All-inclusive DMC non-game discussion thread

im really sorry i switched off kings basketball about a week and abit ago.... is he deffo going???

Nobody knows. This is the time of year, however, when trade talks start to heat up and DMC is gonna be right in the middle of them because of all the spotlight he's been getting from the media.

We could only hope they want to flip us Monroe for Cousins. Monroe has been better than Cousins since he stepped into the NBA and doesn't come with any off the court issues.

Limited upside, as they are realizing this year. There are reasoins why top title winning franchsies across the league are all trying to steal Cuz from the rubes.

Your ignorance is getting tiresome. Why don't you go and send some letters off to the GMs with fistfuls of rings in Boston and Detroit and ask them how they could possibly chase Cousins. People in the know, know.

Lol. You're hilarious. Thanks for the good laughs!

So you don't find it odd that of the teams that appear to have interest in our malcontent, over-rated team killer Cuz mostly happen to be some of the best in the league?

Boston is .500 and Detroit is worse than we are. Hardly "some of the best" in the league

yeah, so is this guy:

Yes, but those organizations have been significantly better than us for a long time. It's beginning to look like there was a lot of luck in the assembly of those early 2000s Kings teams. We were bad for a long time, were very good for a short time, and are now trailing back into being perennially bad. That speaks to organizational problems.

When the organizations reportedly interested in your guy include San Antonio, Miami, Boston and Detroit that says something.

Miami? That would be an outrageously good team although any such trade would have to include Bosh. Still, they would come out ahead.

You also don't know what to give up for him. I don't think that Boston is looking for Cuz to be their franchise player.

Sure they are. Or rather, they are looking for him to potentially be. Same as any other team going into a rebuild, including us. This is how rebuilds typically go. The whole point is to try to accumulate as many MIGHT be star talent kids as you can. Then wait for one to pop, then build around him. We'd be utter fools to deal with them, since that's the same position we are in.

It is all about risk though. They aren't looking for someone to carry the team now, they have Rondo (and will have him for a long time) Pierce, and Garnett. Cousins would be a great addition to that nucleus.

Of course.

I find it amazing how our two budding stars get so much grief for the holes in their games and rarely any credit for the skills they have. It's an odd phenomena. We seem to expect, well I'm not sure what we expect. These guys are babies in NBA years. Maybe in 5 years Cousins will be better around the rim although a lot of his trouble is he has very little hops. Some day Tyreke may have a deadly jump shot and he seems on the way. Maybe neither will be the one you build a franchise around but we won't know unless we keep them. How many players have been the cornerstone of a franchise before age 25? Not many in the history of the NBA.

Considering this franchise in its Sacramento incarnation has sucked 20 out of the 27 years, and I mean SUCKED, why are we so picky? Is being lousy the way we want to be?

Any team looking to trade for Cousins better have a big time veteran star player who can get Cousins respect and attention. I don't think this is something the guy can work out on his own. I would mention that the same thing could work if the Kings obtained one, but I just ate dinner and it's not a good idea to actually roll on the floor laughing on a full stomach.

I think that time will answer the dilemma. If Demarcus continues to behave like an over-indulged adolescent without elevating his game, it will become more and more apparent that he would fit better somewhere else. I think all Kings fans have their breaking point somewhere. On the other hand, with time he may become more emotionally intelligent, a team leader and elevate his game. If this happens I think that we will all (or mostly) agree that he is a worthy franchise cornerstone worth maximum money.

It makes perfect sense that the best in the league would give the Kings a call. (And I guess by Kings I mean the Maloofs, as Petrie appears to be a very lame duck). They will be offerring chump change for him, they won't have a long term contract to deal with, and they will be taking the radioactive Cousins on a team filled with a strong inert veteran core and presumably a strong organization. So yeah, if I were them I'd take that miniscule risk. Maybe send the Kings a couple of Garcia's for Cousins, or less. It sure as heck doesn't mean that because of all that that he's necessarily a valuable piece for the Kings going forward.

To me Cousins does not seem to be rebounding as well this season so far as he did last season.

Why would that be? He looks to be in good shape. Last season he was a beast on the board.

Neither of us has any idea what they are offering. My point was that many fans on here are ready to dismiss him because he is such a cancer but winning teams understand value of players like him and how to help them succeed. He could be that piece for the kings but they insist on putting together poorly constructed teams that don't have the right complimentary pieces (including coaching) needed to help young guys like Cousins grow.

Honestly, I don't know how you could try and turn the fact that the leagues best want our best into a negative.

I think some of it actually has to do with him losing weight. He doesnt play above the rim. Instead hes a bully on the ground and without the extra weight its harder for him to bounce opposing bigmen around.

It looks like he lost about 10-15 lbs in fat, but didn't gain an ounce of muscle. With his style of play, he should absolutely be built like a tank since he's basically glued to the ground as is.

I've thought that too actually.

1) the grant and Jerry puppets will always bleat on about how great it is for everyone and their grandmother to lsoe weight, but that's because they were skinnny little runts themselves as youths. For big guys, in any sport, power is as important as being lean. Its better to have both. But forced to choose, you take the power.

2) back during his rookie season there was some article talking about the way Cousins did not do/refused to lift weights. Which is just one of those classically DeMarcus I have the kneejerk stubborneess of a 16yr old things. from the look of his body, its still true. He has alot of natural strength, but nowhere near what he would have if he hit the weights.

3) However, I also think his increasing concern with not getting into foul trouble/into it with the refs, has made him less aggreesive on the offensive boards in particular and the rebounding is just one part of the general decline/discomfort in his overall game thus far. If he were somehow to ever find a groove this season, I would not be surprise to see it bounce back upwards.

I think it is a combination of lack of effort and not getting as many of his own misses as he used to. Last year rebounding was about the only constant from Demarcus. In games he shot poorly and defended poorly (which was more often then not) he would usually rebound like a mother no matter what. The extra fat he has last year didn't help him get rebounds.

You would be surprised what an extra 20lbs will do for you when you are banging bodies and trying to throw people around flailing after a ball.

I wouldn't be. Enes Kanter lost a bunch of weight this year and has been playing really well for the Jazz. The difference is he hit the weights really hard. Demrcus needs to lift weights or he will get pushed around and will have a hard time finishing around the rim.....
