I'll continue the theme from the "what the....." thread and say, "WHAT THE %$@*!!?"

This definately shores up Houston's pg problems if Bob Sura can't play this year. While Houston loses a lot on the defensive end by giving up James they gain a great playmaker in Alston.

am i the only one who likes this trade ? from the raptors point of view

Well, it gets a malcontent out of town and in return the Raps get a proven defender who showed gnack last year for hitting some big shots. James doesn't quite have the upside that Alston does, but Alston wasn't a good fit in Toronto.

Good trade for both teams overall.

Mike James must feel disappointment right now though, heh. He was having a ball in Houston with a very nice role, and was so happy he got traded there in Feb. He was big for Houston since coming there. Alston must be the opposite ;). I've never seen a lot of Alston, just have read a solid deal on him, and I think he solves their PG problem. James helps out with their defense, brings a veteran prescence, and can score well. Just thinking about Houston's guards other than the older guys; Luther Head, if he develops his point skills, will be a good guard in the league, he's got the other things.

Toronto is just spinning tis wheels as always, but at least I suspose they are cleaning up the locker room malaise.

But this could make Houston more formidable still. No longer just Yao and McGrady, they now have a very legit starting 5 of Alston, Anderson, McGrady, Swift, Yao. That's arguably upgrades at 3 of the 5 positions for them in one offseason around the two stars.

its not like the raptors were going anywhere with alston....

Been watching Skip To Mylou since his Fresno State Days... I keep hoping he will grow up and start to play more like a team palyer and less like a one on one park player but every time I think he has made it... he pulls some other bone head move. I doubt he will improve Houston much and I would be very surprised if he turns out to be some kind of missing piece, but I do sincerly wish him and the rest of the Rockets well.

It's a good move for both teams. Rafer still has years and millions on his contract and wasn't happy in Toronto. He started off last season really well, but then butted heads with Sam Mitchell. At least they cut their losses and get something for him, instead of hanging onto him for another year and having his value decline. Mike James is an alright player. It's not like they need him to put them over the top. They just need a serviceable point guard for the time being.
Houston could really win in this deal if Alston stays focused. A winning situation will probably do that for him. When he played with Odom and Wade in Miami, he was one of their "X-Factor" type of players. Houston will be, by far, the best team he's played on and he can be a big part of it by playing like a real point guard, setting up their scorers and knocking down lots of open jumpers.
