Amare to the knicks?

Amare seems like he is one of the few FAs that actually cares a whole lot about being in NY for the lifestyle. They can't sign officially until 7/8 but yea it seems likely Amare will be the only top name the Knicks will get.

Probably. The FA's are making deals, they just become official when July 8th comes.

Not only has Amare long been obsessed with being a celebrity, but this now cements his career as a gimmick player for a gimmick system. He's never proven nor risked being able to excel in any system but the duck and chuck run up and down the floor no defense style. Not just a player who thrives in it, but possibly a player who needs it -- or at least that's all history will ever know now once he's gone.

I agree with you, but he's still a nice player. I think he would fit well with Tyreke - hits 15 footers, jumps and finishes well.

Of course - players like that tend to lose their effectiveness when they hit 30....and he's 27. I tend to think that the knicks will end up regretting this contract in about a year unless Stoudemire and whomever else they can sucker into coming are able to make it deep into the playoffs.

Otherwise it will just be another case of a good #2 getting star money.

Edit - I think Stoudemire is actually a 1/2 - better than a guy like Joe Johnson....but doesn't quite have the same impact on a game as Lebron, Howard, Wade, etc.

If they don't follow this up with a Lebron or Wade signing, I think they've just locked themselves into middling playoff team status. When they started positioning for cap space a few years ago they were hoping to do more than exchange Lee for Amare.

Now it lessens us beating knicks.

How so? I personally think that Amare is overrated as a player and his flaws will become more evident without Nash setting him up all game long. That being said, he is an upgrade over David Lee at PF but the rest of the team is still either mediocre or just plain bad. I know they may still make another signing (don't know who), but overall I don't think they improved their team all that much. They won't be contending for anything IMO.

wonder how amare stoudemire is gonna function without steve nash, amare is a good player but I think more of his success as a player came after steve nash was added to the suns

True that. without a legit point guard he will fail. I change my opinion. Nash is one of those players that makes his teamates better two. Amare is a good player, but without Nash he doesnt have much.

yep, amare put up nice numbers before nash got there but in my opinion the bulk of amare's success came from steve nash once he got there

yeah I just think the Knicks need more than Amare. If they get anyone less than Lebron or Wade not only will the fans not be happy then Amare won't be happy and they will still be lottery team.

I get why Amare wants to leave Pheonix. He sees an old team about to slowly fall out of contention. What I don't get is going to the Knicks. THey will be lucky to get a whiff of the playoffs next year, and if they get close at all it will be because they are in the East. If he had an idea that one of the other big names would end up there, I could see it. But I don't see either Wade or Labron going there, and Johnson & Gar already resigned with there teams. Getting Bosh or Boozer would just be redundant. The only reason I can see going to NY is for the spotlight it will put him in. However, he may end up regretting that when any failures will be placed on his shoulders.

There's also the $100 million reason, guaranteed for 5 years instead of the 3 year guaranteed/2 year team option that Phoenix was trying to make.

While he's done ALOT more with worse he's getting older and you gotta think at some point he'll finally show it this might be a big reason why Amare took that deal. That core is getting older that they have there last year was probably the farthest they are gonna get with that team for their sake hopefully they start up a rebuild soon.

I don't see Warrick doing anything close to Amare numbers or Frye going off alot now that he's pretty much gonna be the main focus they got in a big man now, the Suns have suddenly went from our worst matchup of any team to probably one of our best.

i'm very curious to see how Amare plays out now without Nash...i still remember Kenyon Martin was a beast and then was not as effective when he bolted Nets and Kidd, same as McDyess during his younger years..

Amar'e has missed 32 games the past 4 seasons, and played in all 82 in 2 of those seasons. I think it's time to put the problematic knees to rest

There's a shelf life on those knees, for sure. He's been fine so far, but you still have to be concerned about a surgically repaired knee and the overcompensation in the other knee, especially in a big man.

Stoudemire was already established as a very good player before Nash went to the Suns. No doubt he benefited from Nash, but Nash isn't solely responsible for his success as a player.

There is no doubt that Amare was a good player before Nash, but Nash helped make him look like a superstar to many around the league. That being said, I understand him getting out of Phoenix before they all end up in a nursing home, I just think he could have gone to a team where he would have a better chance of winning. The Knicks don't really improve that much with his addition IMO. He gives them a "star" and a much better all around scorer than David Lee did, and neither of them played much defense. OTOH, Lee is a better rebounder than Amare. Without the addition of another really good player, I still don't see them as a playoff team. And I don't see that FA out there for them to sign at this point. IMO he could have gone to Miami or Chicago and been served much better. He just wouldn't have been "The Man" and maybe that is what he is looking for.
