[News] Allen Family Estate finally selling the Blazers

Dammmit you beat me on my local...“Today the Estate of Paul G. Allen is announcing the start of a formal process to sell the Portland Trail Blazers. This is an expected milestone following Paul’s death, who had directed his sports holdings to be sold with all Estate proceeds being directed to philanthropy. Please find below a statement from the Estate.”

The league couldn’t possibly let the owner of freaking Nike own a franchise, could it?

Maybe he's just stepping aside for Aunt Vivian.
I think that might be Aunt MacKenzie (Scott). She's come up along with the Boyle family (Columbia Sportswear) and Travis Boersma (Dutch Bros), the latter two are the only legit billionaires besides Phil local to Portland.

The other names would be the runners up to Boston and Larry Ellison who I am pretty sure has been blackballed from the NBA.

I hope you got the pop culture reference, that's all I'm gonna say, LOL!!! :p:p:p

Dutch Bros being a multibillionaire spawning enterprise is wild to me haha

I will never forget when bro was on Undercover Boss and I realized their name was not said as "Dutch Brothers" within the company walls. I don't enjoy their coffee at all but kids seem to love all the ice cream flavors and sugar crapola.

...of course Travis and every other idiot to appear on that show all get a pass thanks to Cortland Gray of Peavey.

The owner of Dutch Bros has a horse racing operation too. They had a horse in the Kentucky Derby that led most of the way til the final stretch, and he apparently is trying to open a track and betting in Oregon. So he definitely has money to throw around.

marketing is everything, people don't always consume products they like but because it's what the crowds are doing
which I think goes back to @Tetsujin's point, their branding kinda sucks too? I think they clawed out a spot by being the drive-by coffee guys, er, bros. But everyone does that now.

I think the branding is fine, they have the windmill in their logo which indicates the dutch environment. The color scheme is different. Let's consider how many locations the drive thru only coffee chains have versus one another. A lot of the time the location can be everything you need to gain the advantage. Everything is strategically mapped out here.

To each their own, I find them horribly pedestrian. I've lived here long enough to call myself an Oregonian I guess, and not exactly thrilled to list them among our biggest exports/homegrown products.

You mean you don't make a monthly pilgrimage to Grants Pass? ;)

Local weekly selling doom and gloom including a photo of Dame in a Sonics jersey 🤣

Blazers appear to have a buyer. Tom Dundon, owner of the Carolina Hurricanes. Will keep team in Portland.

Quick research uncovered this tidbit from an Athletic article lol

Waiting for that announcement that @pdxKingsFan has purchased a minority stake in the franchise!
Although, if you ask me, I'd much rather he purchase his stake in the Kings, but if it HAS to be Portland, then so be it!

Dudon is apparently a prime investor in a pro pickleball league so maybe he isn’t going to be so out of place in Portland after all.

I agree Carolina couldn’t support two teams but they do average over 17k a game. Pretty good given they are both bad and their best player is chronically injured.

Yeah, they get decent crowds, but those crowds represent basically all of the NBA basketball fans in the state; North Carolina is one of those places with a bunch of "I love college and hate the pros" people that both confound and disgust me.

Frankly, it's more likely that the Hurricanes move to Portland than it is that the Trail Blazers move to Raleigh.
