anyhow that's just my take on what's going on in the back of their minds and not reflective of my opinions on any of the performers.

The performance was a great performance of a terrible song, but the reviews seemed like a complete afterthought - Randy said "I don't know if it was your best performance, but it was a great performance." And Simon echoed that and said she was leagues above everyone else, but they didn't say anything to enforce her front runner status and they spent less than 30 seconds between the 3 of them on her review. This is the kind of review that makes supporters feel safe with no sense of urgency to vote that lead to a shocking elimination.

Melinda and Blake were the only two that stood out positively for me tonight and they had the shortest analysis by the judges and I think that is because they have the least idea what to do with these two if they win. Melinda is older and perhaps doesn't have the look they want and Blake's creativity could generate problems when they pretty much have the entire album already written for whoever wins.

Although I really liked Blake's performance I didn't find his remix to be that big of a stretch since he kept the chorus largely intact and that hook is the entire song. On the other hand Bon Jovi himself actually did change the hook a few years back and the results were horrifying.

I loved tonights show...Here's my rankings, and they are the complete opposite of what some would believe...I guess being a rocker myself kinda had me biased, and instead of being a singing contest, I went for who captured the genre in their performances...

1: Blake --- He is back, and is back with a vengeance! He looked the part, and he returned to what made him popular in the first place...PLEASE keep this up!!!

2: Phil --- I absolutely loved this performance. HE looked 100% rock-star and was showing he had a personality in his interaction with the crowd. Ever since country week, he's been top 3 for me.

3: Jordin --- My exact quote, "I don't think the judges will agree, but I LOVED IT!" I think I'm going based on how she captured the whole "rocker" vibe with the performance...She actually pumped me up!

4: Lakisha --- She really suprised me tonight. Not a powerhouse performance, but I thought she was in for an epic flop.

5: Chris --- He didn't produce the other epic flop of the night...He sounded more raspy than his normal nasal performance, and IMO did a really good job capturing the rock scene.

6: Melinda --- I don't get what the judges saw, because this was the FIRST time where I said "Wow, Melinda isn't actually blowing away the competition." My sister and parents both agreed. She did not suck by any stretch, but was farthest away from the rock scene, and her vocals were not near her normal masterful level.

I love Bon Jovi :D Liked most of the song choices. My rankings for the night

1. Phil! - Way to go Phil!
2. LaKisha - I kept going back and forth on whether or not I liked it, but I guess I did.
3. Blake - For originality only
4. Jordin - Karaoke
5 Melinda - I hated it
6. Chris - It wasn't terrible, just not as good as anyone else.

I thought Bon Jovi's songs were going to be tough for some of the contestants, however, they all did pretty good. The only one I didn't care for was Jordin's song Living on a Prayer.

I am surprised to see some of you not liking Melinda. Oh well.

My rankings for the night are:

Melinda - I never heard the song, but I thought she did quite well
Lakisha - I actually thought she stepped it up
Blake - Really went out on a limb and made the song his own. Good job.
Phil - He did ok
Jordin - Have to admit, this was a bad song choice, but I think she still is safe
Chris - He's just got to go

Going home tonight: Chris and Phil

I surprisingly enjoyed last night's show. I did not know enough about Jon Bon Jovi to have a positive opinion of his material, but I did like him as a mentor. He can sing, he can play and he was very interactive with the contestants. And after listening to the songs, it took me back to my twenties.:)

Performance of the Night - Blake Lewis (A)
This is the Blake I have come to appreciate. He is by far the most unique finalist the show has had. The Blake of the last few weeks have been a little drab, but his performance last night was risky, edgy and outstanding.

Phil Stacy (B)
If they gave out a Most Improved Singer award, that award would go to Mr. Stacey. He seems to get better as the competition goes forward. He said it himself, that he has been singing Bon Jovi for years. That shows his professionalism and his ability to prepare. And how he worked the crowd last night was very good.

Jordin Sparks (C)
I think it was her worst vocal performance. Showmanship and stage presence was very good. Listen, I know that Jordin is marketable, and cute and precious, but vocally she is very inmature, and you saw that in her rendition of "Living on a Prayer". With that said, I believe she will continue through until the end, and then she is going to have to grow up quick, if she has any hope of winning.

Chris Richardson (C+)
Same as Jordin. Performance was good, vocals were average at best.

Lakisha Jones (A-/B+)
Lakisha did a lot for herself last night. I thought she was very solid. Best performance in weeks. With that said, I do think she is going home, and that is a shame. Only based on the two performances combined. The show is much more interesting with her in it than not.

Melinda Doolittle (B+)
Once again a pro's pro. I thought she was going to have the most problems. But she showed a little rocker chick attitude and spiced it up with a little soul. She is still the front runner.

Going Home - Lakisha and Chris (I hope)

I was so sad when Phil got cut...He had been a favorite of mine since country week.

Current list.

1: Jordin (Tough week, but still is the most marketable and not to far below Melinda vocally)
2: Blake (Persona taste. He's not nearly the singer Melinda is, but he's eons ahead entertainment-wise)
3: Melinda (Best vocalist...Although seems like she could never be marketed to the masses)
4: Lakisha (I think she's the lame-duck contestant...I really have never been on her bandwagon)

Okay, this is my ranking of the remaining hopefuls:

1. Melinda
2. Blake
3. Jordin
4. Lakisha

And I don't agree that Melinda isn't marketable. Fantasia isn't for everybody; neither is Carrie Underwood; or Reuben Studdard; or Taylor Hicks. And yet they're all having pretty decent careers.

I have to give it up to American Idol fans for being smarter than the media gives us credit. For throughout the Sanjaya and Haley Skanknato and Vote For the Worst crap, voters got it absolutely right. Melinda, Blake, Lakisha and Jordin have been the best most consistant in this competition. Any one of these four I can see being the next American Idol.

1. Melinda
2. Blake
3t. Jordin/Lakisha

Sidenote: Next week is Bee Gees Week. A note to Lakisha. "Keke", if they allow you to sing non-Bee Gees song, I've got the perfect song. "I Love the Nightlife", a 1978 joint by Alicia Bridges. PERFECT, PERFECT song choice. :)

Tonight should be good. Each of the remaining four should be able to knock a BeeGee's song out nicely.

My rankings after tonight's show only:

1. Jordin
2. Melinda
3. Blake
4. LaKisha

In all honesty, the night belonged to Jordin. The other three could really be ranked any possible combination and I wouldn't really complain.

I think Blake and LaKisha will be the bottom two and I look to see LaKisha going home because Blake has unique followers while LaKisha is similar to Melinda.

I caught the show for the first time last night.

Jordin is only 17, right?

THAT GIRL CAN SING.

They all can. They'll all get contracts.

I liked Blake's 2nd song. Danceable.

I think LaKisha will go home, just not quite strong enough. Melinda had a stronger performance.

Ranking:

Jordin
Melinda
Blake
LaKisha

Im confused why everyone turned on Blake so quickly.

Before last week he went through about a 3 weeks period where he was extremely conventional and didn't beat-box once.

Im glad he came back to his roots.

I really thought the Bee Gee songs were going to be easy to sing, but it sure didn't sound that way last night. I wasn't impressed. Blake and Lakisha were terrible.

My rankings:

1. Melinda
2. Jordin
3. Blake
4. Lakisha

Bottom 2 picks - Blake and Lakisha

Going home - Lakisha

My rankings for the remaining three hopefuls:

1. Jordin - Wow. She just keeps getting better and better. Every time I see her, I think of the comment "her future's so bright I need shades"...

2. Melinda - She'll do very, very well and she'll do it without changing.

3. Blake - I think he'll have a successful career, too. He's unique. He just has to remember not to overdo the beat-box stuff because he actually has a really good voice without it.

1. Melinda - She is still the front runner. Mature, professional, consistant.
2. Jordin - Has not been as impressive, but clearly deserves to be here.
3. Blake - Entertaining, will be interesting to see how he will compete.
