All Star Rumor: Lamar Odom for Peja and Bobby Jackson

if lakers throw in chris mihm for ostertag, then they have a deal

no way petrie trades peja, a three time all star, and bo jax for lamar odom... UNLESS the lakers sweetens the deal... two for one doesn't help the kings out... but if the lakers added chris mihm or possibly caron butler, then maybe... if the lakers offered lamar ODOM and chris MIHM for PEJA, Bo JAX and greg OSTERTAG, then petrie would be smart to take it... one has to remember, the lakers are the fringe team to make the playoffs... unless the lakers blow petries socks off with a sweeter deal, no way the kings trade peja to our arch enemy... it's the lakers who are desperate to get a player of peja caliber, so they better sweeten any potential deal, before the kings would even consider it....

if Kings were to trade Peja and Bjax to the Lakers now, Kings should have just traded for Shaquile O'neil in the first place...just imagine...Vlade,Peja,BJax and during that time we still have Christie...these are players Kings have decided to give up...Bibby and Bmiller were great when CWebb and Peja were out just imagine if the Kings had Shaq-inside presence,BMiller-perimeter shots,Bibby-playmaking and the Kings still have CWebb with not much load to carry...Kings could have been the no. 1 team by now...well this is just one of those big 'what IF's'...sorry again guys...if the Kings were just playing well right now we fans wouldn't be all out thinking of these trade stuffs..

i just hope Kings can pull this thing together and make a run for the championship now...any trade that will make the Kings go over the top and win it all is cool for me....just here to watch and enjoy every baskeball game..Kings basketball...

why is it so difficult for some of you to look at odom as a small forward?

Apparently the Lakers have no problem in viewing Odom at the three. Most Laker fans are talking about the apparently almost done deal bringing Boozer to their team. He'll play the 4 and they think Odom will fit perfectly well at SF.

So did I.

:(

It was certainly intriguing.

Not all of us are fed up with the team or overly hung up on the recent losses. Sure, they hit a rough patch but it's not unheard of in the annals of sports history. Even recent NBA title winners have suffered longer slumps than what the Kings are going through.

The Kings could have been #1? So? I could have been Queen of England if I'd been born to the House of Windsor.

I have faith in Geoff Petrie. I know all too well what this franchise was like before he came. He has consistently made moves that made the team better. Sometimes dooty happens and that cannot be put on Petrie's shoulders. We have been EXTREMELY lucky as fans to have seen the caliber of our team's play rise to the elite status they now enjoy.

It's not time to run for the lifeboats quite yet.

There have been questions asked if LO can play the 3? Better question; can Peja play the 3? Physically they are very similar exept Odom is a much, much, much better athlete, and much longer, so I would think, defensively, Odom could flourish at the 3.

Wow, I certainly didn't expect this trade, but as most trades happen they are usually something no fan would even think of. I hate the idea of giving LA two deadly shooters in BoJax and Peja but getting a guy like LO could cure a lot of problems. Truth is though value wise I think Peja, by himself, is worth more than Lamar. Sticking with Peja could be bad strickly from a strategic standpoint, too many shooters, not enough scorers, but too many SHOOTERS. Of course if we kept Peja I wouldn't give up all hope. We shall see. This should be exciting.

So LA could get, Boozer and Peja. Dang!! That Kind of scares me a little! We would get LO but LA gets three stars that all do different things. Boozer would be there to clean up Pejas misses and Kobe would still be Kobe. YIKES!

I have no idea -- Odom IS a small forward who has been playing out of position as a PF. Heck, he's played some OG in his career. Excellent ball handler for such a big man. But I do love his versatility to be able to swing to PF and provide excellent mobility and skill up there. And as mentioned in the other thread, with a few years of mentoring, continued growth of his body/game, there might be no player in the league right now better suited to eventually take over for Webb as our PF (assuming we maintain the same system -- if Adleman/Carril go, likely so goes the frontcourt passing system whihc has defined us).

No stats really but he toyed with Webber last time we lost to LA - for some people that is all You need right there.

The following is an excerpt from a David Moore article in yesterday's Dallas Morning News, discussing the evolution of the power forward position in the NBA over the last few years. I think the comments that Jeff Van Gundy's has to make generally about the development of the 3-4 position in the NBA, and specifically about Odom's potential, is pertinent to y'alls discussion here:

"Over the last couple of years, I think the power forward spot has been redefined a little bit," Nowitzki said. "There are a lot of guys now who can shoot and make stuff happen off the dribble.

The four [power forward] has to be agile and be able to move and shoot a little bit and make some plays. It's a fun position to play because you get to be inside and outside. It's a fun spot for me and something I can use to my advantage."

A lot has been made about how scoring is up in the league this season. Most point to a league mandate to limit hand and arm contact on the perimeter by the defender.

Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy doesn't buy that theory. He believes the diversity at power forwards leads to mismatches that spread the court and improve the offensive flow.

"I think the biggest thing in the NBA is the downsizing in the front court," Van Gundy said. "One of the most important positions now is having a guy who can play the three [small forward] or the four.

"Nowitzki is a three-four at 7-feet, so it doesn't hurt your rebounding. You can play quick. Look at Phoenix. The reason they can put a three at the four is because Shawn Marion rebounds. That's why I think the Lakers are going to keep moving up. Lamar Odom started in the league at a three and now he's a four. You can't guard him off the dribble but he can still rebound the ball.

"If you can find a guy like that, to me, he has just as much impact on the league as any position."

Van Gundy doesn't stop there.

"Offensively, it spreads out the size," the Rockets coach said. "The pick-and-roll is so much harder to guard, the transition is so much harder to guard, driving the ball becomes so much harder to guard because instead of two blocks filled [under the basket] there is only one.

"On the defensive end, you're speeding those slower teams up. You make them trap or front or whatever. You make them react to quickness."

A 'three'/'four' who can rebound and create offensive mismatches with his quickness and playmaking ability? Now, that sounds to me like just the kind of guy who might be able to do much to mitigate y'alls current rebounding deficiencies without compromising your ability to put points on the board, and nothing against spot-up shooting, inadequate-rebounding Peja, but from the outside looking in, it appears to me that the addition of Lamar Odom to your roster might be just the kind of personel move that can end the festering and malignant Webber-Peja cold war, and might be able to facilitate y'alls Kings ability to make strong playoff runs for many years to come.

Even upon the possible eventuality of Webber's health degenerating again, I'd say that Bibby, Miller, Odom, and Cat would provide a very strong, balanced nucleus for your team to build around, and as I said, even if it comes at the cost of Bobby Jackson and the increasingly sad and woebegotten Peja, I'd bet that the completion of such a trade would do much to keep the Kings solidly competing in the playoffs, and possibly challenging for a championship, for at least the next 3-5 seasons.

Also, I do realize that the thought of Peja leaving the Kings would be a sad one for the many loyal Peja fans who frequent this site, but I also imagine that Peja himself would probably be overjoyed to be given the opportunity to once again play on the same team as his old friend, mentor, and confidant Vlade, and that from an emotional standpoint, such a trade might be the best possible thing that could happen to Stojakovic...
