Quite a hypothetical scenario, but still: With the Hawks now having tied up their whole capspace for the rest of eternity, thanks to that idiotic contract they threw Joe Johnson's way, and the new CBA coming, they might not be able to afford an extension for Al Horford. If he didn't accept the qualifying offer next offseason he'd be a restricted free agent and the Kings would have lots of capspace (thanks sammy). Now, if the Kings were willing to let go of Carl Landry and sign Horford to a frontloaded contract, they would have, pretty much instantaneously, the best frontcourt in the league and one with quite a bit of upside to boot. I know, there's a lot of ifs involved, but I'm a big fan of Al Horford's and have been monitoring his contract situation very closely -simply because I think very little of Atlanta's front office and had hoped a situation such as this might occur- because I think that he would be a great fit, especially now, next to DMC. Just think about it:
Horford / Thompson / Whiteside
Cousins / Dalembert (kept on for a reasonable amount of money) / Whiteside
If Cousins pans out (and especially if whiteside also does) that is the strongest rebounding and defensive frontcourt rotation in the league, with two starting bruisers that can play both inside and outside and a couple of high-energy bigs coming off the bench. I mean, there are of course quite a lot of ifs involved here, but I do think that this mightnot be a pipe-dream. Thoughts?
