All-star Game

Yeah the Streak looks like it is over.

Yo could have stay in Sac and rested IMO. Or Practiced with our team and got ready for the 2nd Half.

Oh yeah the Coaching staff is gone. May have had a better Practice.

Um....can you explain to me how the west has all these shooters and get beat down like this....(not a rhetorical question, I just walked in on this disaster).

The East is basically Connecticut + Detroit this year, so the players on that team have the chemistry advantage, I guess.

The Sun (with their coach) beat the West. And the West just could not score.

I don't mind that the East finally won an All-Star game. I just think that it is ridiculous for so many players from the same team to play together against a true All-Star squad. It feels like a stacked deck. :(

It was unfortunate that the West's winning streak had to come to an end... But, it was nice seeing Ticha, and Chameka there. Also, my friend from Jersey who went to the events said that she met Haynie. Hmm.. I wonder what other Monarchs were there...

I think most of them went to the game as some bonding thing to support Yo. (Or at least that's what Brunson said after Sunday's game, many of them were making the trip too).

I don't mind the East winning either (well, I do since Whiz will have the stigma of being the first coach to lose to the East) as long as we kick Sun @$$ on Saturday.

I think it is great that the "Team" went to support Yo. However I think tha may have been a mixed bag. Considering that They just got back from a grueling road trip back East. And If you think about it, the Charlotte game was just as much of a road game as the roadtrip itself.

I would have thought it would have been advantagious for the team to stay here, rather than get back on a plane and fly across the country. AGAIN!!!

The earliest they will be back is Thursday, leaving only one day for practice before what I would consider the Biggest game of the year to this point.

Yes I know the coaching staff wouldn't have been back anyway. But I would would think the team would have been fresher. I just hope they are ready to play.

Hey, remember back in the old days when we could stay up all night and still go to work the next day? They are young and in shape and this break is probably great for them! It's got to be a great treat to go to a game and not have to play!!! Just go and yell for the home team...wow, sounds a lot like what we do to unwind!!!

I'm not a fan of the WNBA but was wondering if any one dunked at the all-star game? Yesterday morning, I read an article in the bee stating that Michelle or Lisa Leslie or someone was doing to dunk. Did it happen?

I didn't see the game yesterday, as I was working in the office when it happened, and I don't have ESPN at home. But according to the ESPN website, near the end of the game, Diana Taurasi tried to slam-dunk but her shot hit the rim. Michelle Snow rebounded it, and then made a successful slam-dunk. The defense just let her do it.

I get the impression that was more defensive pressure and rebounding in this year's game, compared to last year's game.

But I know that Lisa Leslie dunked in last year's All-Star Game. I have that game on tape. When that game was nearly over, the Eastern Conference team pretty much let Lisa dunk away.

Dee "tried" to dunk, we all thought she was messing around, but she wasn't smiling after it happened, so I guess she was serious about it. She didn't get too high up.

then Snow did a reverse dunk, it was chill. Sounds fancier than it looked tho.

Tweety in the last few seconds attemped a dunk, like last year, but missed.

Part of DWalkfan22's report:

MEMO to Deanna "Tweety" Nolan:

Kid, you missed TWO attempts last year! Forget about dunking! It's just not in you! :D

I agree. I'm a little ticked that Coach Whiz became the first Western Conference coach to do so. Not that it makes him any less a coach, but it makes him something of a dubious answer to a trvia question.

Congrats to the Eastern squad, by the way.

Anyhow, here's what Whiz said after the game:

Near the end, when the score couldn't be changed anyway, the girls did do a dunking thing, there were several tries and everyone just stood and laughed and let it happen. Looked like they were all having fun. I think one did make it, but I couldn't tell who.

I wish Coach and Yo hadn't had to go. I think they are maybe the two that most could have used a rest. As to practice, I assumed its the same as the NBA, no practices allowed during the All-Star break?

The W players get two days off during the break...from what I understood they were going to practice Monday morning before everybody left for NY.

I wholeheartedly agree Kennadog....Whiz and Yo could have used the break.

Rest for sure...

Well I know that "Practice wasn't allow" But I bet There were some things that Bekkah or Haynie could have been working on rather than hanging out in N.Y.

It is not like she has been Bustin Heads with the post moves lately. I was just loking at the travel schedule and thinking they have been on the road for awhile. And no matter how young you are this is a grueling schedule.

Think about it from the 25th of June..

6/25 Play Indy at home
6/26 travel day to Seattle
6/27 Play Seattle
6/28 Travel Home
6/29 Play Minny
6/30 Fly to Charlotte
7/1 Play charlotte Fly to Houston
7/2 Play Houston
7/2 Fly to NY
7/3-7/5 In NY
7/6 Play New York
7/7 Take a Bus to Washington Play Washington
7/8 Travel Day
7/9 Play Charlotte

So if you chose to go to the ASG
7/10 practice then travel t N.Y.
7/11 Party???
7/13 ASG
7/14 Travel
7/15 Practice

7/16 Early Game 1pm Conn.

Seems to me that Time could have been better spent. If not actually resting then working on some individual stuff. My thoughts are I don't care how young you are this can and will take it toll. Look at all the players going down to Injury this year.

I totally understand supporting Yo, and wanting to be at the ASG. Perhaps the league should take a closer look at how this years schedule has effected the play and health of the players. But If I am defending my title and we are 12-8 just starting to put things together, I may be more inclined to stay home and take that time to fine tune things.

In case no one noticed, The Sun want the Monarchs in a Big Way. And this game is big coming out of the All Star Break for the Monarchs. Besides Indiana, the Monarchs have a terrible record against teams with a Record above .500. This is a bench mark game, and will set the tone for the rest of the season.

I might be wrong... And if I am It wouldn't be the first time. But It just seemed really impractical for 4 members of our team (that I know of) to fly across the country after a trip like that.

If we had been at home... Maybe
If the ASG was in Houston or Closer... maybe
If we were playing our next game on the East Coast.. Perhaps
If there was more Down time between the next game... Sure

But the circumstances as they were... Maybe not the best Idea. Like I said... I just hope they are ready to go come Saturday. Anything less that their A game and The Monarchs take a big loss.

Hi everyone...back from the game & yes we did get smoked! Just the same it was a blast. We went over on JET BLUE & low & behold...Monarchs staff & players were also on our flight! Haynie, Yo, Ticha, Brunson, Ruthie,& I think Chamika Christon. Along with all the coaches & Pam,Jill & our equipment gal, forget her name? So that was sweet. Ruthie, Haynie & Pam spoke to Knares & I. Yo walked by & nodded..her usual game face. Would have been nice of her to speak to us die hard fans, high five us of somethin! Well for the most part that's Yo.
The All-Star events were really fun. We went to a discover party following the game in the Garden club, we had desserts & a open bar. They gave every fan a All-Star mini ball & Wnba visor. Only 300 folks signed up, first come basis. Later Katie Douglas,Sofia Young, Beard & Nolan signed.for all the fans, They were dressed to kill! The discover folks raffled off some East & West signed jerseys, Discover gift cards $100 & a trip to this years Wnba finals, Rountrip, hotel & $500 spending cash. Wish I could have won! A great time was had by all.
I'll share more later...gotta get some sleep!
I wanted the West to win...but it was nice to see all our East players & fans finally win. They beat us at our own game!

Great report, NBH!

Now let's hope that the league chooses next year's ASG to a Western Conference location, for a change! Maybe....Arco?

:)

I'm in agreement about wishing none of this team had traveled to NY. But reality is what it is and they would have taken two days off and probably not worked on anything basketball related which might have the same effect. Whiz is a task master so I'm sure the team practiced the first official minute he was allowed to call a practice after the break.

Thanks for the preliminary report NBH!!! Look forward to more :)

Very true Carole...should have been All-Star West vs. Conn Sun!
StevenHW...Now that would be nice. I heard a nasty rumor, I pray a rumor...the game may go back to Washington! What is it? Are these the only cities that want to do it, I know the Monarchs have expressed an intrest.

Attended the All-Star skills challenge & 3 point shootout. I really enjoyed the 3 point contest. That was great to see Augustas & Staley win. Well at least the West won somethin! We got to sit courtside for the East practice. Mike Tebo's practice was a bit more up beat than Coach W. Coach W. is the Defensive X's & O's guy. Coach Tebo likes to get the fans involved. We got to ask questions from the East Squad...they really seemed focused & hungry to end the drought.

The All-Star jam was fun, I played in some contests & our team won, the first to get 5 baskets wins a Jam towle, it was myself & a bunch of kids! Shot baskets, got autographs. Took photo's & visited with fans. Got in 1 photo on the WNBA jam site. I'll try & post it.
I really enjoyed the All-Decade portion of the game. I heard that the reserves did not receive the All-Deacde jacket, IMO they should have.

See YOU ALL SAT!
